US Men's National Team (15 Viewers)

Well it was bound to happen eventually, especially with the USL growing, but Freddy Adu has finally been out done after all these years.

USL Championship team Orange County SC signed 14 year old Francis Jacobs to a pro contract and he could make his pro debut this weekend.

He is yet another of these 14 year olds that look anything but 14.  If you had told me 18, I would have not known any difference.

cases like this is why bio-banding is being pushed.

I wouldn't have been able to tell you which one of those three was the 14 year old.

I agree.

On the plus side, having the USL continue to grow, does give these freaks of nature a place to play where they won't be head and shoulders athletically better than every one else and should force them to improve their techniques.

I go to my daughters college a lot.  He would completely fit in there with no issues visually.   And I am not just talking about being a big kid.  His face does not look any where near 14.

I have no idea what Earnie has done to get promoted so quickly but as part of the Kate Markgraf being appointed the USWNT GM, we also learned Earnie has been promoted to Sporting Director for US Soccer.

US Soccer will now begin a search for a new mens GM.

Earnie's new job seem infinitely more interesting.

====

Stewart will oversee the Sports Performance Department at the senior and youth levels of both the men’s and women’s national teams.

Stewart will manage talent identification, performance and analytics while attempting to create a uniform process for running the senior and youth programs.

While focusing on player development, Stewart’s position will also help to create more accessible and formalized pathways to advance through the different levels of the national team. This effort will include creating more options for education for coaches and referees, as well as offering support for the development of youth clubs.

In terms of a new GM, there is no more perfect match that Dennis te Kloese.  I have no idea if he would leave what I am sure is a highly lucrative gig at the Galaxy.

He is Dutch, so his background should fit with Earnie.  He is fluent in Spanish from his time in Mexico and he clearly understands how to speak to the Mexican-American parents as it was his time in Mexico where they put in the plans to go after US born kids eligible for Mexico.

On the conference call today, Earnie said they have not yet sorted out how Tab is going to figure into the new regime.

This comes at an interesting time since RSL needs a coach and as Sciaretta pointed out, they have a really good academy there that they want to push along into the first team more regularly.  That might be a nice fit for Tab.

Quick summary of Yanks in Europe from this weekend.  Great categories.

I highly recommend this guys podcast if you like US Mens National and youth team talk. :)

longer summary here

interesting to see that bacon got the start and an assist. and a new-guy to me, Michael Hoyos, is playing in Ecuador and scored a goal (his 7th of the season). also mentioned eric lichaj playing for hull city- had forgotten about him.

Hoyos is 28... wears #11 and is called a MF. fwiw.

Ajax beat Poak today 3-2 to advance in the Champions League qualifying stages.

They next play Apoel for a chance to get into the group stage.

Dest subbed in at the half today and played the entire second half.

With the amount of money on the line for Ajax to get into the UCL group stage, Dest playing in the entire second half of a crucial qualifying game really shows he is likely entrenched as a squad player with the first team.

Not a good look for Concacaf as Solvenia and Portugal played in the finals of the Concacaf U15 tournament.

The US lost to Portugal in the semi finals.  Portugal went on to win the tournament.

Portugal's in the south east of El Salvador, right?

Slovenia eh? Those green shirts they wore against the US in 2010 might be my favorite national team jersey ever.

17 year old Charlie Kelman started for Southend United today in the league cup and scored both goals in the 2-1 win.

Kelman was the kid who made a splash last year by scoring from inside his own half for his first professional goal.

I'm going to go ahead and assume he's a LB

I coached travel soccer, ref for a number of years at hs level etc.  while coaching u10 level with my son playing, the other team rolled out a kid that literally was about 5’10 170 lbs. He rolled over our team as everyone was afraid of him and even had some facial hair.  So after the game I shook the opposing hc hand and asked so how old is that kid.  He said kid came from Uganda with no birth certificate but parents swore he was 10... 😁. I started to laugh then walk away.

basically what I looked like at 14... 6', facial hair (caterpillar mustache), but was probably pretty slight... like 140 or so... compared to this kid. but also without a professional training set up. but I was roided up starting around 7.

I think it might include a few more games then that as Lewandowski is listed with 18 Bundesliga goals, eight in the UCL, once in the DFB Pokal and a hat-trick in the German Super Cup.

Anyway, going with the following...

Christian Pulisic over/under 15g+a - Over.  Chelsea had eight players with 8 or more goals last year.  Politic is one of their best eight offensive players.  He's always had as many assists as goals.

Tyler Adams over/under 2300 minutes - Under.  That's just a ton of minutes

Timothy Weah over/under 10g+a - Over.  Being optimistic.

Josh Sargent over/under 800 minutes - Over.  Based on crap games counting.

Sergino Dest over/under 700 minutes - Under.  Will need injuries in front of him to reach this mark.

Weston McKennie over/under 5 positions - Over.  Gimme.

Not surprising but mediation has already failed between US Soccer and the USWNT.

Now we get to enjoy an ugly trial where it is likely that only one question needs to be answered.  Whether the US Soccer paid NWSL salaries should count as part of the women's compensation package.

What ever the result, I pray US Soccer gets out of the club soccer business after this current CBA expires.

Legally - this is the question that will be the focus:

104. The USSF has paid Plaintiffs and the collective less than similarly situated male employees performing equal work on jobs the performance of which require equal skill, effort and responsibility and which are performed under similar working conditions.

The women have to prove that the male members of the USMNT are "similarly situated" in order to prevail on their claim.  In their complaint, the women have couched the argument in terms of time commitments by members of both teams, that both teams play the same sport, and that the women are more successful.

If push comes to shove - and I am not sure where the Women have left any wiggle room in their demands - I think US Soccer can win this without ever going in front of a jury.  The skill and athleticism required to play for the USMNT is significantly higher than playing for the USWNT.  That is something I think US Soccer can objectively establish.

I think the fact that the majority of the time claimed was covered by collective bargaining agreements is probably more germane.

"no worse than Trapp" is not the name of my better than ezra cover band.

But still a nagbe fan and glad to hear he's playing well.

That is quite a quote
