I listened in the BVB game... Didn't sound like Gio was super busy (didn't hear his name called a lot), but when he was it seemed he provided some danger. Switched over to Milan after Gios subbed out. mussh was playing as a holding MF when I switched over, so also not a lot of action.

I watched parts of the BVB game. Gio still has the dangerous passing, but it's been a REALLY long time since I've seen him look very dangerous dribbling the ball. Early in his career, the reason I thought he could end up better than Pulisic was that he was able to dribble through heavy traffic without getting pushed off the ball. Not that he's played a ton the past few years, but when he does play, I rarely see him try that type of dribbling anymore.
On the bright side, two games ago (when he came in as a sub), Dortmund had him take at least one corner kick while he was in the game.

The danger id hear in the game was from his crossing/passing, fwiw. Don't think I heard his name called about dribbling by somebody.

Dribbling is arguably the skill that takes the most confidence to perform.
When Gio was young, he was overflowing in confidence which allowed his high talent to carry him to a quality level that few 17/18 year olds achieve.
But between the injuries and the WC fiasco he clearly lost his edge and confidence. I don't know how long or if ever, he will be able to get it back.

Matai's younger brother Mikel is at Man City for a trial right now (note that some people confuse trials and training when reporting so I am not really sure which it is).

US based posters understandably jumping in with Reyna chat after his first start of the season for BVB. Don’t think he did a lot wrong but was quiet. Kicker’s 3.5 (average kind of mark) hard to disagree with. His problem is when Brandt is fit, he’s almost always going to get picked ahead of him.
With Gittens & Beier offering pace out wide, it doesn’t leave many starting options for Reyna under normal circumstances. Nmecha has become the legs along with Sabitzer while Brandt is creator. But with Schlotterbeck & Anton out, leaving Can having to play at the back, chances maybe this week/next.

It's so rare when players actually improve on the aspects that have held them back when they're already a "mature" player, so it's a trip to see Jedi become a competent crosser of the ball. There's really nothing left anymore to keep from concluding that he's a world class left back now. And maybe that label means a bit less now. We don't have a Marcelo, much less a Roberto Carlos or Maldini now. But he's as good as Andy Robertson and more consistent than a guy like Fonzie (who still feels like a left wing slumming it as a fullback most of the time). He's not really bad at anything anymore and his engine is elite. I don't think I've ever seen an "American" player improve as much as he has.

I was always a fan, but always consistently laughed at his shortcomings- especially the zardozed clangy touch.
But you're totally right- week in, the guy is doing things on the ball that's at a very high level. I mean, he's no dest or cp in terms of his touch, but he doesn't have to be with how good he's gotten with it...and added to his absolutely elite motor and pace, he's made himself an elite LB.

His second assist was just sick in every sense of the word. He plays the first quick one touch ball to initiate the attack and then some how gets on the end of the play to make the assist.

Jedi is now tied for 3rd in assists across the entire EPL. The only players in front of him are Salah and Saka.

And if not for both the Fulham CBs completely shutting off in the 85rh, they would have had the win at Anfield.
There was a play around then when Salah got free on top of the box dribbling in for a shot and Jedi shut him down and stripped the ball away. And even past the 90 he was making end to end runs forward to try to get back the winner.
Poch has to be salivating watching him.

He also turned 22 in November meaning he basically has a full season before he ages out of this.
But I'm not following the stat. Pulisic scored 13 Bundesliga goals by age 20. He moved to Chelsea and then scored another 13 goals in the EPL before 23. Is it just the most in one single league?

seems like De Jongs goals have been drying up lately. He does more than score goals, but maybe Pepi will be getting more opportunities now that they've been dropping points.

This is probably Jedi's last chance to join a top 10ish level team in the world. It will all come down to what fee Fulham want. With Jedi's incredible fitness level, I think he is going to be a top left back for about 3-4 more years (until 30-31 ish) which would be perfect for him for one big contract with a top team.

*A very solid back up keeper, and maybe one that can push Turner for the #1 spot
*A back up LB
*Any defensive solid CB's that can also distribute to hopefully phase out Ream
*A number 9 as with Sargent and a Balogun following the tried and true American path of "show well for club and immediately get long term injury", we are going to need more depth here. We are one Pepi injury away from a WTF situation at the 9.
