Wholeheartedly agree and with very few exceptions does it work out.NFL teams have to stop hiring these college coaches. I am as big of a college fan as anybody but the reality is it’s the minors compared to the NFL and being successful there doesn’t translate. It’s not the same game. To be great in college you need to out-recruit everybody and then deploy your superior talent advantage to beat the likes of Northwestern etc. Only in the biggest games does coaching matter and usually the opposing staff isn’t very good either.
With a few limited exceptions a college coach moving up doesn’t work out and is usually a total abomination. Good idea to try and sell tickets but winning sells more.

True. Pete Carroll was a successful hire from the college ranks as well despite recent struggles.Kingsbury is doing ok.
I feel like young, innovative college coaches have a chance to be good NFL coaches. Guys like Petrino and Meyer that have spent years winning by having more talent and are used to being able to intimidate their players are going to have a very hard time adjusting.Insein said:Kingsbury is doing ok.
Carroll was the Patriots head coach for multiple years before he went to college and then back. And a DC with the Jets I think before that.Drake Hater said:True. Pete Carroll was a successful hire from the college ranks as well despite recent struggles.
Going back I can think of Jimmy Johnson, Bobby Ross, Tom Coughlin and Jim Harbaugh as others that worked out well to varying degrees. There might be others, but success is few and far between for coaches who make that jump - there are way more failures than success stories. In addition to Meyer, Rhule is struggling and probably won't last long either.

That’s actual footage of Shad Kahn meeting with his (American) Football Advisory Board this morning.
But just to prove he wasn't totally clueless about his player, Meyer said he was a big fan of "The Thong Song".#Jaguars HC Urban Meyer was asked about Andre Cisco playing more (again). He said “Cisco is playing a little bit more, I believe, I don’t have his numbers in front of me”
Cisco played 0 defensive snaps yesterday.

He is literally trying to get fired.
Let's see if he out-Costanza's Costanza.I thought the same thing following the lap massage incident. Too proud to quit... probably massive financial impacts of doing so anyway... so try to get fired.
Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing is frowned upon... you know, cause I've coached a lot of teams...Let's see if he out-Costanza's Costanza.
Stephen A. Smith has a strong opinion on this.
Reporter: Coach, your offensive line is just not getting it done. They’re getting their ### kicked every single week.He is literally trying to get fired.
crazy...as if he has NOTHING to do with it. take some responsibility, stand up for your players, don't answer the question but to throw your players under the bus and think they're now going to play for you is nuts. Maybe he's trying to get fired and he's a genius.Reporter: Coach, your offensive line is just not getting it done. They’re getting their ### kicked every single week.
Meyer: (barely audible) Yep
Turns to the opposite side of the room to field the next Q.
It’s bizarro world down there.

They announced a different new head coach a few days ago manChip Kelly rumored to go back to Oregon from UCLA. Perfect spot for Meyer to get Eustachey'd.
"I want to do the right thing for the team. I want to do the right thing for the city," Khan said. "That, to me, is way more important than just acting helter-skelter on emotion. I think we have a history of really looking at the facts and then really doing the right thing."It starts at the top.
It is perhaps worth noting Shad Khan has had 7 managers in the 8 years he has owned Fulham FC of the Premier League."I want to do the right thing for the team. I want to do the right thing for the city," Khan said. "That, to me, is way more important than just acting helter-skelter on emotion. I think we have a history of really looking at the facts and then really doing the right thing."
Is Khan on any medication we should be aware of?
agreed. From a football POV the situation is beyond toxic in every way and the fact he's not already gone says it all. At this point, Meyer is still there strictly for financial reasons as the owner likely doesn't want to payout on his huge mistake. Unfortunately, the players and fans have to live with the obvious mistake until it gets worse and/or the owner bites the bullet. It starts at the top.
The comedy in this ongoing saga is fantastic. I almost don't want him to be fired.
You nailed it, Meyer took advantage of the owner and got him to open the checkbook...agreed. I think losing his strength and conditioning coach, a real character guy in the locker room, really broke Meyer's spirit.Team hasn't been the same since they lost Tim Tebow for the season. I don't think Meyer ever got over that.
The players need to pull a post Jimmy Johnson Dallas - where they basically ignored the stooge Jerry Jones put in as head coach and coached themselves. Lawrence can do it.You nailed it, Meyer took advantage of the owner and got him to open the checkbook...
-I posted in the OP in the 2nd Meyer thread that he was making $12Million and it was a 6-7 year deal they had in place, could be a get out clause but I have to imagine at a minimum it's gonna cost Khan $25M+ to get out from under this and it might be closer to like $40M-$50M, I heard one guy say $7M yesterday on the TV but he was totally guessing and the other guy says, OK let's just assume that but they are way short of the number.
College Coaches are getting $10M per year so it's not that far fetched that Meyer gets 8 figures a year.
Khan is choking on his own aspirations right now and someone is going to need to apply the Heimlich for him, maybe the GM can step up and do the right thing, fire the coach and live with whatever Khan decides to do to you but there is no backbone in this organization from top to bottom right now, it's sad for the players who have to put up with this.
Ex-Jaguars K Josh Lambo has alleged he was kicked by coach Urban Meyer before being released in October.
Lambo says the incident occurred after he missed kicks in each of his first two preseason appearances. “I’m in a lunge position. Left leg forward, right leg back,” Lambo said. “(Meyer), while I’m in that stretch position, comes up to me and says, ‘Hey (expletive), make your (expletive) kicks!’ And kicks me in the leg.” Lambo said he implored the former college coach to never "(expletive) kick me again!’" Meyer's response was allegedly "‘I’m the head ball coach, I’ll kick you whenever the (expletive) I want.’" Meyer, naturally, has denied the allegation. “Josh’s characterization of me and this incident is completely inaccurate, and there are eyewitnesses to refute his account,” Meyer said. “(GM) Trent (Baalke) and I met with him on multiple occasions to encourage his performance, and this was never brought up. I was fully supportive of Josh during his time with the team and wish him nothing but the best.” Lambo also said he has witnesses, but that he did not want to involve them. We see no reason for Lambo to make the story up. No longer allowed to behave like a tyrant with unpaid college players, Meyer appears comically out of his depth in a league where he is coaching millionaire grown men.

If sales start out terribly would that give khan an excuse to finally stick a fork in him? Even if he gave Meyer a six figure salary? The ship has sailed as far as the fans — just as season-ticket sales kick off next week.
I'm lazy but I finally googled where I came up with this 8 figure salary, I'm sure you meant a lot more than $100,000 a year.If sales start out terribly would that give khan an excuse to finally stick a fork in him? Even if he gave Meyer a six figure salary?
Jags guys..... I feel like Kahn wants a winning team but has no idea WTF he's doing. He's treating the team like a MLB minor league team..... Is this an accurate assessment from my outsider view?

Mike Florio is a pretty good authority on tidbits and rumors $12M per yer to come out of retirement.
If it's a 5 year deal guaranteed, we're talking $60M here although i would imagine there is language in the contract that would allow for some leeway but I will also say that HC Brian Flores(Meyer was hanging out with Ross when he wasn't letting Khan wine n dine him) got a 5 year fully guaranteed deal a couple seasons back and so it's possible Meyer's is pretty much lock, stock and barrel especially for a pathetic franchise and owner, sorry Jags fans, Miami has one of them too.
