US Men's National Team (12 Viewers)

I assume this is college related but JK's point about Cam, Besler, Zusi and Birnbaum finding their professional footing in their mid 20's instead on between 18-20 was interesting.

 
Marco Reus is expected to have a long recovery from his abductor injury.  One site in Germany said it could be up to 4 months before he heels but Reus is hoping for shorter time period. 

This could give more space for Pulisic to continue getting playing time at Dortmund at least at the beginning of the season.

If Pulisic can continue the spot starter/regular sub role for the entire Bundesliga season, that will be fantastic for his age.

Guess that also explains Reus not making the German team. 

 
Lets here any and all predictions for tonight.  Such a massive game in the context of the first round but I have no real feeling for which way this will go (more due to Colombias inconsistency than the US's).

I badly want this funk to be over with and they get a surprise win, but my confidence is limited at best.

Put a gun to my head..... US 1 COL 3

Hopeful = 1-1

Dream US 2  COL 0

 
2-2.  Open game.  Brooks and Cam still working out a few kinks in learning to play with one another at the back and Bacca profits.  But the US surprisingly feisty.  Goals by Wood and Pulisic. 

 
Do we need a separate USWNT thread to note that as of today it appears the US Soccer CBA is valid? At least until it expires later this year ...

 
That's completely unfounded speculation.  Just as likely that the Ecudor game is the model with the US playing ugly by preventing a lot of chances in the first half and then gradually trying to open up late.  One thing that wouldn't shock me is a red card changing the game either way.

I don't follow the law at all.  Does this mean they can not legally strike now, at least until the CBA ends?

The more you read about this case, the worse and worse it looked for the women.  They played the "equal pay for equal play" card to hard IMO and it came back to bite them once the truth came about about how US Soccer is paying their club salaries.

Correct.  They can't strike before the Olympics now.

Yes - if the reports are correct, and as much as Julie Foudy can be trusted on legal matters, the players can't strike (e.g., the olympics) until it expires this December.

She's pretty much the only person I've seen who has tried to talk to multiple people and kind of understand the legal issues from both perspectives.  Which is sort of damning indictment of journalism, but good on her.

Wage discrimination complaint is before the EEOC.  Not in court.  EEOC will issue a finding and a right to sue letter, and then it would go to District Court.  EEOC finding is not binding.

The Hex is just so intense with the WC on the line I think it's #2. Given the competition of Copa and that we rarely participate I think it's justified ahead of Gold Cup.

It's 2nd to the World Cup. This is top teams with first choice lineups (except Brazil. Their focus is elsewhere). We finally get a chance to see how we measure up against these awesome teams. This is the Euro's for us. Do you think Spain and France think of WC qualifying over the Euros? #### that. Besides, it doesn't matter if you think the hex is more important. They aren't being played at the same time. You play to win the mother ####### game people. This is what I've been saying. These rankings of importance just rationalize defeat in the end. It is a loser's mentality. Save it for your EPL clubs when they lose their tournaments. This is your country we are talking about. USA!USA!USA!

 
I was just setting my DVR for tonight and noticed that FS1 is having a 1.5 hour pre-game show.

I still remember when entire soccer games in the 90's would only be shown on TV in English if they were compressed into 1 hour edited games.

and in spite of htat previously linked "wtf is copa america" rant... every news agency, including google's front page, is hot and heavy on the copa.

I've just started drinking, but that won't stop me from kicking the ball around with the boy in the backyard and then cheering on my daughter at her last game of the spring, followed of course by more drinking while cheering on the fellas this evening.

It's really crazy the importance soccer in my life has gained over the last five years thanks to my kids. Never gave the sport a second thought prior to that, and now I'm seeking out games from Europe on weekend mornings and reading opinions from dudes on a message board. Good stuff. :thumbup:

It is not bad or good.  Colombia's lack of consistency makes it hard for me to guess.  I like how the US has looked in the friendlies but that can be meaningless once a tournament starts.

I can tell you from experience it won't go great with parents or other coaches.  I started every season with the same spiel how we were focused on improving skills and not focused on wining yada yada. 

In the younger ages goal kicks are a great scoring opportunity because many kids can barely kick the ball out of the penalty area. I would back my team up to midfield to essentially give the other team a free pass.  Parents on my team were pissed and coaches on the other would not return the favor.  I also encouraged kids to try and dribble someone at least once a game.   Every season started out rough but by the end of the year my teams were passing and dribbling better then any team.  Even with the improvement parents #####ed because I let crummy Joey play as much as there superstar. 

RHE I would definitely coach and teach the kids the right way but understand you probably wont win any popularity awards.

Don't necessarily disagree with Copa ahead of the Hex. I think Gold Cup was a clear #4 and I deliberated between Copa and the Hex for the reasons you mentioned.

Regarding it doesn't matter...it's all in fun to compare and discuss right? I don't know about others but I ABSOLUTELY do NOT rationalize defeat because it's something other than the WC! Back in my playing days I was very competitive and hated losing at anything. About the only time I don't get pissed when the USMNT loses is if it's a friendly and even then I'm not exactly in a good mood.

Separate proceedings yes, but I don't necessarily agree with Foudy that one has "nothing 2 do" with the other.  I guess it depends on the nature and scope of the ruling today.

No, I think she's likely wrong about that too.  If the terms of employment were legitimately collectively bargained for, I don't understand how it could be wage discrimination.  But I don't expect her to know that, so I just took her tweet to mean that they were separate proceedings.
