Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters
Not sure there has been an album released in the last 15 years I have to more than Ghosts of the Great Highway.

And PJ Harvey. She is a goddess among princesses. You SOB. You left out Neko Case.
It's amazing that Rolling Stone always has the worst lists.JerseyToughGuys said:
If you like Kozelek, try Mark Lanegan, specifically 'Bubblegum' or 'Field Songs' but the majority of his catalog is amazing. He has a low, rough voice that works so well, and his writing is damn good. Fans of QOTSA will know who he is, as he's been on a few of their albums as well. He originally brought together the Screaming Trees in the '90's. They were a minor part of the Seattle grunge movement. Another Seattle native, Damien Jurado, writes beautiful melodies with lyrics that are spot on.
You SOB. You left out Neko Case.
Well, I wasn't going to list every female band or artist. And PJ Harvey. She is a goddess among princesses.
Me either. But that was all Sam Taylor's influence. They've distanced themselves from over the last 20 years or so but that rep still follows them. Not a fan of the religious leanings, but LOVE their sound. Gretchen and FHL were in heavy rotation for me in HS.
Baby Blue is such a great song.Badfinger - never has the music industry destroyed a band poised for greatness in a more devastating way.
Eh, I think both of these get just the right amount of praise.Replacements
Wilco
Day After Day is one of the best 70's tunes.Badfinger - never has the music industry destroyed a band poised for greatness in a more devastating way.
Hey, can we get your thoughts on every one of the bands listed in this thread? TIA.Eh, I think both of these get just the right amount of praise.
Sure.Hey, can we get your thoughts on every one of the bands listed in this thread? TIA.
The Osmands are pretty greatFor 40+ years, there's been no doubt in my mind who the greatest American rock band of all time - hits, anthems, dominated the scene, crossed genres, classic songwriting, immense chops - is but, unless you knew it was me suggesting, it would take 4-5 pgs before they were guessed. even tho their driving force has been dead since the 70s, I'd call that underrated
A couple current bands:
Glass Animals
Tame Impala
(oh and before Tanner asks: Yes, I'm a 12 year old girl.)
Tame Impala is decent.Came here to post this - They're fantastic. Not "unknown" by any means, but one of my favorite bands.Henry Ford said:The Script
I like Wilco, but let's face it, out of their whole catalog, they've had one amazing album, a couple of good ones, and the rest are very meh. Their fans can also be insufferable. They act like Wilco is the second coming of the Dead.Eh, I think both of these get just the right amount of praise.
Dinosaur Jr
At the very least because J. Mascis is one of the most underrated guitarists ever.
higher rating?ok... they're massive, and probably in most people's over-rated category. and for music snobby fans, they've pretty much circled around to being universally loathed. so I'm going to say, U2. I consider their early catalog to be soooo good, that IMO, this loathing and over-rating business is overlooking and underrating all of that amazing early stuff (and the very occasional recent single) because people can't stand to even see Bono any more.
I think U2 has stayed in the forefront of the public consciousness longer.higher rating?
U2
or
Tom Petty
J Mascis got pissed at me at a show once for having the temerity to look at both him and Lou Barlow in succession.Dinosaur Jr

Agreed. Going to the Joshua Tree tour this week in New Orleans, and they're practically giving away tickets. Nosebleed seats on Stubhub for $10.ok... they're massive, and probably in most people's over-rated category. and for music snobby fans, they've pretty much circled around to being universally loathed. so I'm going to say, U2. Beck is fantastic. Surprised he is stuck opening, but dems the times.Agreed. Going to the Joshua Tree tour this week in New Orleans, and they're practically giving away tickets. Nosebleed seats on Stubhub for $10.
Edit: and that's with Beck opening.
Apparently in Indy a couple days ago it was 2 hours of Beck, 2 hours of U2Beck is fantastic. Surprised he is stuck opening, but dems the times.
ah, that's better. Beck is fantastic live.Apparently in Indy a couple days ago it was 2 hours of Beck, 2 hours of U2
Beck is sort of a boring dirge that critics expect you to like, but you really hate.Beck is fantastic. Surprised he is stuck opening, but dems the times.
have you seen him live?Beck is sort of a boring dirge that critics expect you to like, but you really hate.
And I have generally a lot of respect for pop music critics; it's just that Beck is boring.
I'm going to pull an OrtontoOlsen and comment on comments. The Kinks.
Had a similar situation with Grant Hart once. Man, he was a pompous ###. ####ty show too. His guitar player bailed on him before the show and he had improvise. The set sucked, but he kept yelling at people for talking while they were playing. I think he ended up playing to a crowd of about 20 people by the time he was done.J Mascis got pissed at me at a show once for having the temerity to look at both him and Lou Barlow in succession.
True story. He leaned into the mic and said "well, somebody has a problem."
Huh. Yeah, J, it's you.
