Urban Meyer - Free Agent (1 Viewer)

I'd like to point out that while Jax Jags are saying their legal counsel was ready to talk to Josh Lambo, if that's true then he definitely reported that Meyer kicked him and I don't think Lambo or any PK in the NFL would lie or report it if it weren't true, He has nothing to gain and in fact could potentially jeopardize a future contract from another team.

This just looks worse and worse, leaks every where and now Lambo blows open the front door and says he doesn't need to hide and perhaps he still has friends within the organization and was leaking some of this stuff out to help his former teammates that feel trapped.

I applaud Lambo coming forward and not waiting 3 more years one day when he is being interviewed and tells some wild story about Meyer, this was a perfect time to drop it when the heat is all over this guy. Only add more fuel to an out of control fire in that locker room.

Also, one unsubstantiated rumor is that the leaker is GM Trent Baalke. As in, get this guy out of here so I can deny involvement.

It’s funny that there are half a dozen stories and they are all false.  Kind of like when he was caught grinding with that woman.  He denied it until the video came out.  Dude is a complete liar and this won’t be the last thing to come out.  There’s blood in the water and people want to take him down because he’s a bad guy.

Remember when Montreal sent their lousy owner to Miami which sent that owner to Boston...WFT need to send Snyder to Jax...Khan can come down to Miami, couldn't do any worse than Ross, and then Ross can go take over the WFT and name them after his alma mater, that's right folks it's the Washington Wolverines, Hugh Jackman will immediately become a minority owner in the franchise.

Jags fans must be praying that Meyer follows the example of every other person associated with the NFL this week and gets Covid. "Are you sure you're OK, Urban? You still look a little pale. Why don't you continue quarantining for a few more weeks, just to be safe."

As a WFT fan I take that deal every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Kind of crazy to fire a coach on a Wednesday night when you have a game on Sunday. Makes me wonder if yet one more shoe is about to drop. But more likely they just reached a point where there was no point in continuing.

Is it? What exactly was he contributing that an interim couldn't pick up the slack of (and probably even do better) in a few days time?

:lmao:  this was so easy to see from the beginning. Guy has no business being around football players. The college game is such a suspect power structure I can barely watch it knowing who profits. It’s a joke.

pay them their gosh darn money.

Oh yeah, smart guy? Well who's going to monitor Andre Cisco's defensive snaps this weekend with Meyer gone?

My point was usually mid-season firings take place on a Monday. Unusual for it to happen on a Wednesday night, and there could be a reason for the timing. But like I said, it was probably just that the situation had become untenable.

Time to talk to his college players.

At this point, I think Meyer's only way to save himself is by throwing a Molotov cocktail. As Duvall County's most famous wise man once said, anytime you have a problem, you throw a Molotov cocktail and boom, right away you have a different problem.
what’s that from? The Good Place?

There's a long list of guys that were simply incompetent with a dash of buffoonery as head coaches. You know, the Mike Tice type.

But in discussing guys who did it with a healthy dose of ###-holery there are two names at the top of the list with Urban joining Bobby Petrino.

The article I just read on all the controversies during his tenure is something you’d expect to happen over like, 8 years.

Incredible hire, will never be topped.

Improves it. Drastically.
How? The guy that is married to him just left the altar with divorce papers in hand. I don’t see how a guy that is noted for problems running between the tackles benefits from a new, neutral coaching staff with James Robinson there, especially coming straight off of a Lisfranc injury.

They wanted to go the other direction. Wayne Fontes is on his way for the press conference tomorrow morning.

Okay. If you didn't like Etienne before, you won't like him now.

Sad thing is, casual observers of this like MoP, Andy, Capella, and I knew this was a disaster waiting to happen. Heck, I knew he was going to draft a running back in the first round with his second pick. You just knew it. This guy couldn't help himself. How on earth does a guy running a NFL franchise that made his money in business not know a swindle when he sees it?

