Ream's start today for Fulham will be his 53rd Premier League game, passing the great Joe-Max Moore for 16th-most by a U.S. international

Silva: "I don't like mentioning individual players but I have to mention Tim Ream. 34 years old, he's probably been our best CB so far. And with the problems that we had on our left side without Robinson or Kurzawa, I didn't have doubts to adapt him there."

something like this I would guess.....
General thoughts: I won't be surprised if you are right and think you are prediciting, not sharing your preferred lineup. This should be a test run for Qatar and I think anything short of that is wasting time.

FB - I think it would be a total waste to start Yedlin. He is a vet and I get why he was called (sort of) but he has no business playing for us given his form. I'd guess we see Vines start at least one game and I'd like to see Scally get the other start.

CB - I hope it's Zimm/Richards for both games. I know Berhalter really likes Long but he hasn't been great and although Richards hasn't been playing much, I think he gives us a much better shot in the desert

Mids - I think he'll probably split with Luca starting one game and Aaronson the other. This is an important question because if for any reason we need to start another 8, we really need to know what our best option is. Luca not playing is not helping clarify matters

Wings - I'll be mildly surprised if Gio doesn't start. I can see Aaronson getting a start here too but, provided healthy, I think Gio has to be starting given how little game time he's had with the group

Just about everyone is going to play but we do need to play 60 minutes or so with our "best" to build fluidity IMO. That said, it won't surprise me if Berhalter uses one of these games with that 343 with something like Cannon-Zimm-Richards, Dest-Adams-McKennie-Aaronson, Gio-Jesus-Pulisic. Weirdly given no Musah or Antonee, it actually is pretty efficient at getting our best players out there.

So Johnathan Gomez accepted our call for the U20 roster for the Revelations Cup which is pretty big news.

We're going to be playing against Mexico amongst others. It's in no way cap tying unlike the Olympic qualifying but this is a far better squad. Basically all the best players from that tourney plus Gomez, Che, Paredes, Neal, and Wiley but SJ did not release Cowell and Tsakiris.

On a really bad note, Canada once again called Luca Koleosho from Espanol. He's 17 and getting spare minutes for them already. He's US born but eligible for Canada as well. He was called over the summer but did not play so he has not yet been cap tied. This is their WC warm up camp though so it's entirely possible they plan to bring him to the WC.

It's great that the team that outplayed us in qualifying can find a roster spot for an unproven 17 year old but we can't find room for a vet that's been the best defender on a club that's 6th in the EPL.
To be fair, they didn't find a spot because they didn't limit themselves.

They called more than 26 players

“We’ll be looking to get him minutes,” Herdman stated. “If he continues to push in training and he can show what I've seen in his preseason, particularly for Espanyol and his last game that he got minutes in, he'll start to grow into that Tier 1 player and that's exciting for Canada.”

yes predicting what GGG will do, not what I would do.

But now that GGG was quoted about Vines, I think there is a good chance Vines start's on the left and Dest on the right.

I am no fan of Long either. I fear that GGG is very much though and with Richards not yet grabbing a starting job, I think Long has to have a really bad camp to not be the starter in Qatar. I hope I am wrong about how GGG is thinking.

Joe Scally excellent first half. Got some “oooh”s from the crowd on a pass or two, defending his heart out, getting a foot on every ball that comes his way
Didn't watch the game but this was his highest Sofascore of the season at 7.2 bringing him up to 6.81 on the season.

For some comps, last season he had 6.66 for the season and another Bundesliga player we are familier with, Chris Richards was 6.79. 6.8 or so is about average for the position in the league. Not a star, but a solid Bundesliga defender.

Did some quick checks on other defenders in this camp to see form. I don't get a chance to see many of these guys so it's interesting even if not scientific.

Aaron Long grades out as a pretty average MLS defender at 6.81
Yedlin below average at 6.68. The last above average season he had was 15/16 but to be fair to him, he's played most of that in the EPL so high bar
Zimmerman a top MLS defender at 7.12
CCV a top Scottish defender at 7.20
Vines at 6.99 in Belgium
Cannon at 6.63 in Portugal :oldunsure:
Dest not really fair to eval

A couple not in camp
John Brooks rated 6.92 last year in the Bundes
Tim Ream grades at 7.01 so far this season for Fulham
Mark McKenzie quietly putting together a good season at Genk with 7.18
EPB with 6.78 for Troyes
Sands with 6.90 for Rangers
John Tolkin is on 7.08 in MLS

Not sure why so many have been so quick to write him off. He's really flashed, IMO, at times, and still only 23. He's got all the tools to be quality.

It's pretty cool how many of our players are hitting some really good form right now.

There are positives and negatives to go around. Pulisic still has a complete offensive donut on the year (on low minutes to be fair to him), Weah has still not played even a minute and Gio is still being treated as bubble wrap boy. Steffen may have even played himself off the roster.

call in Mihailovic as a replacement
Hoping to see Williamson again.

Looks like Johnny Cardoso is coming into camp.

Somebody here said they'd heard he's playing well. Hope so... He was so far of the game previously, seems a strange choice given the other options like djorgi.
Djordje definitely should be called.

