Couple things, maybe an opportunity for Turner?

Matt Turner may get an opportunity in the next game.

@BenDinnery

Aaron Ramsdale will be assessed... 'I think he felt something, I don’t know what exactly. He managed to finish the game but he’s another we’ll have to assess.' The goalkeeper appeared to have a problem with his hamstring. Thomas Partey will also 'be out for a while'. #AFC

And a sliver of hope for Pulisic?

#nufc latest - Ashby talks on, club like Tielemans. Loan moves also discussed with Gallagher and Pulisic mentioned. Far from easy with top clubs wary of #nufc form. Latest on

And done! This is as good an outcome as we could have hoped for.

==========================

[Fabrizio Romano] Sergiño Dest to AC Milan, here we go and confirmed! Full agreement, loan with buy option around €20m not mandatory. Dest will sign until June 2027, one year loan plus potential four year deal. #ACMilan Dest will fly to Milano on Wednesday morning to sign contracts.

Milan right back - Florenzi - was just injured yesterday and apparently will be out for an extended period.

Florenzi doesn't start because of Calabria there. Florenzi was brought in as a sudo RW and Right/LB coverage. Dest will definitely start with the condensed schedule with the World Cup in Nov. He won't start on Saturday during the Derby and Pioli doesn't usually give new signings that first match but he could come off the bench I think given the injuries and rotations

NBC reporting Chelsea won't let Pulisic go to Newcastle unless they have a replacement. Rumors that Chelsea offering Depay a 1 year contract. Maybe they both happen. Certainly if Chelsea gets Depay you would hope they deal Pulisic, or else he'll be completely buried on the depth chart.

but why oh why. f-ing meelahn. ugh.
yeah. this is going to be to rough.

@DJackson10

American owners, will play a ton of matches, and financially it's a safer bet. he turned down inter who are going through financial turmoil with the Chinese owners as right now Chinese business out of country hard to get money through. Chinese Government have implemented newer rules on foreign spending by businesses There's been talk about Inter may have to sell the club. There's a reason they keep selling some of their best players and why Lukaku was originally sold. Our owners at Milan especially our new Owners already said the Stadium project is continuing without Inter adding another blow to Inter.

TRANSLATION for those none Italian Speaking people: Many have asked for it: Milan had given up Ziyech 20 days ago. Surely the redemption of Messias and the few ( o zero) offers for Saelemaekers influenced. Dest will lend a hand not only as a full-back but also as a tall winger

how does tall translate back to Italian soccer? Is it what we call a wide player?

Are we fearful that with Chelsea signing Auba, that Havertz may cut into what little sub minutes Pulisic has?
Absolutely. Last year, Christian got as much game time as Werner and Ziyech. Essentially the 3 of them were starting/sitting based on form/injury/etc. Mount and Havertz were the favored starters when healthy.

Now Chelsea has brought in two players who'll be the presumed first choices at their positions in Sterling and Auba. That means that the 3rd attacking position in Tuchel's offense will be between Mount and Havertz first, followed by CP and Ziyech. The fact that Ziyech started the last game when they switched to a back 4 means CP is realistically the 6th attacking choice for Tuchel right now. Not a good spot for him to be in. He's only had 130 minutes in the first month of the season despite being healthy through that whole stretch. Sure he'll get more minutes as the schedule tightens, but he's not likely to get enough minutes to play himself into top form.

Bad situation going into the WC for sure.

Probably suppose to be I copied the tweet from Google translate. I think he meant Wide though. Probably messed up the tweet

I could see him being moved in January on Loan. Not ideal but unless Chelsea get a good amount of injuries he's probably be phased out of the squad.

and in 3 weeks, Tuchel will be complaining that he needs reinforcements :)

Chelsea have spent more in this transfer window than any team in Premier League history (£254m)

USMNT Only@usmntonly

Gregg Berhalter names Jesus Ferreira, Ricardo Pepi, Jordan Pefok, Brandon Vazquez, Haji Wright and Josh Sargent as the 6 strikers competing for spots on the plane to Qatar for the USMNT at the World Cup.
  • Ferreira seems like a lock.
  • I'd imagine that Pepi is probably out of the equation right now.
  • Pefok is clearly doing it at a level higher than Sargent or Haji or Vasquez.
  • And IMO Sargent adds something a little bit different than Haji and Vasquez (or Jesus and Pefok). With Norwich/the Championship being probably the best of the three teams/leagues here in any event.
Does that add up to Jesus and Pefok and Sarge if we take three? Weird how all of a sudden we're going to have one or two 9s playing well and not making the plane.

Level or not, Pefok is a really poor fit for Berhalter's tactics. He excels as a target man and lacks the pressing work ethic to lead the line. His poor fit and Berhalter's inability to alter tactics with any success suggest he's not really in the equation, much like a John Brooks.

Haji intrigues me and Sargent is built for Berhalter's tactics and I think if I can only call two, it's these two (along with Jesus). Vasquez deserved a call over the summer but I think since that didn't happen and others stepped up too, he's likely the odd man out.

I bet we still bring one lump-it-in-and-pray type target guy though. Jesus as a false-ish 9, Sargent as a scrappy dirty work guy and then someone you can ping balls into if you're chasing a goal late in a game. Plus whoever you want to stick there off the wing if we need a 4th CF for some reason.

With Ream matching up with Kane today, I wonder if we can read something into GGG instead choosing to watch the Old Firm game in person....

Pre...I haven't seen the hold up play, tbh. But I'm not watching him every week either. The little I've seen of both, I give Haji the edge in that. And Vazquez...again, limited viewing for me- looks like he could be even better.

Watching Jesus yesterday, he does a nice job dropping to receive balls at MF to hold/play to runners, and then turning and busting forward to get in good spots in the box. He scored one, but there was an own goal that was created on just that type of play- Jesus was just beyond the defender to tap the ball in after starting it up from the MF stripe.

I guess I need to watch Sarge again. Scoring fixes all things for forwards...but I do think his upside is limited relative to the other guys, even if I'm still a fan of all the things he does well.

Hold up play isn't really his thing but I don't think it's a part of Berhalter's tactics. He doesn't want to sit deep and knock it forward. He wants a pressing forward that will run his boots off, be a constant nuisance, and combine with the wings. He's been pretty blatant in copying Klopp -- 433, extremely high line, fullbacks bombing forward, preferring hard hat midfielders to creative types, and a high press.

So I think Berhalter is looking for a Gabriel Jesus or Roberto Firmino type that does the dirty work and is okay not being the focal point. Sargent is an elite pressing forward, his problem has been a lack of any sort of end-product. But if he solves that, he fits.

That's a damn good summary.

And the whole things falls apart if you don't have a front three who can press as a unit or a pair of 8s who are a pain in the *** to play against. McKennie and Musah are pretty much the platonic ideal -- muscular, full of running, and safe on the ball in traffic.

Plugging in a more static target man (Pefok) or being forced to start more 10ish players (like Elliott and Carvahlo) somehow unravels a lot of what makes the system work. It's hard to figure out why when you watch, but it's easy to see that the whole unit just isn't operating at a high level anymore.
