US Men's National Team (8 Viewers)

How concerned should we be that Weston has not played even a second in preseason yet?  I can't find any info that he is hurt.
Allegri said something like....he's an important player. Will return to training tomorrow and will be able to play on Saturday (vs RM).

Not sure what he's returning from. And "be able to play" doesn't mean that he will

This has got me scratching my head as well.

Surprised Crystal Palace hasn't announced the signing of USMNT CB Chris Richards from Bayern Munich yet. Deal long agreed/medical done/paperwork signed Friday. Was assuming the announcement was coming yesterday, but alas, nothing yet.

We need this Chris Richards signing to fall into place. Making me nervous.
Just read Crystal Palace  confirmed the sale

Sounding like Matthew Hoppe is getting a move. Rumors are permanent with a likely destination of Middlesbrough.

I'm sure Teesside will be a welcome change from Mallorca  :oldunsure:

In all seriousness, if a move to Northeast England results in extensive playing time, he needs to make that happen. He played 131 minutes last season for Mallorca. Total catastrophe.

Balogun was having a hard time getting PT...I don't know Hoppe will do any better.

Assuming Dortmund ever take the training wheels off of Gio before the WC, it appears that Gio and Richards are in the best positions to be the players who had no effect on World Cup Qualifying and then possibly be starters in Qatar...

I am not 100% but I think this is the guy that has been responsible for recommending American's.

Borussia Dortmund has sacked head scout Markus Pilawa with immediate effect.

Balogun had 18 appearances in half a season for Boro. I think the bigger issue is he only scored 3 times.

Boro only scored 59 goals in a 46 match season and all their strikers have pretty miserable xG/90 so my guess is they don't create a lot of quality chances. But otherwise they appear to be a pretty good side.

Makes me think this could be a good move as they appear to be crying out for anyone that can put it in the back of the net. Hoppe may not be that guy but he'll get a shot to prove that.

Transfermarkt shows him as Chief Scout since 2017 (he has been at BVB since 2012)

But I don't think he was sacked. He's going to Bayern.

I think it is semantics, but it looks like he was immediately fired when he said he was talking to Bayern

I am sure Dortmund were bitter
You'd think by now they'd be over the bitterness. Bayern take whomever they want from any of the other German clubs. I think it's codified in German law now.

Interestingly,  Bayern saved Dortmund from bankruptcy back in the early 2000's.

This has never happened in England where the rich teams let the poor teams just go under.  Bayern ended up giving Dortmund an interest free loan which allowed them to pay their players and get through the season with out having to shut down the club.

I am sure it was not a totally selfish act though as I am sure Bayern knew that if Dortmund could turn things around, it would be better for the league as a whole (which as we know it is now 20 years later).

Jozy had a massive melt down the other day on the bench which caused the below to happen.  I do not know the details of why he lost his ####.

[Romano] New England Revolution striker Jozy Altidore is headed to Liga MX side Puebla. Deal at final stages, set to be completed. U.S. international agreed to terms on a loan deal Wednesday with the Mexican club that will expire Dec. 31 of this year

US U17 starlet Cruz Medina (he is only 15) got his first minutes for San Jose last night against Celta Vigo.  This kid has amazing feet.  Great dribbler of the ball.

He won the golden ball for the U15 league of MLS Next as the best player in the league.  San Jose signed him this summer to a home grown contract.
Hard to judge a 15 year old because there is so much development to go. But if Medina passes Tsakiris (a 2006 that looked decent for the U20s playing up 2 years) at SJ, well, then we have a pretty good idea of the talent level.

Here's an all touch video of Tsakiris from the Quakes game vs Celta. Just a friendly, but note that Tsakiris is 17 years old.

He's like a young left-footed LDT. He's actually quite a bit bigger but needs to fill out. I liked him in the U20s even if he didn't really stand out. I'm more intrigued by him watching this because you can see he naturally belongs further up the pitch.

That said, he still only has played like 45 MLS minutes for SJ season to date so they don't think he's quite ready.

tons and tons of real games this weekend for the ever growing throng aboard.  52 players in total have competitive games of some capacity this weekend.   With a number this size we are likely to range from full 90 minutes, to not even dressing and everything in between...

And so starts the injury watch  :sadbanana:

Hoping Richie can stay healthy. He's a guy who could make some noise by November.

@BrianSciaretta

Rangers defeat Livingston 2-1 in the opener weekend. 3 American play and all do well - Malik Tillman played the 2nd half and was very dangerous - James Sands was steady the final 23 minutes at CB - Scott Pittman went 90 for Livingston, fought hard but his team was overmatched

======

Sciaretta further posted that Tillman may not be eligible for the Olympics due to a game he played for Germany as a youth player.

Matthew Doyle

@MattDoyle76

Watching Josh Sargent, who was maybe the most polished youth 9 I’ve ever seen come through the USYNT pipeline, go to Europe and develop into a low-usage defensive winger hurts my heart

I was checking up on Bale last night.

He is not starting yet for LAFC.  3 straight second half sub appearances.   Cherundolo after the game indicated he is about at a 45 minutes fitness level.

Cher has the ridiculous luxury of not having to rush Bale at all since they have the best team in the league already with out him.

Gio involved in the first goal too!

Slid over to right and accepted a pass in the box, glided past one defender and put in a low cross.  Shot was saved but rebound was scored.

23 minutes in and Gio looks smooth as silk!

Running the show from his 8, beating players when needed and playing clean through balls.  Gio has already drawn 3 fouls too.

He just had a beautiful move through the middle combining with players, beating two on his own and just missing wide with his shot.  Drew the biggest cheers of the night from the training ground crowd.

He is so damn good.  Please stay healthy!

They made 1 sub before the half and three at halftime including the GK. Makes sense to ease him back.

he looked really good for his first game back.  It is probably going to be a long while before he gets Bundesliga minutes but he just needs to prove he can stay healthy to earn the time.  He is not going to need to prove anything on the field.  Even with Morey, Can, Brandt and Hazard all playing today, Reyna was the clear stud on the field.

[Tom Bogert] Sources: Charlotte FC indeed have an offer out for Welsh national team star Aaron Ramsey. Daily Mail reports Ramsey is choosing between Charlotte and Nice. Ramsey, 31, is a free agent after leaving Juventus

English Championship is one of most physical leagues in world. Daryl Dike rag-dolling defenders. Hoping Gregg is watching
