US Men's National Team (8 Viewers)

Paxten Aaronson starting for Utrecht! (didn't even know he was on the team) Taylor Booth on the bench.
Paxten played for Vitesse in the second half of last year on loan and then this summer Eintracht extended his contract until 2028 and then loaned him for the full year to Utretch.

Horvath with a goalkeeping day that they create horror stories out of.

Not only did he have the howler, he gave up 5 goals in total, with 0 saves....................

Tillman and Ledezma(!) starting for PSV this morning. Even more surprising...if ESPN is showing it correctly, Ledezma is at right back.
They won 3-1 after going into half 0-1. I didn't watch.

Wow! Ledezma! Totally forgot about him... Great to see, and he went long, only getting subbed in the last group when they had the lead.

On the flip side, Tillman got the hook at halftime... not a great indicator, especially considering they flipped the game with him off the field.

Milan v Torino coming up at 2:45. Very interested to see how CP and hopefully Mussh are used.
Pulisic looks to be at the 10 in the middle. Musah on bench
I watched from the 1st half water cooling break on. Don't know whether it was Torino's tactics crowding the middle or CP and Milan not knowing how to use him in the middle, but he seemed a bit adrift. Looked his best making diagonal runs wide or crashing the box where he had opportunities.

I will say, Torino did a nice job getting numbers back and immediately doubling the dangermen like CP and especially Leao (who should've scored and assisted... CP hit a fantastic feed from inside the box far too close to the GK who saved it.. the goal was gaping for him)

Damn it, lost another one

I’m told that Esmir Bajraktarevic finalized his decision to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina National Team in the last few days. Bajraktarevic, who has one cap with the U.S. Men’s National Team, has made his one-time switch.
Was going to be a pain typing that name out, so probably for the best for us.
I couldn’t get my “ASMR” nickname to gain any traction anyway. Good riddance.

Thumbs up to Chelsea for not mucking this up which they easily could have if they wanted to (y)

Lets officially announce next week and get on with it!

Although I am a little confused as to why Chelsea are looking into the Sponsorship...shouldn't that be US Soccer's responsibility?

Mauricio Pochettino to #USMNT verbally agreed + clear to proceed.

Nothing preventative in Chelsea contract & club insist no money owed to him if takes new job.
#CFC discussing solutions (3rd-party sponsorship etc) to fill salary shortfall

Musah only had 2 assists in 1400+ league minutes last year so getting the assist yesterday was very welcome as a late sub.
He came on late and was very active as Torino was defending deep. Had a poor choice on a a badly taken shot right at the end, when he had lots of guys lined up far post. Took 3 shots in his limited minutes, including one that got blocked and deflected out to a teammate at the top of the box who also shot, leading to Morata deflecting it in for the 1st goal.

We'll see how things look tomorrow. Motta on Swag and Timmy....

Thiago Motta insists that Weston McKennie is a ‘valuable’ player for Juventus, while Timothy Weah is ‘predisposed’ to improve.

McKennie and Weah will be available for Juventus’ Serie A opener against Como on Monday, August 19.

The midfielder had been frozen out of the first team during the pre-season, but he was recently reintroduced after a meeting with the Bianconeri boss.

“McKennie is a valuable player for our needs. Tomorrow, we have 19 players available, and only 11 can play,” Motta said at a press conference on Sunday.

McKennie’s compatriot, Weah, is in an entirely different situation. He was a regular starter during the pre-season and one of the most convincing players.

“Weah can still improve in everything, but he is predisposed to do it,” argued Motta.

“I am not surprised. I knew him when he was very young, and now he is the right age to do well. Surely, he will help the team.”

I feel like this is how it went all preseason last year for Swag as well. Just non-stop them trying to get rid of him, not being able to find a buyer, being forced to keep him, and then him immediately being an important piece of the team out of the gates.

My guess is since they owe him the money if he doesn't take the US job, they're looking to roll it into something from US Soccer whether it be a friendly or some other benefit. They want him to take it, so he's off their books.

As expected, Weah starting, Weston on bench. I do not yet know what position Weah is.
ESPN is showing Weah at RW in a 4-2-3-1
I have it on. Looks like it is indeed RW.
I don't think he will be credited with an assist because of the defensive mistake but he was involved in the goal build up

For those wondering, Weah has already past his league goal total from last year

1258 league minutes last year, no goals and 1 assist. If he gets a kind scorer today, he has 1 goal and 1 assist in the first half of the first game this season :)

But the reality is that he came up through Argentinian football, coming up through the Newell's academy and starting his career there. I'm sure the games away at Boca and River were no cakewalks.
I agree.

A born and bred South American coach is going to be able to adapt to the craziness of CONCACAF far easier than a European coach.

I mean could we be any more cursed?

Weah had arguably the best half of his Italian career and was subbed at half time due to an injury. It looks like he got hurt before he even scored.

:sadbanana:

Following the muscle problems experienced during the game last night, this morning Khephren Thuram and Timothy Weah were subjected to diagnostic tests at the J-Medical who highlighted for the first a low-grade lesion of the hamstring of the left thigh and for the second a low-grade lesion of the hamstring of the right thigh. For both, new tests are planned in about 10 days.

Mikey Varas has already sent the preliminary roster to club teams for the Sept. friendlies to let them know their players are under consideration for call up.

The plan is still that Varas will run the team during the two friendlies, unless the Poch deal gets closed quickly.

So the Weah injury likely means no Dest or Weah for the September games in case the new coach wants to try a 3-5-2, as they would be the first two choices for the RWB.
