US Men's National Team (14 Viewers)

Tillman had a fantastic stat line today. Not only did he lead PSV in chances created, he also led the team in tackles and in duals won. That is a nice mix of stats.

At 22, he could be starting to form the resume where a bigger club comes a knockin....
I still worry about what I'm seeing from him tactically on the defensive side. He's got really good individual skills and awareness. He was taking 2nd balls off guys all game on the tackle, including one from behind that he swiped, turned took a dribble and walk pass and just missed another goal off a good shot (just wide). All of that was on the scrappier side of transition and ball bouncing around.

But I saw a lot of loafing and not getting back, particularly in the middle third when his team wasnt in transition. When your team literally doubles up shots, passes and possession vs your opponent, it doesn't hurt you as much. But the second he goes to a better league (or the US), you have to hope that those bad habits don't continue through...and we've seen that they do, at least for the US.

I think Pulisic may have finally found, if not surpassed, the form he showed during lock down. Every single game he is doing things to directly help the team win.

He's not as fast as he was top end back then, but he's just as quick. Big difference is now he seems to make the right final ball 75% of the time. His decision making is miles better.

Milan are so bad.

I hope CP scores 8 goals today...because it looks like they'd need all of them to get a result.
Not sure what it was, but their shape was much better in the 2nd half. Still seems easy for teams to pick through them, and the backline and center MFs defensive shape always seems jagged... But good for them for the win and holding strong.

What a stat sheet for Pulisic, dominating all Serie A wingers

it is interesting that Pulisic's weakest stat compared to other Serie A wingers is his successful dribbles (but even then he is still in the top 50% in that category).

I used to think dribbling was his strongest part of his game but he clearly has evolved.
He's evolved and the defenses he faces now routinely double and triple him, so the dribble isn't on as much.

He's developed a lot as a passer too. He's much more likely to look for the pass now than he was at 20-21. Really makes him a much better player overall.

Granted It was only Man United, but Richards part of the back 3 that held them scoreless (tbh, it was all about the GK who made some insane saves).

And Iirc, Trusty got a full run over the weekend for Celtic.

I think a real argument can be made now that Pulisic has overtaken Davies as the best player in Concacaf.
Id argue Davies, David and Gimenez are better... But hopefully he keeps this up for the entire season and puts himself clearly above them. He's right there with them imo

Gimenez is not in the conversation for me. He has done very little for the Mexican national team. He has been very very good at club level but he is playing at a lower level than Serie A. I can only imagine what Pulisic would do in the Netherlands with his form the last year plus...

I agree. I also put Pulisic above David for the same reason. David has been excellent, but until he moves to a tougher league I can't put him above Pulisic, who is currently scoring and assisting at a higher clip in a much tougher league.

I would actually put Pulisic above Davies myself right now, but it's really tight. Davies isn't in the form he found 2 years ago for either club or country and Pulisic is in possibly his best form of all time. I can accept others preferring Davies, but Pulisic is the type of player that plays better when more is on the line, like against Liverpool and Inter recently, and I think that can't be discounted.

I don't think Santi is even Mexico's best player. I'd still take Alvarez over him. When Alvarez went down this summer, Mexico was cooked. I also think I'd put Jedi above both of them right now, but that's just me.

Leon Bailey likely deserves to be in the conversation somewhere(another guy I'd put above Gimenez at least).

hmm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, but this is the first sign I have seen of Cavan being a diva............

That looks like B team... Is he getting PT with them during the season?
This is Philly 2, which plays in MLS Next Pro league.

Yes, he gets almost all of his minutes in that league, while dressing and getting small minutes in MLS.

Borussia Dortmund manager Nuri Sahin today: "Gio Reyna is on the right track. He might be able to play before the international break."
Of which year?

It's sad having to keep writing off the supposed future of this team.
It feels so wrong to think this way of a 21 year old but when he got started so early, he feels like a long time veteran that you can almost say for certain which way the career is going to end up.

I really hope I am wrong here but this is now almost 3 straight years of negative information on him, whether it be a ton of injuries or attitude problems.

And it is so painful because he was so good, not even considering his extremely young age, before that first injury which has led to this constant down slope.

hmm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing, but this is the first sign I have seen of Cavan being a diva............

Did he just stare down his teammate after he nailed the FK assist? Like, "See b*tch, this is why I pushed you off the ball."
Yes, but you can clearly see 41 call him an "*******" for pushing him off of it, which Cavan almost certainly heard.

I like the confidence and sometimes you need to be the AH if you are the guy, but I'd hope his teammates thought better of him than that.

Oh, he absolutely did.

This is like walking on a tight rope. Some players thrive off of the "I'm the ****ing man" vibe and others can be swallowed up by it.

Reyna had a similar attitude at this age and while that propelled him to a fantastic start in his career, it did not serve him well when things went negative for him.

Donovan and Pulisic were/are clearly more passive, good team mates. Dempsey was an a-hole, by even his own accounts, but I don't think it came from a diva attitude, it more came from just an overwhelming drive to succeed.

If Cavan can walk the tight rope and be as good as we hope for, there are a TON of fantastic players in soccer's rich history that had that edge to them that show it can work.

He played with a huge chip on his shoulder and it helped him out. He wasn't soft like Landycakes, who absolutely had more soccer talent and honed it better than Dempsey. I don't see Puli as a diva either, other than being knocked off the ball and fouled a lot. But that's what happens when you can make defenders look foolish.

Get ready for more terrible fields.

2025 Concacaf Gold Cup venues announced:
Arlington, TX*
Austin, TX
Carson, Calif.
Glendale, AZ*
Houston, TX*
Houston, TX
Inglewood, Calif.*
Las Vegas*
Minneapolis*
San Diego
San Jose
Santa Clara*
St. Louis
Vancouver

* NFL stadiums.

7 stadiums are domed I think. If it is not a typo, they are using two different stadiums in Houston.

Goff speculated that there were no east coast stadiums because it is expected the Club World Cup will be heavy east coast next summer

Club World Cup is dumb and should be cancelled. Everyone knows this.
Soccer is over the top. Players are hosed with the international nature and being unable to unionize. A ten month season and then every club that's any good is in another half dozen leagues, derbies, shields, cups, etc. People used to bash the US college and high school model with all games and no training time, seems like the world soccer organizations have adopted our model.

When I first saw this I thought the double-Houston was a typo but no, they are indeed using two venues in Houston, so four total in Texas.

Gold Cup and Club World Cup will directly overlap next summer:
Gold Cup -- June 14 – July 6
CWC -- June 15 – July 13

I'm not sure I'd call this FK the "perfect assist" - maybe its tongue in cheek but he's surely shooting on goal.
I can't say one way or another but if he was shooting instead of putting it in the mixer(which is what I think he did from that angle and how he struck the ball), giving that stare after would show some really poor temperament/attitude.

It is one thing to be a **** when you do something great on purpose, it is entirely another thing to act like you meant what happened if he did not.

I thought he was trying to put it on someone's head. Didn't have the power to really try and shoot on frame.