A bad idea. A disaster. So many heads had to be in the sand while vetting this hire that it's almost some sort of professional malfeasance.

This guy had so many reas0ns why he would just be a l0ser in the pro ranks. It's not like they hired a guy with the temperament for this. This guy was complaining about free agency and NFL protocol on Day One. His first acts as head coach were to complain about tampering.

This guy was brutal. MoP had this dialed from the beginning.

No, I had and would have drafted Etienne in dynasty in the 3-5 range. I picked Chase in one league where I traded 1.4 and 2.4 for 1.01 and took Harris in a different league with 1.02 from a dispersal draft. Those guys I took ahead of him, and he went four in a league where I owned five. I just don't see how this helps him when his biggest backer and the guy with the most professional skin in the game isn't there anymore and he has deficiencies, according to some like Waldman.

I think he's an exceptional athlete. I just think his situation got a whole lot more cloudy.

IMO, it's simple. If you believe he's talented then that will come through when he gets what will assuredly be a better coach.

Just because Meyer was a bad coach doesn't mean he got the talent wrong.

I think my main concern is that it seems he needs experience, seasoning, and to learn a few things about running in the pro game and I'm a little skeptical that a coach is going to give a running back that sort of adjustment period when he has Robinson, who obviously is seasoned.

Just because Meyer was a bad coach doesn't mean he got the talent wrong.
That's true, but I also didn't mean to say nor imply that just because he was a bad coach that he evaluated talent wrong.

And even if I were to stick with the contention that Meyer picked him a little too highly in the draft for Jacksonville's needs, Etienne still might be an excellent talent deserving of a starting role.

I really didn't address either issue, nor imply it. I simply wondered what happened when Etienne's biggest backer and betrothed is gone.

But I take your points. If the talent is there, it'll shine. If you believe in it, stick with it. Both points are sound.

I'm really just trying to spark discussion.

I’m sure there are others out there but has there been a bigger flame out coach hire? Urban has to have vaulted to a pretty high spot on that list.

As Jags fans, we’re used to losing and being the butt of jokes. It comes with the territory in NE FLA

But Turban made me actually dislike my own team and no longer care.

FTG.

Lucky #13: Urban Meyer joins fellow college coaches Lou Holtz and Bobby Petrino in not making it through their first NFL seasons. Holtz of the Jets and Petrino (Falcons) were also gone after 13 games. 😞

Lou Holtz believed that professionals should be singing fight songs in the locker room.

These guys. You can't make them up.

This is my second experience watching a fan base fire a coach the day he was hired. Steve Spurrier was the same.

I never understood the venom for Meyer in the spring. The guy won how many games before he took the job?

Spurrier was absurd. He's never coached at the professional level, umm he did in the USFL. He will never...NFL teams have switched and still use his 3 WR sets. It was a two back set before him.

Y'all were angry Tebow- one of the nicest guys ever- was a camp body.

Bevell said he pulled Robinson, Meyer says he doesn't micromanage and omg y'all still blame Meyer.

We all knew the Jags would stink but this whole omg he didn't win....that's something else.

My favorite is the story of a private meeting between he and his staff where he called the staff of a team with a losing record, losers. Y'all did but he's ridiculous for doing so? There are 10k coach meetings every year and zero info gets out but this one is leaked? Oh and how dare he say whoever leaked it will be fired.

The guy wasn't awesome and I'm not saying he should be this or that and I'm sure not his supporter but...really people? Really?

Y'all got so away from football. Where's the discussion about their free agency and draft and how it's turned out? How is Lawrence doing? Do they have a defense? Ya can't tell by discussions this year.

This sooo odd.

So do the Jags hire another former Bills coach? Are we forgetting they were a decent team and blew it up? They were the worst team in football last year and I'd bet a ton of money this off-season is blaming Urban for their demise.

I don't wonder why Stoops hasn't coached in the NFL anymore
