US Men's National Team (5 Viewers)

Chris Richards starts and goes the distance as Palace win 0-2 at ManU. He's started 6 matches in a row and Palace have steadily moved up the table in that span and are solid mid-table now.
I saw some highlights of Richards little brothering Garnacho all game. Having finally take his spot as the #1 CB is going to help things immensely if this continues.

A best case scenario of Richards and Banks for WC2026 both playing well would be wonderful.
Interestingly, Richards, McKenzie, and Banks are all playing in a back three at the moment. Richards and McKenzie have both been playing the RCB while Banks is LCB. I don't think it will be a strength of our side or anything, but McKenzie and RIchards are on the verge of their prime years and Banks is an obvious special talent.

Funny... If this group of guys who've been in the picture the last few years (not Banks), I had thought that EPB showed the most promise. I have no idea what happened to him or where he even is.

He's in Greece but took a mental health break for the last 6 months or so. He's just now started playing for Panathinaikos recently.

And meanwhile, Trusty and CCV keep getting minutes together... Not the same level, but can't be undersold.
while the Scottish league is certainly not a great level, we have to give them some credit for their Champions League play. The team finished above Sporting, Man City, both Red Bulls, Stuttgart and Bologna to name a few.

They are getting fed to Bayern next though so that is probably the end of the run.

Mostly, Im looking at 2 CBs getting minutes playing together. That kind of time together is what shouldn't be undersold... More than playing in the SpL and CL.

I guess I just dont get how MLS continues to expand financially if they move to a traditional schedule. Puts them up against the NFL and basketball......fewer people are going to want to attend in cold weather. Fewer overseas stars are gonna want to come over if they have to play through a North American winter (I know that the league isn't as dependent on this as they were 20 years ago, but I think it still moves the needle)

I think I understand all the potential benefits, but short term it seems like it be a fairly big negative that they'd have to recover from.
'I'm not disagreeing, but curious how foreign players like going through our summer. and if there's any comment on that vs winter.

I was thinking our winter isn't much different than a lot of Europe's- but our winter varies so much because of our sheer size and varied climates. so it might be true for the North-East (comparable to Europe), but there are obviously worse spots and better spots.
Had the same thought. Summer here is absolutely brutal for a huge chunk of the league. 2026 is going to be interesting and it could get really bad at a couple of sites. We need the Qatar treatment - move it to the fall.

Looks like Joao Felix is coming to Milan on loan. That could cut into some minutes for Pulisic but hopefully not a lot.

If anything Pulisic may be playing too much (words I never thought I would type)

I pointed it out in the other thread, but Inter's tying goal came because Chuckwueze let his man run unmarked to the back post with less than 3 minutes left in the game. He's not going to be very high on the minutes list going forward IMO. Felix's addition likely just keeps Puli on the right wing.

Taylor Booth has transferred to Twente.

Caleb Wiley has been loaned to Watford from Chelsea

I'm excited about both of these if it allows them to get playing time.

A bit odd that Utrecht let Booth go to to a team that could conceivably knock them out of a Champions League or Europa League spot

thanks! I hadn't noticed who was responsible for the completely unmarked guys far post in the dying minutes- but it was a big blunder for sure. Chuck also didn't seem to have much pop the few times he got on the ball- actually looked slow of foot (which I know he isn't).

Felix- feel like wherever he goes, he's only a spot-starter despite all that talent. so hopefully he's just going to fill in the way chuck and just loaned Okafor have been doing. I hope he doesn't cut into any of Musah's time.

Santi should help CP's numbers. a true #9 to finish all those great balls CP puts in. Hopefully his linkup play is Giroud-esque to help feed CP in and around the box too. will be interesting to see what happens to Morata, who finally looked like a nice cog in their attack- whether up higher or dropped. he just needs to stop diving.

I was hoping to see either Cavan or Mathis Albert playing in this but perhaps were considered too young (or maybe not released?).

Does anyone know what the cut off date was to be eligible? Peyton Miller and Niel Pierre both turned 17 last year so I assume that is why they are not on it.

The only ones I am familiar with are Cowell, Chase Adams and Jamir Johnson

is Adams related?

is Riquelme related?

no to Adams.

I don't know enough about Riquelme. I believe he was born in Spain and is in RSL system but that is all I kind of know.

Cowell is the only related person I know for sure.

I wonder how much this is related to Pepi's injury? He is the person who could have a chance to raise his profile (and then his worth) the most

Sources: Charlotte FC rejected bids from multiple Championship clubs for forward Patrick Agyemang.

Charlotte stance is clear: Agyemang not for sale.

Agyemang, 24, scored twice in two USMNT caps this month.

If he can put together even close to a Jedi growth curve,.. yikes

I think someone previously wondered about going to a back 3 with Jedi and Dest as wing backs. This could be something to watch, esp for those thinking CP and Weah as the two up top as we struggle for healthy strikers.

from what I have seen online, neither Cavan nor Albert was released.

Yeah, I think Musah is the one I'm worried about for the rest of the year. Not only might Milan run the 4-2-3-1 with Felix at the AM and Reijnders and Fofana at CM(which would leave Musah out). They also just signed Warren Bondo, who's profile reads like a Musah clone... Great ball carrier, good tackler, decent passer... no final third product.

