US Men's National Team (35 Viewers)

Love it, Andy.

I'd put Brooks and Boca together in the middle...I don't care about lcb vs rcb.

I'd go Reyna over Caillou, especially with Germany there to do the dirty work.

Dest at LB.

Ld vs tab...oof. yeah, that one hurts.

Can't argue with your forwards or settling on McBride. I think Jozy has higher upside, but has been less consistent. Tbh, wynalda has the filth I'd want up there...but with deuce, maybe less needed.

I would have zero issues with Reyna over Bradley.  Reyna was clearly the better technical player but Bradley had that work rate when he was young that I loved.

OMG, Wynalda and Dempsey on the field together!!!  They would either end up as BFF's or trying to stab each other at halftime (every halftime).....Would be wonderful entertainment :)

------------------Friedel

Cherundolo Dooley Brooks OMG

-------------Bradley Jones

---Donovan Reyna Pulisic

---------------Dempsey

It was hard to leave Pope out.  Reyna with Bradley and Jones is a fairly impotent midfield in terms of goals, but Reyna > McBride or Jozy for me so I got the best XI players on the field.

I like that.  I don't usually think of Dempsey as a lone striker but he could probably get it done by turning into a combination player playing off the ridiculous speed Donovan and Pulisic have.

How incredibly sad is that that we are only half joking when listing a player who has never played first team soccer and never played for the US National team as the best US LB ever??

:lmao:

If you are speaking of talent in terms of pure technical foot play, I would have to find some way to get Tab on the field.

Weston's technical skills are not his strength.  Maybe he sits, you slide Reyna back, and slide either Donovan or Pulisic to the middle and put Tab on the RW.

We have dealt with the LB mess in four various ways over the years:

Convert a CB: Ream, Agoos, Boca

Convert a RB: Caliguiri, Chandler, Frankie

Convert a LW: Fab, Lewis, DMB

Try and play a real LB: Castillo, Villafana, Robinson, Lovitz, Sweat

While far from perfect, we have probably had the best luck converting our LW to play LB.   Christian, are you listening, this is your future  :(

Not that it changes your point at all, but Agoos was a LB for DCU for almost the entirety of their glory years after the first season.  Three-time all MLS as a LB.  Still the only UVA player to be a 4-time all-American, but I'm not sure where he played in college.

ETA:  every now and then I look for a goal he volleyed directly off a corner kick from outside the box, but I've never found it.  They ran that play a few times where he connected.

I played against him somewhere around that time...CB.

in conjunction with this is the fact that the Mexican youth teams seem to be slipping across the board, something they used to dominate in, not just in Concacaf but world wide.

Today Mexico was dumped from the U15 Concacaf Championships by Canada, which elicited these wonderfully over reactive quotes from the Mexican announcers:

========================

"Goooool Canada! 2-0! Eliminating the Mexican team in a tragic week...I can't believe it! Incredible! GO TO WORK MEXICANS, because the situation is critical! Honduras eliminates you in the U22s. Canada in the U15s. What's missing? WHAT'S MISSING?!" "This situation is no joke."

"Canadians celebrate justly, 2-0!...And Mexico returns home empty handed!...With what's happened with the U20s, the U22s, and the U15s, OPEN YOUR EYES DIRECTORS OF THE MEXICAN FEDERATION! WE ARE AN EMBARRASSMENT!"

The US team is 4-0-0 with no goals conceded so far in this tournament and has advanced to the semi finals.

Chris Richards was in action for the first time this season for Bayern Munich II, starting, playing all 90 minutes, and keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Sparta Prague II. Bayern II will be happy to see him back, as they have already allowed 11 goals in just 4 games

Oof

"He had a groin operation. We thought he'd be OK, but unfortunately he's not so … I can't see him for at least another three or four weeks at least. That's a worry for us." - Steve Bruce on DeAndre Yedlin's injury

Sargent is starting today for Werder in a German Cup match.  Looks like a good lineup for Werder over all so they may be starting close to their first choice team today.

Dest broke his first team league game cherry today, subbing in early in the second half for Ajax.

@TheRealArturK

Sergino Dest looks great in his Eredvisie debut for Ajax.

From what little I can find, it sounds like Sargent had an uninspiring game.  He played 62 minutes and then came out.

Ageless Pizarro subbed in late and scored twice.

Mazraoui is the player Dest subbed in for.

@USMNTvideos

Erik ten Hag (Ajax coach): "Mazraoui has an injury, but we hope it won't become a problem. Dest has developed excellently. I hope he continues and fights for his place in the team."

First Chelsea game of the season.  Two of Chelsea’s wingers are injured and not available.  Lampard is choosing to start Mason Mount out of position over Pulisic.  Not a good omen for his chances this season.

Looks like Reyna may have some serious competition as the golden boy.  How does Dortmund keep doing this so many times?

14 year old Youssoufa Moukoko made his under-19 debut today.   And he scored 6 times.......

He was promoted to the U19's after making a mockery of the U17's by scoring 83 times in 50 games.

That kid is 14?  He looks 30.  Crazy if he's actually 14.   Reyna had a goal and an assist btw.

Per the Chicago Fire Goalkeeping Academy’s page on instagram, US-U17 starting goalkeeper Damien Las has signed a deal with English Championship club Fulham. Las has access to a European passport, allowing him to make the move before he turns 18
