Now we're getting somewhere..Here are a few underrated songs from a criminally underrated 80's band--The Chameleons
If you overlook the gnr crap, Tommy's actually done a pretty good job post ReplacementsThe first thjng he did was a side project called Bash and Pop. Album is called 'Friday Night Is Killing Me'. It's well worth a listen. And his latest solo album had a few really good tracks on it.Love the Replacements, but Westerberg solo was tough on my ears.
The entire Blind Melon eponymous album is a damn good rock album. Got overexposed on the goofy No Rain song, which is pretty good when you don't hear it 17 times a day on the radio. One of my beginning-to-end perfect albums.
Not sure all these are underrated, but....80'sBig Country - In a Big CountryAldo Nova - FantasyCult - She Sells SanctuaryPrince - Kiss, Let's Go Crazy (Yep, I said it...Prince. Ahead of his time)90's Gandharvas - DowntimeHigh Hopes - Pink Floyd (Really like most of Division Bell)Belly - Gepetto, Feed the TreeJesus & Mary Chain - Between PlanetsWhen in Rome - The Promise (already mentioned but worth another vote)New Order - RegretSisters of Mercy - Vision ThingSo much good stuff from the 90's, can't think of it all now.strangely, the only songs I ever put on a playlist from that album are Tones of Home and Change. No Rain is a good song but like you say, overexposed. I'll give this whole album one more listen to today to see if I'm missing something. The entire Blind Melon eponymous album is a damn good rock album. It's worth more than 1 more listen. I just flipped through the entire album and was reminded again how strong I think it is from start to finish. They had their own sound at the time, as far as mainstream music. Hoon left this earth too soon. I've purchased everything BM created and like most of it.strangely, the only songs I ever put on a playlist from that album are Tones of Home and Change. Vision Thing is one of my favorite albums of all time. None of my friends understand this since I listen to 80s metal 99% of the time. The entire Blind Melon eponymous album is a damn good rock album. Slight Case of Overbombing is fantastic.....includes Vision Thing, More, Temple of Love.Vision Thing is one of my favorite albums of all time. Aldo Nova - Fantasy
Cult - She Sells Sanctuary

And Out Come the Wolves by Rancid is fantastic. Definitely underrated. Not sure Say It Aint So can be classified as underrated. The Blue Album was a huge success. Love the guitar sound/layering on that Blue Album.I think I hit my entire playlist here...Standing outside a Broken Phone Booth With $ In My Hand - Primitive Radio GodsBanditos - The RefreshmentsTrippin Billies - DMBCherub Rock - Smashing PumpkinsRearview Mirror - Pearl JamF.O.D. - Green DayFritz's Corner - Local HWhite Discussion - LiveStarseed - Our Lady PeaceThis Is A Call - Foo FightersLove Rollercoaster - Chili PeppersBlister In The Sun - Violent FemmesTumble In The Rough - Stone Temple PilotsElektra Made Me Blind - EverclearVoices - DistrubedVoodoo - GodsmackOpiate - ToolFreedom - Rage Against The MachineBeautiful Disaster - 311Don't Follow - Alice in ChainsRuby Soho - RancidKick Out The James - Presidents of the United States of AmericaSay It Ain't So - Weezer
Tried to listen to it at some point in early '12. Really didn't hold up as well as I thought. I Was Wrong is about the only song on there I could handle.Price is the man. When you have that much stuff and that many career phases, there's going to be a lot of crap in there. Even The Clash falls prey to it. Drive By Truckers seem to be adhering to this as well. But Prince has so much good work buried in there that he's usually criminally underrated. When I'm fairly regular on a show or working with good friends, I like to save my purple shirt for Friday and listen to the Purple Rain album. Preferably putting I Would Die For You on repeat in the truck, if possible. Always leads my list for most underrated guitar players. The entire Blind Melon eponymous album is a damn good rock album. Out Come the Wolves was pretty huge as well. I think I've heard Ruby Soho at stadiums before. Probably borderline underrated. Both albums make the begining-to-end perfect list. And Out Come the Wolves by Rancid is fantastic. Definitely underrated. Not sure Say It Aint So can be classified as underrated. ... loved Op Ivy, as well ...Rancid did some solid work. Great old school '76 feel to their stuff. And any band that has a song about a bull ring racetrack ("Golden Gate Fields") is aces in my book.Out Come the Wolves was pretty huge as well. I think I've heard Ruby Soho at stadiums before. I put them and also Black Crowes' Southern Harmony and Music Companion (another entry, perhaps) on the car-pod for some good old guitar oriented rock a few weeks ago. Remedy is by far my favorite BC tune and one of my favorite rock songs period. But that album may have had more success than I am remembering.strangely, the only songs I ever put on a playlist from that album are Tones of Home and Change. one time through again and its better than I remember. I'll keep it in heavy rotation in my office for the next couple of weeks.on a side note, I also found that I have '3 Is A Magic Number' by Blind Melon from a Schoolhouse Rocks album. I had forgotten all about it. its a must have for any Blind Melon fanI put them and also Black Crowes' Southern Harmony and Music Companion (another entry, perhaps) on the car-pod for some good old guitar oriented rock a few weeks ago. Talking Heads - Born Under Punches