I think Musah's time is going to really depend on him playing very well when given the opportunity. Hope he's up for the challenge.

I do think Santi up front will be very good for Pulisic though. He's a much better striker than anyone else they had this year. Should impact CP's assist numbers anyway.

I feel like Musah has carved a spot out with conceceo.. kinda like swag, in that he uses him like a jack knife in a few spots. But we'll see what happens with the new players.

Posting this here since it is US Soccer based.

The court case of the NASL suing US Soccer and MLS is complete after 8 years.

In the jury instruction, here are the four claims the jury must decide:
1. USSF/MLS conspired w/ USL to deny NASL D2
2. USSF/MLS conspired w/ each other to deny NASL D1
3/4 MLS monopolized the market for team membership in a D1 league (or injured NASL by attempting to monopolize)

The jury decided with the defendants (US Soccer and MLS) on all counts.

this is born in 2008 and younger so Miller, Pierre, etc are not eligible.

This is not a CONCACAF championship like it used to be. They just put you in a group and if you win the group, you go to the U17 World Cup. Our group is USVI, Cuba, and St Kitts. If we can't win that group with almost any roster, we should be ashamed. No Euros on the roster and Sullivan is now a first-team player for Philly so not really surprising to see him not join. This tournament is pretty bleh.

This is a prelim cap-tying event though so big gets on Jude Terry (Mexico, Argentina) and Max Carrizo (Argentina) to commit to it. IMO Terry is the guy to watch.

I know we've tracked a few young GKs that have made the bench at big clubs but 2006 Julian Eyestone is on the bench for Brentford today.
Eyestone made the bench again today.

Eyestone moved to Brentford after one season at Duke. He is 18.
FTR....this was all pretty planned. Rumor was he had agreed to Brentford before ever going to Duke.

He was at FC Dallas but chose not to sign a homegrown deal, enrolled at Duke early, and then left as soon as he turned 18 and could sign abroad. He's not just some college kid that got discovered.

Oh holy hell. I had no idea this U17 WC was going to be 48 total teams, doubling the amount from the previous tournament.

CONCACAF gets a ridiculous 8 qualifying slots. No wonder all the groups are such garbage.

While CONCACAF won’t get 8 slots for the senior WC, there will be enough slots that qualifying will lose almost all the juice it used to have.

Richards certainly has plenty of upside left to achieve IMO. Getting and keeping a starting spot would go a long way to realizing his potential.

You guys want to chip in and buy the rights to the Cosmos? I bet we could get a good price :)
I'm in. Always thought it would be fun to own a REALLY low level team. Seems like there could be some benefit to being the official successor to the Cosmos.
I'm In too!

Oh wait, would that mean I'd have to sell my stock in a certain EPL team? Ah so what, I'm in!

Can we get FBGs to sign a shirt sponsorship deal? Put Black Eyed Joe on the front!!!

Was listening to Danny Higginbotham break down what has gone wrong at City and also how Pep has his fullbacks play. Some of the context was not replacing Kyle Walker and how not many backs out there can play inverted like Pep does. The conversation turned to Robinson and wondered if a traditional back like him would work in Pep's team. They were not sure he would, which isn't a knock on Jedi, just a comment on how Pep's teams play.

This is very interesting because in the last US camp, Poch had Jedi playing a lot of inverted LB where he came inside more often.

Higginbotham is usually very good at these breakdowns and I know he watches the USMNT, wonder if he didn't note that or see it.

Do not besmirch those classic kits. Just let me wear a circa 1980 Chinaglia jersey.

Ok, we'll make the black eyed joe an alternate jersey.

One of our best young CB prospects, Neil Pierre has just signed a first team contract with Philly. He is 17.

========

As an aside, if you are a Philly fan, the team probably drives you crazy because they rely heavily on home grown talent and yet we as USMNT fans could not be any more happy with their policy. There are some MLS teams where it is almost impossible to break into first teams as a young American.

It's an interesting discussion. Jedi certainly has the speed necessary to get up and down the field like Walker used to, but he's never really been one to be super involved in the attack. Although, given his assist totals this year, maybe that is changing? I don't see him as capable of the ball handling and first touch needed to play like Walker used to though.

Funny enough, of all the full backs in the world that would excel at Pep's inverted full back system.... Walker's now teammate Theo Hernandez is probably the best option at LB.

Gotta say I'm really excited about a couple of these kids. Noakhai Banks could be the dominant CB we've been begging for. He's 6'4" and 200 lbs. If he'd grown up under different circumstances he'd be getting recruiting calls from every big American football school. Yet despite his size, in the little I've seen of him, he's quick and highly skilled for his age. I absolutely could envision a spot for him at next summer's WC despite him being only 19 if he continues to impress.

Mathis Albert will be fun to watch. I think he and Cavan Sullivan will give a a true look at where our academies are at in the US and whether an extra year in Germany will spring board Albert past Sullivan or not.(I'm assuming Man City will choose to find a European loan for Cavan once he turns 16)

This is a big upcoming game for Banks.

He is coming off his first poor game so we get a quick look at two important questions:

1) Will coach drop him immediately after one poor outing?

2)If not dropped, does he bounce back with a solid game.

He was an unused sub for a cup game yesterday, which makes me hopeful that they're saving him for another start this weekend
