US Men's National Team (13 Viewers)

Never like to see anyone get hurt but Rashica has suffered an abductor injury and is expected to miss multiple weeks.  This should theoretically open up more minutes for Sargent.

I'm not as worried about this as some of you are...

Callum Hudson-Odoi was in first team training today for Chelski.

I think CP still gets his minutes.  He's looked good in a lot of the early games, not as good Sunday but I still think he will get a ton of minutes this season.

Jesse Marsch is off to a fantastic start for his first European head coaching gig.  The team is in first in Austria with a 4-0-0 record and a GD of +14.

Best news I have heard in a while!

Holland released their U21 roster today and Dest was not on the team.  It is unknown whether he was called and he rejected or whether he was not called.

Either case is good for the US.

The Dutch fans sound as concerned as we do :)   This was my favorite fan comment of many (translated)

Dest: "I haven't made a choice for the Netherlands or America yet"   KNVB: "Oh, we'll make it easier for you. We don't select you ”

Hopefully US Soccer can take advantage of this.

   This kid is just crushing it.   I think this moves him in to the scoring lead in the league now, as a midfielder.

@zlebmada

Uly Llanez scores in the 12th minute for the Wolfsburg U19s as they go up 1-0 over the Magdeburg U19s. That's 5 goals in less than 200 minutes in the U19 Bundesliga for the American.

I may have gotten a little too happy here.

Thinking about this more, I think all this tells us is that Dest has not secretly filed a one time switch with FIFA.   If I understand the rules correctly, until he files the switch, Holland can't play him (they could call him into a camp though).

he knocked in another today.

3 straight games with a brace and has picked up 2 assists along the way.

That is a goal or assist every 33 minutes so far.

is he the "haven't been contacted by anybody from the US" kid, or is that the guy with LA?

who am I kidding- most likely, both of them.

Uly's dad is the guy who tweets a lot and has intimated that many of the young kids don't feel any love from US Soccer.  Uly was one of the youngest players on the US U20 WC team so he is clearly in the mix.

I think Uly is one of the guys Mexico is likely to go all out for.

If he does a Pulisic/Swag/Sargent and plows through the German system and gets a quick call up to the first team say in the spring, he is going to be in the same boat as Dest in that he may have earned a call up to the full US team.

Ajax drew 0-0 in the first leg of that last qualifying game for the Champions League group stage.  Dest did not start but played about 30 minutes in second half.

However, Dest could be set up for a massive role in the second leg as Ajax's RB picked up a red card late in the game which I believe suspends him for the next Champions League game.

Stop the damn presses.  Twitter:

Source: The Netherlands DID NOT attempt to call up Sergino Dest to their latest U21 roster. It's a preliminary squad so things can change, but Holland did not attempt to select him. Gregg Berhalter has been in touch with Dest's camp and continues to follow his progress #USMNT
USSoccer now has the ability to get 'in touch' with a player's 'camp'...  this is game changing...

Andy getting feisty on this point on Twitter.

I'm guessing GGGG gave Dest's FB page a like and called it a year.

interesting charts here showing the growth in minutes for domestic young players over the years

https://twitter.com/NatFan9/status/1163645388814987264?s=20
That first chart would have been a lot more interesting with 20 year olds excluded.  20 look like it's an age that's historically had a lot of minutes.  Almost all (or all) of the growth is in the U-19 and younger categories.  By including the 20s it looks a lot less dramatic than it is.

Arnos Vale in St Vincent held 18k according to wiki.  This one in the Cayman's holds only 3k.  They are talking about moving in some temporary stands for the US game.
sweet jeebus. I think that's about what my college stadium holds.

I might have to make a trip to the Caymans...

"Duane Holmes will have another run-out for the U23s tomorrow night... The plan is for him to play 60, 70, maybe 75 minutes. If all goes well, from next week, he will be available for the first team.” Cocu, Derby manager

I thought this comment was interesting and follows along with our general thought process of the players caring.

We have always said that while JK had many faults, that he seemed to be a good recruiter.  This comment from Sonora shows why the simplicity of what many of us have been requesting can have an effect.

@ArchBell

Spoke w/ Joel Sonora to follow up on this. Says he has work to do re: USMNT call. Most interesting tho was how much he appreciated getting a note from Klinsmann when he was at Stuttgart, Jurgen keeping tabs on him. "Players appreciate things like that."

Added him to the tracker
Are the caps up to date?  If not I can take a run through them if you want...I probably won't do "current cycle caps" though.  That column will be too hard to maintain unless we do it every game.  You may want to consider removing that unless we take on that task.

Yeah I was keeping up on that at one point, but it was a pain.  I removed that column.

Feel free to update the total caps when you want.

ok the caps are all up to date now.

I noticed Danny Williams is still listed as unattached.  I wonder if he is going to retire?

Again... Americans are consistently over performing the level they're brought into in Germany.
It's as if the US pool has natural talent and athleticism, but needs better technical coaching to elevate and become better pros. (As opposed to the US not having or best athletes playing soccer).

Many of us thought that the lack of good coaching at the early teenage level was hurting the US, but maybe it's the later teenage years that's been lacking. I've long thought the university and scholarship system was totally wrong for developing and national team, and this looks like another data point to confirm that view. The growth of better academies here will fuel the USMNT though both domestic leagues as well as quality players going abroad at the U17 level.

32 | WHAT A GOAL

@DuaneHolmes receives applause from the Derby and Spurs fans for his rocket into the top right corner from 20 yards!

not a great half from Pulisic but not  bad either.  Barkley is invisible on the other side so if there is a sub, it may be Barkley first.
