US Men's National Team (5 Viewers)

rumor from MLS Cup is that Garza is being traded to Vancouver.

That puts George Bello a step closer to meaningful minutes if it happens.

looks like there was some drama with Carleton.  He was no where to be found in the stadium last night.

Rumors ranged from he was traded (and not yet announced) or was being disciplined or some combination of the two.

some one on twitter just posted that Carleton was out partying the night before the game and posted pics on his social media account.

I have no idea if this true but it would explain why Tata told him to stay home.

If true, time to pencil him out of future US hopes. What a maroon.

Ian Thomas: Last night’s MLS Cup Final on FOX drew a 1.2 metered market rating, the best rating for a cup final since at least ‘98 and up 71% compared to last year’s final.

one of the twitter media posts (was either Ives, Wahl, Carlisle...one of those guys).  Was listed as a rumor. It sounds like Vancouver is being super active as they are being mentioned in numerous trade rumors.
Yeah I see it now from a few sources. Nothing local yet. The logic, it seems, is that George Bello is 16 years old and the heir-apparent to Garza on the left side of the field. Not sure how I feel about it honestly.

Interesting that the offseason starts so soon after the Cup Final. Trade window opens Monday morning. MLS expansion draft for FC Cincinnati is imminent.

Overnight ratings for Fox Sports coverage of #mlscup are coming in. Top 10 markets:

Atlanta 11.5
Portland 7.3
Milwaukee 2.2
W Palm Beach 1.9
Austin 1.5
Raleigh 1.4
Louisville 1.4
Greensboro 1.3
Washington DC 1.3
Seattle 1.3

It is moving quickly.  I have already seen trades confirmed along with an unending amount of rumors.

Straight red. He yedlined two straight touches as last man, yielding a breakaway, and rugby tackled the attacker. Easy red. And cost his team vital points at home in a winnable game.
oh that was awful now that I have seen it.  That is the type of mistake that allows the coach to make easy changes in the lineup.  He better hope who ever plays in his spot next game does not have a great game.

Exactly the thoughts I had.

The kind of mistake(s) I would want nowhere near the field as coach.

Btw, another epl game this weekend had the cb make a similar bad play leading directly to a goal, but no red.

Looks like the Garza trade was just a rumor

A little news… I asked around to some people I know after I saw the rumors linking Greg Garza to Vancouver, because I found them hard to believe. Well, as it turns out, league sources tell me the rumors are indeed false. So perhaps we can put that one to bed.

sounds very good if the translation is correct

Ajax contracts Sergiño Dest

Ajax has contracted Sergiño Dest. The 18-year-old defender signed a contract that starts on 1 January 2019 and runs until 30 June 2021. It concerns the 1st contract for the American youth international.

Dest, who has a Dutch mother and an American father, has been playing in Ajax's youth academy since 2012. He made his professional debut on October 15, 2018 in the match Young PSV - Young Ajax (2-1) . Since then, he played five games for the U23 team, in which he scored 1 time.

"I am very pleased with this contract", says Dest. "I like to play as many matches as possible for Jong Ajax, I really hope to become a fixture and I hope to make my debut this season in Ajax 1."

Getting paid on time is something that players based domestically in the United States sometimes take for granted. There are many places abroad where that can be a struggle.

United States national team right back Shaq Moore is finding that out the hard way where he plays in Spain’s second tier with CF Reus Deportiu (on loan from La Liga’s Leveante). On Saturday, Reus players staged an on-field protest over not having been paid for three months.

During the protest, Reus players intentionally kept the ball in their own half against opponents, Alcorcon, who were passive. Eventually the protests ended and Reus went on to win 1-0.

That's nuts.  I'm assuming Moore is likely making enough from his Levante contract that he's probably not hurting even after missing 3 months pay(I'm guessing Reus isn't even paying his full salary), but I'm betting some of the Reus players are pretty close to paycheck to paycheck.

Is Levante financially responsible still for Moore in the case that Reus remains unable to pay and fold or is he just SOL?

