US Men's National Team (36 Viewers)

Hajduk Split has announced they will not release Rokas Pukstas for the Olympics. I'm guessing this means he's on the move but they've been pretty stingy releasing him for any window they don't have to do so so maybe they are just being dicks. His father ran the Marathon in the Olympics so I imagine he'd be pretty keen on going.
Is he cap tied? Starting to lose some decent players.
no, he is not capped tied. He is youth capped tied to the US but he can still use his one time switch if he wants.

I think he is only eligible for US or Lithuania.

FC Barcelona and PSV Eindhoven announce they have reached an agreement for the transfer of USMNT’s Sergiño Dest to the Dutch club following his loan. Barcelona reserves a percentage of a future transfer.
Probably the best he could have hoped for at this point. At least he'll be playing and in a league that suits his strengths/weaknesses.

Happy for Dest. PSV suits him well and has been great for his USMNT development/confidence. Plus he'll probably be getting real CL minutes every year.

Sources: Chelsea in advanced talks to sign U.S. int'l left back Caleb Wiley from Atlanta United.Nothing is agreed or done yet. Wiley, 19, already has 81 first team apps with Atlanta, 2 caps with USMNT.
I'm at a point where if I see Chelsea connected, I'm immediately disappointed for the player.
For me it is not Chelsea as much as any of the Super clubs that buy a million young players hoping for a lottery ticket in 1 out of 50 of the kids. I never even get excited any more when a young US player is signed by a big club. Kind of sad in a way...

I'm assuming Wiley would head to Strasbourg though? If so, it wouldn't be a terrible spot for him to develop further.

yeah I am fine with the loans.

What I was more trying to say was that in the past, a big team showing interest in a young US player was exciting, but now because of the loan armies, it really does not mean all that much.

And I have to imagine wherever Swag goes, he'll be making less than he would have if they'd accepted terms with Villa.
he has a tough choice.

My guess is that if he does not get what he wants, he will turn down the transfer but I also have a feeling Juventus may be playing hard ball with him and threaten to bury him this season if he does not accept.

Swag to TSO seems to have some vespa legs
What is TSO? Is this the Spurs rumor?
TSO = The Special One = Fener, right?
Oh ok thanks. Yeah that rumor has been floating for a couple of days now.

The Spurs rumor is new.

Thanks- missed that.
I thought the issue was Swags desired wages more than his transfer fee... "Taking a punt on him" because of the low fee doesn't make sense if they can't or don't want to pay his wages.

he did very little to support his case to be paid more if any scouts were at Copa America.

Torpedoed his and juves transfer market.

Did Wes register a shot on goal this tournament? I know that's not his main role as a #8, but if he wasn't winning duels then at least he should shoot.

Let me just say - that is not really a link to Tottenham.

Here is the quote in the article from a non-Spurs insider:

“So that sort of price tag, it could be something that they look at.”

Kind of lazy journalism because Spurs had been looking to bring in Gallagher as a HG player in a similar position - so I think it's just media links trying to drum up clicks. Spurs are already bringing in two new CMs this summer - Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, and are already up against some tight HG restrictions - so I can't see Spurs wasting one of those spots on a player like McKennie.

I think he must be like Johnny, where the position makes it difficult for him to show/pop on TV, with a lot of work done off-screen.

That would a big move for Tessman- hoping it works out well for him and my Inter.

Speaking of team progression: Lalas when asked if anyone from the '94 team could start today

Sure, plenty. Wynalda (better than Balogun), Ramos (better than Weah), Reyna (better than Reyna), Meola (better than Turner), Balboa (better than Richards), Dooley (better than McKennie)…to start. #USMNT 🇺🇸⚽

Agree with all of those, unfortunately. Balboa and Dooley more iffy for me, but not out of the question.

I am glad he is getting at least one more year to develop before going to Inter where he is very likely to not see much time.

I have never been a big fan of his game but he produced all season for Venezia. I am very interested to see how he plays in the Olympics (if he is on the team) and of course how he does in the big step up from Serie B to Serie A in Italy.

Friedel and Meola probably both start over Turner.

Friedel, Meola, Keller and Howard would all start over Turner.

Sure but Lalas was just asked about the players on the ‘94 team.

Oh my bad.

In that case if we are talking about players from only that exact time frame, Friedel would not start imo. He was not even a pro at that time and had never even signed with a pro team, much less played a game. He had nothing but college experience. He did not play in his first pro game until 1995.

Meola was not a true pro yet either but he had built up a ton of international games going back to the late 80's.

Nashville SC announces the hiring of USMNT assistant BJ Callaghan as head coach. This was finalized long before Copa America. Same with US keepers coach Fabian Otte going to Liverpool.

ETA: Berhalter ran him off because he was afraid Callaghan would take his job. You heard it here first.

Did not have "Spicy Rivalry on Both Borders" on my Bingo card, but here we are. So bummed we don't play Canada anytime soon.

Get run out of England and end up jobless, score 1 goal in the COPA but advance because two of your opponents took red cards, and you feel comfortable talking ****? Swings and roundabouts Jess.

I would not have taken that tactic by Jesse. I assume he feels like the hiring process may have been a complete sham but you simply say “I have enough to worry about with my current job” and stay the **** out of it.
I am not so sure. He may feel hard done by the process and simply shed some light on the farce at the top of US Soccer, knowing that he is never going to be in their inner circle.

My position is that Berhalter is a problem, but he is not the biggest problem.

American Outlaws (who I didnt realize had been totally neutered by US Soccer over the past few years...apparently their chants need to approved and they were trying to stop people from chanting "Fire Greg" during the game on Sunday. LAME) came out officially in favor of Greg being fired.

STILL dont think its gonna happen.

Any updates on Balo and Scally injuries?

Both guys did themselves well here.

Scally showed hes a capable RB (and I'm guessing LB) replacement, despite the drop from the starters to him.

Balo.. finally seemed to link up with teammates, and even did well with his target/hold up play. Feels like they're just starting figure out how to use him- whether that's a tactical or familiarity thing, I'm not sure. Seemed like they were finding him through the middle more and not just hoping he'd get on the end of a cross. would be interesting for somebody to break down how exactly that started to work.