But Johnny has been a top performer in Brazil this season. He's solidified himself as the every day starter for Internacional having started the last 6 matches picking up 2 goals and 1 assist in that period (and his club has gone 4-1-1). They are up to 2nd in Serie A and he's by far the youngest player in their first XI.

It's easy to not rate the Brazilian league because we don't see them but it's probably on par with Portugal/Netherlands and a step up from MLS. 538 ranks Internacional #87 (4th highest Brazilian club) just above Fulham who is #88 in world team rankings. Philly is the top MLS side at #95. So if a 20-year old 6/8 was starting for Fulham.....

I don't have a problem with him being called but like you think he was pretty dreadful in the past. And Djordje is doing it week in and week out for a while now. He's earned a shot.
I didn't watch a ton of Brazil league going back a year, but I watched enough. It's below those leagues you mentioned. MLS? Tough to qualify. Brazil has high ball skill level players...equal to probably anywhere, and certainly above MLS by a good bit. But the games I was watching were pretry consistently wide open, spread out affairs where being compact and keeping solid team shape were waaay behind any league I've seen, including MLS. Defending as a team also null. So I'm not really sure how that kind of league translates for a 6/8.

hmm, could GGG be thinking Vines will be starting?

==========================

Haven't watched him at all..curious if anybody has since he went over and has some Intel. But I follow him on that US site, and he's starting and getting good 7ish ratings as a true LB. I liked him fine when he was domestic...a capable 3rd or even 2nd LB if needed..so given what appears to be a rise in his game- I'll take it. Looking forward to seeing what he can do

really nice goal for Pefok today

Luckily the US is so stocked at forward we don’t need his skill set
Man... pepi, pre and haji all seem to play a somewhat similar game. Not true target 9s, but able to get involved off the ball and score in different fox in the box ways.

So I think you have to go with Pepis perfect scoring record over the last game and that he's alphabetically in the middle. You know, instead of his performance over the last year or even 6 months.

Joel Sonora went over to Portugal? I think it was Allan who was the higher rated player last year?

And despite the happy reports from preseason, I havent seen Owen dressing yet for Brugge. Does anybody know anything more?

Steffen may have even played himself off the roster.
Speaking of Steffen, there was some World Cup preview on TV Friday night, and they were discussing the US so I kept it on for a few minutes. Then they talked about the US being "one of the younger teams", talked about young stars and the midfield without even mentioning McKennie, and followed it with a segment on Steffen continuing the long legacy of excellent US goalies. At that point I turned the thing off. It's a shame, because I would have liked to watch previews of some of the other countries, but the US segment was so bad that I assumed I wouldn't learn anything at all from the program.

Haven't watched him this season, but I said it at the end of last season- epb was looking quite good as a regular starter for his club. And sounds like Makenzie is now too.

we know the feeling Matt :)

"Must be nice. I'm changing diapers and he's out golfing and getting food with Tyler [Adams]. Must be nice" - Matt Turner to Brenden Aaronson

I think we can see a possible group of starters in this clip from practice. I think the team in the solid blue jerseys are going to start.

I can see, in order of the clip, Luca, Long, Vines, Adams, Jesus, Pulisic, Zimm, I think Cannon (not sure on who is behind Pepi when he scored), and Turner.

That is 9 players. Weston and Aaronson (who may be in the clip but I did not see them) would round out the 11.

Nice defending by Vines.

I agree at 24 writing your memoir and including stuff like this seems like a bad idea. Dad giving him some poor life advice again?

I think this is pretty solid evidence that he was expecting to be allowed to leave this summer. The content of this book was likely finished in early summer given the normal editing time for such things. I think it's pretty obvious this was a "look back at my time at Chelsea" situation.

As for writing a book now? Just likely taking advantage of the WC and expected US interest boost it will have.

Rooney wrote a book at 21. Lampard wrote one at 30? It just seems less wise now because Twitter can take a passage out of context and 100 million people see it.

U.S U-20 3-1 Peru - FT - a weak start is followed by an excellent 2nd half - Varas made some important adjustments - goals by Gutierrez, Craig, Luna - the DOOP 4 continue to make big differences. Craig goal, Sullivan assist. Paxten sharp off bench - Mexico next: Saturday 7pm EST

We didn't start Sullivan or Paxten and the three up front were kinda MIA.

I didn't always know which player was which but Gomez was both the best and worst player. He's terrific going forward and the US attack went down the left all game, but especially in the 2h. He really struggles tracking runners, often got muscled out, and seemed disjointed working with the other defenders. Other than him and Paxten (who is just a class above), no one really stood out to me.

We seemed to really struggle in the midfield in the 1h with Pukstas, McGlynn, Alvarado. The 2h we switched to Edelman, Luna, Alvarado and absolutely bossed it. Everything just started happening faster.

Gregg Berhalter says Aaron Long and Walker Zimmerman will partner in central defense vs Japan. #usmnt

I feel bad saying this but I hope Long has a nightmare of game. The few times I’ve seen him this year he’s been pedestrian at best. I don’t want him anywhere near the pitch in November.
I know GGG is dealing with injuries but not loving this CB combo.

this is something I deal with constantly. Like you, I don't really want Long playing but I struggle with the fear of some serious karma in hoping a player fails because I fear the next guy up may make me regret it.