I honestly have no idea how it works and who is responsible for payments when on loan.

This issue of non payments is more common in South America I think (which I believe was one of the openings that helped MLS land so many players from there the last few years)

During the Atlanta parade today they supposedly called out every players number and name.  Some are saying the only number (and player missing from parade) was Carleton.

if true... yeeesh.

was thinking about this and yedlin's blunder, and taking a step hoping they're both just stand-alone foolish mishaps (yedlin's certainly) and not the cause for concern. I mean, carleton knew he wasn't dressing- might as well go out and have some fun- that in and of itself isn't so terrible... unless he was explicitly told not to.

Yes I didn't quite see how that made sense!

This is @BassNBrew's dude, ya?
Former roommate of my son. He a a trial last summer but didn’t hitch on. I think he’s regressed but didn’t see him plaY for the 20s. Definitely a winger and not a defender. I mean he could play rb if stopping teams for scoring isn’t part of the requirements.

The RB part is what threw me.  I remember you talking about him as an attacker.

well he clearly did something against team rules so I think it is safe to say he knew what he was doing was wrong, what ever it was.

I think that was a hope and prayer to get a specific talent on the field would never have a shot at displacing pulisic or any of the other young guns already in Europe. Maybe they were hoping for a Kyle walker. I personally don’t think you can take an attacking player and change him to a world class defender at 18. His best skill is dribbling around people and centering the ball.

He was only 3rd team ACC this year. Missed much of the season with the u18 call up.  Needs to go pro immediately as the clock is ticking and he’s losing ground to his peers.

god do I love this thought process change in our fan base.

15 years ago we were resigned to most of young players having to start after college.   Now we are nervous when an 18 or 19 year old is not already engaged with a pro team.

Wonderful change in a relatively short time period.

A very good source confirms to me that the next technician of the FC Dallas will be Luchi Gonzalez current director of the academies of the team. The announcement would be made official next week #MLS

==========

This is not great for two reasons

1) Tab appears to have been passed over or at least not offered enough money

2) Luchi is the guy everyone points to as the key in the Dallas academy success

Hopefully for #2, enough of a blueprint is in place to keep churning out talent.

On the positive side, maybe Luchi will be more willing to open a path to players like Servania and Pomykal next year to give them an opportunity to break through.

Some interesting Steffen news.

The transfer to Man City is official but it won't happen until next summer after the Gold Cup, which might make getting the work permit easier if Steffen starts every game for the US.

Both Schalke and Dortmund have advanced to knock out round so today's group stage games are meaningless.

Weston was on bench but did not play in game.

Pulisic is starting

for those that have been following... how often has Swag played forward for schalke? he seemed so out of sorts (as did his team's offense) with him up there... even though he was working hard. just not making the best runs, getting the best positioning, playing the best balls... basically- didn't look like a forward.

I think two games and maybe one as a sub.   They are obviously desperate.

I did not see his last game but I did read this write up of a match analysis of the game.

He was listed as one of the key players (but as the author notes he was only listed because he had no one else to list for Schalke

https://dd.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/a4wdcz/post_match_analysis_schalke_12_borussia_dortmund/

Here is the little tidbit on Weston

Key Players:

McKennie: throwing him in here as I felt bad giving Schalke only 1 key player. He did pretty well for being a 20 year old midfielder thrown up top. 2 aerial duels, 3 interceptions, and the most touches(39) and passes(24) of any of Schalke’s attackers show how he tried to get involved

I was watching, and at some point the broadcast listed available substitutes for both teams. a couple of forwards on the bench for Schalke. When I saw that, I was thinking to myself genuinely impressed that the coach rates Swag high enough to need him on the field ahead of guys who have to be, positionally at least, more capable than him up front.

and on a more negative note, considering how desperate they are for forwards the fact that Hadji can't even get rostered shows how much he blew his golden opportunity.

thought that too.

but I'd swear there were at least two other forwards... who obviously are already ahead of wright. that he AND those guys don't rate high enough to keep the MFer off the field is troubling for schalke fans.
