One of the most baffling things I've seen. He would really shine, had great numbers, then went to Leeds and just a complete and utter disaster that carried over to USMNT. It HAS to be a confidence thing. The skills were there.
He's just an easy grader. Subtract two across the board, except for Turner, and you're close for the starters. No idea which game he watched with these player ratings from last night
I think you read the comment wrong. Here is what I saidYeah, when I read your comment about Canada outplaying us I was thinking we'd watched different games. .
wow, some of those are shocking....
I agree.Maybe.
But taking one too many steps up the ladder is a real thing. It's not like stuff that works 100% against lesser players works 80% against top players. It can be more like 20%. The Altidore Theorom.
Kinda like in other sports, maybe Aaronson was good in the PL until there was some tape available on him that other teams could use to scout and learn his tendencies?I agree.Maybe.

The strange thing though is that he went in reverse order. Typically a player comes to a new league, and takes a while to find his feet. Aaronson was the opposite, the first few games he played were quite good. It was very promising. Then he started a steady decent to abysmal.
Maybe once players got used to his herky jerky style they found it significantly easier to defend him. He clearly lost some confidence on the slide downward.
Weird thing is that some underlying numbers for Aaronson were OK. He was right behind Harrison for tops in chance creation per 90 for Leeds. Admittedly, Harrison wasn't exactly elite himself, but it's not as if Leeds had a bunch of other attacking mids outperforming Aaronson. Part of Aaronson's rating comes from playing a ton of minutes through March or so (until he started getting benched) for just an awful team.Maybe.

Well, that's effing stupid. There is a strange schedule for the semi's.
Since Concacaf scheduled both semi finals in the western part of the country, the US game will be kicking off at 4:30pm on a Wednesday.
I should amend my post to be clearer. That was 4:30pm local time. I hope it doesn't but it may hurt the attendance.Well, that's effing stupid. There is a strange schedule for the semi's.

He talks about this a bit in this mornings interviewTurner has saved/not allowed 14/30 PKs in his career. That's truly insane.

My wife certainly wants to see more of him...why is vazquez not starting?
Look at Jesus in international games vs decent defenses. The guy destroys Caribbean minnows like they are AYSO teams but vanishes if the defense is competent.Maybe.

Would wager a substantial amount that Miazga was in the middle of whatever started it.
I like the guy who dropped the duffel early on. And the very end with the small and kinda old 'security' guy.
I like how the one ref looked like he wanted to blow his whistleI like the guy who dropped the duffel early on. And the very end with the small and kinda old 'security' guy.
Maybe CONCACAF teams need to play in stadiums that have one tunnel to both locker rooms.
One of the taller US players with a reserve shirt on gets shoved right at the start of the scuffle. Almost certainly has to be Miazga.Would wager a substantial amount that Miazga was in the middle of whatever started it.
My favorite part is the guy yelling "I AM SECURITY!" as if that's gonna make a difference.I like how the one ref looked like he wanted to blow his whistleI like the guy who dropped the duffel early on. And the very end with the small and kinda old 'security' guy.

I've long loved his game for this reason. He knows how to take a hard foul without always getting a yellow. And, based on the evidence of the Gold Cup, he's almost certainly still one of our top-6 midfielders.Acosta to the 23 just as the "antivibes" guy
Miazga was on the field at the end of the game. Both starting CB's were subbed out. would he have put on a yellow shirt before going in tunnel? Seems unlikelyOne of the taller US players with a reserve shirt on gets shoved right at the start of the scuffle. Big night. Get the win plus Miles Robinson probably knows about VAR now?

Assistant referee going down in first minute was the sign this game was going to be special
We can complain about quality until we are blue in the face but at the end of the day, Concacaf continually finds ways to entertain.@watke_

This is where the 26 man roster would have helped. Keeping a Concacaf minded specialist on the 26 is so much easier than on the 23.One of the taller US players with a reserve shirt on gets shoved right at the start of the scuffle. There has to be a least a small consideration of adding either Miazga or Acosta to the 23 just as the "antivibes" guy to go in at the end of a match and just piss off the other team. I'd say Miazga is better at that than anyone on the team, but Acosta is pretty good at it too while being a better player, so it kinda equals out there. The only worry would be one of them setting Weston off and him getting choked into another 3 game suspension.
a Concacaf minded specialist

Panama looks a little low but the rest feels right. Even with Jamaica's best roster in maybe ever, it is not really coming together for them. Hopefully they give Mexico a good game.Odds to win the Gold Cup, per two different oddsmakers:
Mexico: 44-46%
USA: 35-36%
Jamaica: 11%
Panama: 7-8%
Zendejas makes me so sad. I was very excited when he committed to the US as I felt (and still feel) that backup winger is one spot where we need the most help. I thought he could do a decent job in that role. From what I've seen, he's NOT even an upgrade there over either Nips or Morris and given those options, I'd choose one of the vets just for their experience.I am so fed up with our wing play outside of Cowell at times that I am trying to talk myself into wondering if we should give Yedlin a shot at right wing. At least he can put some pressure on them speed wise.
Zendejas continues to lead the team in players who are plummetting in their hopes to crack the full roster. The guy was given so many chances.
I thought it said this happened at half time. If not, then my mistake.Miazga was on the field at the end of the game. Vitoria's the one who looks and acts like Sergio Ramos, right?Looks like Miazga is yakking at Vitoria and Vitoria shoves him to set it off.

I would like a 4-4-2 maybe as well but you are going to need your fb's to be extreme high up the field to have any width as those are all central midfielders. Maybe Roldan as the ? since he has some experience at wing.I'd seriously consider switching to a 4-4-2 with Ferreira playing off Vasquez up front, and a midfield of Sands + ?? behind Busio and Mijailovic. Though I'm at a loss who the ?? is to be honest.
As one of the three, I don't think you want Reynolds. He strength is going forward but he will be expected to stay home in this set up.They'd never make this change, but with our current roster, this is what I'm starting with:
................... Ferreira...........Vazquez...............
....Cowell .............................................. Gressel..
...............Busio.......................Mihailovic.................
.............................Sands........................
.Jones................Robinson.................Reynolds
First subs: Yedlin, Tolkin, Roldan, Neal
That's why I listed Yedlin first. Quick hook if he looks as bad defensively. Or just start with Yedlin, but I would be ok to give Reynolds another chance. As one of the three, I don't think you want Reynolds. It is a shame Neal looked so bad because he would have been an obvious. Miazga is dangerous since Panama is almost certainly going to look for a PK.