Absolutely love both of these songs. My favorites by each groupSplit Enz - I Got You (aka per Koya: Sometimes I get Frightened)Police - So Lonely (re-released in '80 after initially in '78)
'74-75 The Connells

both Planet P albums from the 80's are pretty enjoyable"Why Me" - Planet P Project
Nice. Alison Moyet's voice is awesome. I like both of Yaz's albums.Yazoo - Midnight
Might be in the top ten of my favorite bands of all time. Soup has some good songs on it as well (Mouthful of Cavities, Toes Across the Floor). Nico has some different versions of some of their songs as well as a couple of covers. They actually got a different singer a few years ago and still play shows from time to time, but just not the same at all without Shannon Hoon.one time through again and its better than I remember. Truly great voice. Her solo stuff is not as good as the Yaz albums but there are a couple nice tunes here and there.'JuniorNB said:Nice. Alison Moyet's voice is awesome. I like both of Yaz's albums.Yazoo - Midnight
Thought you might like a live version of the songI love to listen to the 10,000 Maniacs album "In My Tribe" oftenI was just reminded of how much I really do like These Are Days by 10k Maniacs. One of my favorite 80's albums ... winner from start to finish. Best work Natalie
ever did, and their finest hour, for sure
"Don't Talk", "Hey Jack Kerouac" and "The Painted Desert" all belong up in this discussion.
Big fan.Didn't read the thread, but I always thought
Wasn't that their biggest hit?ETA: Their biggest US hit. There are some cool arrangements/songs on In My Tribe. Those mentioned, and especially Like the Weather.Didn't read the thread, but I always thought
Yes but it seemed to come and go pretty quickly.Didn't read the thread, but I always thought
I preferred " Don't Forget To Dance" ... and I do recall " Come Dancing" vid getting a very heavy spin on both MTV, and NBC's Friday Night videos. While we are on " dance" here, and with the Tina Turner mention a few posts back ... " Private Dancer" is one of my top '80's tracks. I think it blows the top off of anything she did during her big comeback.Didn't read the thread, but I always thought
Destroyer, Do It Again and Living on a Thin Line also great '80s Kinks songs.Didn't read the thread, but I always thought
damn mobile can't access link ... look forward to checking it later ... grazieI love to listen to the 10,000 Maniacs album "In My Tribe" oftenI was just reminded of how much I really do like These Are Days by 10k Maniacs. One of my favorite 80's albums ... winner from start to finish. "Destroyer" was all kinda face ripping goodness ..( and considering my party drug of choice during the decade .. quite approps for lining 'em up)Didn't read the thread, but I always thought
It's got that big 80's Phil Collins sound going for sure. Rest of the album is not bad either, not sure what they tried as the 2nd single off it.I always dug
