US Men's National Team (35 Viewers)

In the entire history of U17 games in Concacaf, the most goals scored in a game by one team was 12. The US beat that by 10 goals tonight.

I know there is not much they can do given the ridiculous nature of giving Concacaf 8 teams to qualify but this type of mismatch helps no one.
Chase Adams putting a strong challenge in for Golden Boot (he had 10 goals tonight.....no seriously)
Has to be a record... Hopefully a record. That's ridiculous.

I guess it's good the kids got a run in together against other kids- chance to release the hounds and find/build some working on field relationships. But yeesh.
The previous record was 5. He had that at half.

Lol. I think he had more like 6 or 7.

This format is the worst. Normally teams like USVI wouldn't even make the tournament. It's completely ridiculous.

We're doing this every year now so I hope CONCACAF revisit the format. We had problems getting players to come this year (Hall, Berchimas, Stokes, James, Sullivan, Albert are probably all starters if they had shown). None of our top talents will show next year if the games continue like this.

US vs St Kitts tonight u17
Well, that was a lot closer.

Squeaked by, 7-0.
That's because we put in the scrubs. 9 new starters
There have already been 13 games in qualification with a GD of 5 or more.

Cuba beat VIR last night 6-3. Seemed like a weird game though. of the 9 goals, 4 were scored in injury time.

US needs a draw on Saturday against Cuba to qualify for the WC.
I assume they'll run their 1st team out until it gets decided, and then hopefully get the rest of them in rather than let guys like Adams run up his goal count in the 2nd half.

and looks like a new player got a bucket of goals last night.

But for now, he seems to have tapped into getting them to play with more intensity and old school US grit.

It's not like he can develop new players or do much to keep the existing ones healthy, so for me it's about fostering that attitude as well as putting players out there in a position to succeed- including the 9. Seems like his overloading and inverting players has given the US better opportunities to score and impose pressure among the opposing goal. For now, I'm all in.

The sample size is small but I am also encouraged. I very much have enjoyed the style of play. Whether it will work against a upper mid tier team like Mexico will be interesting to watch.

In terms of the next coach, it is impossible to guess. I don't think any one would have guessed Poch two years ago. Knowing who will be available is crystal ball type of stuff.

I am not sure Poch is "all in" ....

This is from a Spurs ITK - fairly reliable, but not infallible:

For those of you who are Ange out… if or when he’s gone, it’s confirmed Poch is ready to jump back in the hot seat and would be back like a shot if offered the job. 👍🏽

There are also a lot of rumors circulating about a sale to Qatari investors - so it could simply be a lot of speculation around any new manager this summer.

You think he'd leave the US a year plus out from hosting the WC? Huh.

Cardoso on the bench for Real Betis today. I had kind of lost track of whether he was injured or not...so I guess this is good news from my point of view.

I just saw him start and play 90 over the weekend. Maybe getting a rest in Europe to concentrate on the league.

Another indication that Weston should be losing his parking spot any day now

Thiago Motta: "Weston is special, he is a great player, a great guy. He has played fullback, holding midfielder, attacking midfielder, winger. He's a top-level player. When I say that a top-level player can play everywhere, it’s because I know what I’m talking about. I’ve been in football for many years. When you ask where players should play, it’s not something that concerns me.Weston plays everywhere, and he has to be on the field. It’s hard for me to leave him out. Maybe not as a goalkeeper, but in every other position, it’s difficult to put him on the bench. That’s what being a top-level player means.”

US vs Cuba time change. A US draw and they qualify for the WC

The #U17MNT v Cuba will now kick off at 8:30 pm ET

Unfortunately it's on fox soccer plus
US in complete domination so far but goals are not coming easily, they are up 2-0 in first half.

Edit: game finished 2-0. A combination of terrible finishing and some really good goalkeeping by Cuba made the score significantly closer than the game was played.

US advances to World Cup. Hopefully Cavan, Albert, Berchimas, Hall and all the other top players that were missing will play in the WC.

Overall we easily dominated but our wing play was pretty bad throughout. Jamie Johnson looks really good on set pieces (his corners are awesome) and was hit or miss but otherwise, the group was pretty unimpressive. Everything went through Carrizo.

That said, it's not entirely surprising since the two best wings in this class are Berchimas and Hall and neither are there. And Mathis Albert is a year younger but would obviously start on this side. And of course you could play Cavan Sullivan on the wing.

Not sure who will play at the U17 World Cup and if we have our best, I'm not worried about it at all - these are our best players. But I think we will struggle to create against top sides without some sort of wing play.

Tessmann starting again today for Lyon along with Matic in the base of a 4231. I forgot they made a manager change 3 games ago and apparently Fonseca is more keen on Tessmann.

The guy finally gets to Europe, instantly gets into the starting lineup and plays well for multiple games and then realizes he is American :(

James Sands was injured in stoppage time of St. Pauli’s game against Freiburg - an ankle injury.

I’ve heard it’s not good. He’s going to be missing a lot of time.
Surgery today. Apparently he fractured his fibula and tore his MCL.

Yuck. Was it going in on a tackle, or getting tackled himself. Worse if it's without contact.

Another start for Johnny today.

With Tessman and Johnny's minutes increasing now, we are in great shape at DM as long as Adams stays healthy. Even Morris is back to full health and playing a ton of minutes.

DM may be our deepest position for the March games if we can have some injury avoidance.

Taylor Booth subbed in at 78' yesterday in his first appearance for FC Twente and was credited with an assist at 83'. Not really clear if it was an intentional pass or a bad first touch, but I'll take it. In the past two years he's gone from rumored interest from some of the top clubs in the world, to a loan to a mid-tier Dutch team...hopefully this is the start of turning that around.

Who gets the 5th Champions slot next year or do we not know that until this years European competition is done?

Figured I’d give Gemini a spin:

The Premier League is currently in pole position to secure the 5th Champions League spot for the 2025/26 season.

This is based on UEFA's coefficient rankings, which take into account the performance of a league's clubs in European competitions over the past five seasons. The two leagues with the highest coefficient scores at the end of the current season will each be awarded an extra spot in the following season's Champions League.

Current Scenarios:
* Premier League: With seven clubs still involved in European competition (including Chelsea in the Conference League, and Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League), the Premier League has a very high chance (around 99.5% according to Opta) of finishing in the top two of the coefficient rankings.
* Serie A: Serie A is currently in second place in the coefficient rankings, also with seven clubs still competing in European competitions. They have a 66.9% chance of securing an additional Champions League spot.
* Bundesliga: The Bundesliga is also in contention, with all eight of their European contenders still in the running. Good results from teams like Bayer Leverkusen are helping their cause.

How it Works:
The coefficient rankings are calculated based on the performance of a league's clubs in the Champions League, Europa League, and Europa Conference League. Points are awarded for wins, draws, and reaching certain stages of the competitions. The total points earned by a league's clubs are then divided by the number of clubs that participated in European competition.
The two leagues with the highest average coefficient scores at the end of the season will be awarded an extra spot in the following season's Champions League.

Important Note: The situation can still change as the European competitions progress. The final standings of the coefficient rankings will determine which leagues get the extra Champions League spots.
