US Men's National Team (11 Viewers)

Adams with a 4.9 rating on FotMob. Ungood. Did anyone watch?
They got spanked. But yeah, thats a disgraceful number
I tried to look at his stats to figure out why they created such a poor rating.

Ironically, he had the best passer rating for any player in the entire game who played more than 25 minutes (granted he does not make difficult passes but it at least shows he was not giving the ball away like a mad man).

The only number that stood out as terrible, especially for Adams, was in ground duels which he only won 2 out of 8.

Looks like this could be Trusty's one key moment to shine in the November friendlies if he wants to make the roster next summer.

He picked up his 3rd straight Man of the Match award this weekend, something REALLY rare for a CB to do on any team. Lets hope this can translate quickly for Poch and the Nats.

Adams, McKennie, Richards, Jedi, Pulisic, Weah and Tillman all missing for upcoming games.

Good thing it is not any important players :(
Down to 4/11 positions where our likely starters will be there. :(

Balogun and Freese look like they have locked up the starter spot at their positions.

We need to see how Poch treats Dest but IMO he should be a starter when healthy.

who is your 4th likely starter that is available? I assume one of the CBs, maybe Ream?

=========

It would not shock me if Roldan gets the start in both games in this camp.

I was thinking Ream too.

And i watched PSV over the weekend again. Teams go at Dest relentlessly. Hes just not a good defender, and in a league where defending is already not good.

Tbf, they lack the ability to provide cover as a team, so I've watched him routinely with an overload of 2 guys on his side and him having to choose who to cover in a losing battle...so that doesnt help.

But I've also watched him halfass getting back or into good space/shape far too many times for PSV because he clearly doesnt need to in games that end up with scorelines that are often like 6-2.

if Pochs sticks with the 3-4-2-1, Dest's defensive responsibilities should be less than in a back 4. The 2 holding midfielders and the 3 CB's cover a lot of room.

Fwiw..

U17s tomorrow vs Czech Rep (who looked quite good on highlight reel footage...big #9 who will give US problems)

9:45 a.m. ET on FS2, Universo, Peacock
First twenty minutes has leaned towards the CR. But the US are starting to find the game.

Mathis on bench today as the US did some rotation

Holy crap, what an almost goal by Sullivan. He just lost his footing at the very end of that long long run taking on half the CR defense by himself

so he's supposed to kick the ball on a full run, but then stop his leg from moving forward as soon as he's touched the ball.

idiotic call, VAR or not.

In my opinion, a straight red card has to have intent. There can be no intent when you win the ball first, and then it’s just your damn follow through that kicks the guy in the shins.

That was barely a yellow, but I could’ve lived with the yellow, but to upgrade that to a red is moronic.

By the way, who made the challenge? Was it the US to get the yellow card downgraded or was it CR to get the yellow card upgraded?

He was on a full sprint too...kicked the ball and then expected to immediately cease all follow through and...dunno ..summersault himself instead to counteract his forward motion?! Ignoring all sense.

other U17 info...

Concacaf had a bunch of teams playing: US, CAN, MEX, PAN, ELS, CR, HON, HAI.
US, CAN (see below) and MEX have gone through to the 32 team knockout round... Mex, apparently the last qualifier for knockouts on 3 points and -2 GD.

CAN finished on 4 points tied with all of the other teams in their group: France, Uganda and Chile. Chile is the unlucky 4 point loser, finishing last in the group and ending their WC (despite teams in other groups qualifying on 3 points).

eta; they seed the qualifiers....
The 32 teams that qualify from the group stage will contest the Round of 32 according to the performance ranking after the group stage, following the schedule below:

1st-ranked group winner v 8th-ranked third place
2nd-ranked group winner v 7th-ranked third place
3rd-ranked group winner v 6th-ranked third place
4th-ranked group winner v 5th-ranked third place
5th-ranked group winner v 4th-ranked third place
6th-ranked group winner v 3rd-ranked third place
7th-ranked group winner v 2nd-ranked third place
8th-ranked group winner v 1st-ranked third place
9th-ranked group winner v 12th-ranked runner-up
10th-ranked group winner v 11th-ranked runner-up
11th-ranked group winner v 10th-ranked runner-up
12th-ranked group winner v 9th-ranked runner-up
1st-ranked runner-up v 8th-ranked runner-up
2nd-ranked runner-up v 7th-ranked runner-up
3rd-ranked runner-up v 6th-ranked runner-up
4th-ranked runner-up v 5th-ranked runner-up

  • Teams from the same group shall not meet each other in the Round of 32.
  • If, according to the above pairings, two teams from the same group would face each other in the round of 32 (M73-M84), the team that finished as group winners will instead play against the next possible team from the runners-up or third-place teams (e.g. if the 1st-ranked group winner and the 8th-ranked third-place team are from the same group, the 1st-ranked group winner will meet the 7th-ranked third-place team instead of the 8th-ranked third-place team, and the 2nd-ranked group winner will meet the 8th-ranked third-place team instead of the 7th-ranked third-place team, etc.).
eta2:
The 12 group winners and 12 runners-up (from 1 to 12) The 12 teams finishing first and second shall be ranked according to a general performance ranking from 1 to 12, with 1 representing the highest position and 12 the lowest position among the group winners, according to the following criteria:
a) greatest number of points obtained in all group matches;
b) goal difference resulting from all group matches;
c) greatest number of goals scored in all group matches;
d) highest team conduct score (players and team officials) relating to the number of yellow and red cards obtained in all group matches and calculated as per article 13 paragraph 1 – step 2 f);
e) drawing of lots by FIFA.
