US Men's National Team (28 Viewers)

This is a very limited roster. Haji is hurt. Johnny is hurt (or has removed himself to complete his transfer). White and Harriel appear to be unplayable. Brady, Downs, Paxten Aaronson, and Sullivan as the kids on the roster are here to gain experience (first call ups for all). That leaves 18 guys which is paper thin.

I wouldn't expect a lot of changes or subs. Our bench is essentially Brendan Aaronson, McGlynn, Tolkin, McKenzie, Zimmerman, Miles Robinson, and Turner. Assuming we are not going to sub CBs or GKs, that leaves 3 players and the kids. That's shockingly awful options for knockout stages.
I don’t see why he wouldn’t use the kids. They’re playing at a reasonably high level against the same competition as many of the older guys for their regular teams.
Agree on the last part.

The windows for NT are short so these guys have only had a few weeks of training into a different system. Some guys pick it up faster than others but most struggle their first camp with the senior team - though this is admittedly a long camp.

Diego Luna on the USMNT vs Mexico rivalry:

"When I was little, we would always have people come over and watch the game. The rivalry is a big thing, and I would always have my USA jersey on. I would cry when Mexico scored on us and I would tear up, and I was going around telling people to stop cheering - because half my family would cheer for Mexico and half my family cheered for USA. Then as I grew older, I started to realize I am Mexican, I speak Spanish, my parents are from Mexico. I started to put it into perspective - I have respect and I love Mexico and I love being Mexican, but I grew up in the United States. I think that's something that you need to be proud of. Ever since I was born here in the US, I was raised here. It gave me what I have now. It got me to where I'm at now. And I think that's a big thing you need to take into perspective - I was born and raised in the United States, so it's only right to play for the country that they raised me to who I am."

Hmmmm….

Damion Downs to Southampton is considered a done deal as a full agreement has been reached with FC Köln. The transfer fee is €8M, but could exceed to €10M with add ons. The contract will be up until 2029 and Downs medical is scheduled after the Gold Cup

this could be a big move for next cycle

OFFICIAL: Julian Eyestone has signed a new contract with Brentford until summer of 2031 with a club option of extending the deal further. He has also been promoted to the first team.

I get the late subs....only because I'm hoping poch knew we were on the back foot. Maybe hold off for as long as possible and have fresh legs for the final 10-15 to just keep the ball away from the final 3rd. Maybe.

Doesn't explain waiting so long on Agy. If you knew you were going to take him out, give someone a good 30-40 minutes to get going.
I think his issue was the entire MF was more gassed than Agy and you don't really have 3 MFs to go like for like, so at some point if you are making 3 MF subs you will run into that problem.

I think the bigger issue was the order (McGlynn probably should have been on for Luna instead of Tolkin) and not getting Downs on 5-10 minutes earlier. Once Downs was on, he put enough pressure on the backline with Aaronson and MvGlynn that it relieved some of the pressure on the defense since they weren't hitting as many good balls.

So it sounds like the Championship in England will determine who the 3rd US striker is at the WC next summer

Haji, Downs, Sargent and Agy all look like they will be playing in the Championship this season, pending further moves of course.

This is an interesting piece on highlighting three players who are out of favor for various reasons and how they could be a good buy for low money. Balogun is one of the three players highlighted. Lots of stats and videos included breaking down his game and why things have gone off the rails for him

Good analysis of Balo.. stuff I saw, and much more.

Jonathan David has passed his physical at Juventus.

He will be announced shortly as a new teammate of Weston and Weah’s.

Game is sold out tonight, @72k. US fans can proudly claim maybe 1% of that total...
Not feeling jumpy&quo. Mex haven't been great, but theyre organized and have plenty of quality to TCB.

This US side...cant say theyre organized, and dont have plenty of quality. they'll need the CBs and GK to stand on their heads and have somebody step up the way Luna did last game against a lesser team than Mex.

I think Adams will have to be immense tonight. One of those games where he just sniffs everything out. If Jimenez consistently gets service and if the Mexican wings can consistently get our FBs one on one, I think it's a long night. But nobody knows anything. Football, bloody hell.

So we have mostly not our typical starters in the is tourney, what about Mexico? Is this their A team or a B team for them as well tonight?

Such was his last game vs Guat that i completely forgot about Adms. Yeah- they meed him to cut out that central service. And yeah, those FBs meed to not be awful again or yeah, doesnt matter what Adams does, as theyll just go around him.

Back to winning no 2nd balls.

Th shape is getting stretched...guys are pinching into the middle and leaving room wide, where Mex is keeping guys on bith flanks. It was working before keeping things a little wider...but now, not sure whats going on.

face save. Ugh

Mexico so much better but that was expected.

Looks like they got themselves a good one in Mora. High IQ on that kid.

I thought Freeman and Arfsten did a great job defensively under constant pressure. I am not sure LDLT has the fight needed in a game like this but the bench is empty of talent.
