US Men's National Team (12 Viewers)

I watched a bit of Mexico last night and I don't know if it is just coincidence or if this is a Tata trademark but they look ultra dynamic going forward, scary so.  But much like Atlanta, they are very vulnerable defensively.

They gave up only 3 goals in the 2 games but it easily could have been 6 with even half way decent finishing.

That all being said, Mexico are the clear favorites going into the Gold Cup.

South America is having a rough international break.

Colombia lost to South Korea

Bolivia lost to Japan and South Korea

Chile lost to Mexico

Ecuador lost to the US

Brazil drew with Panama

Venezuela had a super good result but even then they beat Argentina
add to this

Chile draw with US

Paraguay loss to Mexico

Peru loss to El Salvador

US Soccer has not yet confirmed this but I saw a couple of tweets yesterday that stated that Jamaica will be one of the warm up games for the Gold Cup in DC.    I assume this has not been announced yet due to the fact that Jamaica could end up in the US's group and the friendly game could be changed.   The Gold Cup draw is on April 10th.

Sounds like it is nothing too serious.  Time for return is still considered TBD.   Hope it is less than a few weeks

CHICAGO (March 27, 2019) – U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Christian Pulisic has been diagnosed with a right quadriceps strain after an MRI and evaluation conducted Tuesday night in Houston. He has returned to Borussia Dortmund to continue treatment and establish a timetable for his return to play.

#### me.  That is a significant amount of time to sit this late in the season.  There is a chance he may not break back into the squad.  Thankfully we will have some friendlies before the Gold Cup if that comes true.

Source with knowledge of the situation tells me that the initial prognosis on Christian Pulisic’s quad injury is that he’ll be sidelined for 3-4 weeks.

Jon Arnold‏Verified account @ArnoldcommaJon

FC Dallas forward Jesus Ferreira told me today he doesn't believe his paperwork will get sorted in time for him to be eligible to represent the United States at the U-20 World Cup.

This may not be good news for Sargent but it is still cool to see

Aron Jóhannsson will be returning to #Werder Bremen's squad tomorrow for the first time in 343 days

Derby County take a 3-0 lead on Rotherham United just before halftime and it’s American Duane Holmes with the assist as his cross is headed home by Martyn Waghorn. Two goal clearances & an assist for the Georgia-born Holmes

Holmes scored as well in second half.

he slants to the right but has not been deployed as a touchline player.  He looks more like an eight, box to box type.  I would love to see him get a chance in the Swag position as I am not sold on Roldan there.
Roldan does next to nothing for me. Going to need more than "nice hustle" from US mfs.

In the 8 games Adams has started at the 6, RBL has 7 wins and a draw and have out scored the opponents 19 - 1.

And the one goal against was a dubious PK call.

It is almost impossible for anyone to have thought this transfer would go better.

Tyler Adams with a composite score of 7.36 on Whoscored.  Only 9 games, but still.  Bundesliga, 3rd place team.  And VvD is at 7.44.  Luis Suarez is at 7.51.  Salah is 7.37 for reference.

It's an incredible story.

FWIW, Pulisic is ~6.7 and McKennie is ~6.9.

ETA:  Messi is at 8.9 :lmao:

I know it is a small sample size but he passes both the eye test and the stats test.

I feel very safe that we are well past the "its just a fluke" stage.  Now the question remains whether he can maintain this incredible high level.

One of the big stories of the off season was that Dallas was finally launching their own USL team to get their quality academy kids higher quality game experience.

North Texas SC had their first game tonight and the US U17 player Ricardo Pepi had a hat trick in his pro debut.  He turned 16 last month.

The rarest of rare happens again today.  An American teenager is starting at the ten spot in MLS.

I won't be able to watch but I hope @Ted Lange as your Bartender and or @Nedcan give us a summary of how Aaronson does for Philly.
I wouldn't read too much into him getting the start; Union couldn't even fill the bench they're so short on players.  Between the international break, injuries, and new players not ready to play, they only had 5 players on the bench.  They had to sub their backup RB in for Ilisinho at RW.

I didn't get to watch the game, but it sounds like he was dangerous at times and had a solid game.  Needs to work on not getting muscled off the ball.  Fontana subbed in for him around 80' and was solid but not at Aaronson's level.
Didn’t get to see much of the game, but Aaronson started again and played 90. He looked like he was playing LM next to Fabian.

Who cares...just churning out players for Mexico.

Two goals tonight for Pomykal.  Think he'll probably jump right into the senior pool once the U20 World Cup is over.  Seems perfect for that "dual 8/10s" role.
I listened to his podcast interview with Adam this week.  He seems to have gotten over some sort of mental hurdle that was holding him back.  He said last year he could not get his body to "try" things.  He kept playing every safe ball he could.  But he said something clicked for him during the U20 World Cup Qualifying and he has been flying since.

He is making the leap at the perfect time now.   Very good club play supplemented by a good U20 WC (the most scouted youth tournament in the world) should get him some offers from Europe.  Hopefully Dallas will not be too greedy.

Here are the two goals.

And Jesus scored in this game too

He’s been playing like this for a year and a half now for the Red Bulls.  It’s only the hardheadness of USMNT coaches that haven’t let him show it at that level.  You can’t teach his speed and ability to read the game (on both offense and defense).  US coaches simply see the speed and motor and pigeonhole him.  He’s our best player (arguably on offense as well since his ability to read the play unbalances defenses when they are most stretched) and putting him as a locking RB is simply absurd (Lahm comparisons notwithstanding, we aren’t ####### Germany here).

News: Tab Ramos will submit a 50-player provisional roster for the Under-20 World Cup tomorrow. I expect four Union players to be on it. And there's a plot twist. Ramos tells me he isn't happy about Mark McKenzie's lack of playing time:

He should have gone to Germany.  Would be better off training at PSG then bench sitting in Celtic.
It is disappointing because the first coach liked him, gave him a good mix of starts and long sub appearances and Weah seemed to play well.  As soon as he left, his playing time dropped significantly.

I agree with most of what you're saying. One thing... RBs heavily coached that quick change from d to o, always looking for the dangerous pass. While Adams does have an amazing ability to read the game and has crazy closing speed to shut things down or open them up... he definitely learned the transition game in NY under Marsch.

Is it crazy to say he reminds me of Kante?  Maybe not quite as physical in challenges, but that motor and style of play.
Definitely Kante. Adams has said he's his contemporary idol.
