US Men's National Team (10 Viewers)

GOALKEEPERS (4): Roman Celentano (FC Cincinnati; 0/0), Matt Freese (New York City FC; 11/0), Jonathan Klinsmann (Cesena/ITA; 0/0), Patrick Schulte (Columbus Crew; 3/0)

DEFENDERS (9): Max Arfsten (Columbus Crew; 14/1), Sergiño Dest (PSV Eindhoven/NED; 35/2), Alex Freeman (Orlando City; 11/0), Mark McKenzie (Toulouse FC/FRA; 24/0), Tim Ream (Charlotte FC; 78/1), Miles Robinson (FC Cincinnati; 37/3), Joe Scally (Borussia Mönchengladbach/GER; 21/0), John Tolkin (Holstein Kiel/GER; 4/0), Auston Trusty (Celtic/SCO; 4/0)

MIDFIELDERS (7): Tyler Adams (Bournemouth/ENG; 52/2), Sebastian Berhalter (Vancouver Whitecaps/CAN; 7/0), Aidan Morris (Middlesbrough/ENG; 11/0), Gio Reyna (Borussia Mönchengladbach/GER; 32/8), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders; 41/0), Tanner Tessmann (Olympique Lyon/FRA; 10/0), Sean Zawadzki (Columbus Crew; 1/0)

FORWARDS (5): Brenden Aaronson (Leeds United/ENG; 54/9), Folarin Balogun (AS Monaco/FRA; 27/7), Diego Luna (Real Salt Lake; 16/3), Ricardo Pepi (PSV Eindhoven/NED; 33/13), Haji Wright (Coventry City/ENG; 19/7)

So....5 starters? Not quite what I was hoping for, but the only one where there isn't a very clear reason for exclusion is McKennie. And good to see Reyna and Scally back...wasn't really expecting that given their lack of substantial playing time lately.

Disappointed not to see Banks included.

My guy is a lock for the WC roster, but interesting to see him listed as a F.

He has been listed as a midfielder in previous call-ups.

with one of the games in Philly
How did I not realize this? Looks like tickets start at about $75, which isn't terrible. I'll almost definitely go to the game. Anyone else going?
Yea I’m going. Got fairly decent tickets for $90. Not really any awful seats there.
I'm in Section 119 (one end of the field), Row A. Got tickets for about $80 each.
ok, I'm in 131.

Poch said Weston was not chosen because he knows what he brings to the US and is more concerned he stays and impresses new Juventus coach to keep his playing time.

No Banks was a big shock for me especially when Richard’s was not available

Seems odd to have Scally, Dest, Arfsten, Freeman and Tolkin all on the roster at the same time. It seems like 1 too many unless he is looking at Scally as one of the 3 CB's.

Maybe something like this?

================

..........................Freese

...........Miles.........Ream........McKenzie

Dest..............Adams.......Tessman.............Arfsten

........................Luna.............Aaronson

...............................Balogun

Im going to look into heading down...those are decent prices.

Had the exact same thoughts as you on that. But glad to see Scally and Tolkin.

Also...bummer about Banks.

And tbh, weird to see Gio. Hes getting some sub minutes here and there at least for his club, but off the top of my head less than Musah, who sadly and clearly has fallen behind a long line of similar positioned players... including Sebbb dammit. I still think Gios ceiling is higher than Luna and Aaronson- pretty sure competing for same positional spot, but his floor also seems bottomless...so who knows.

Gio, as we always dreamed Gio would be, would look incredible in one of the two spots behind the striker that Poch has been using.

Imagine how nice it could have look with a full potential Gio, next to Pulisic and just behind Balogun...................sigh

Tillman's emergence has made Gio's fall less painful for me. They're very similar players, and I think with everyone healthy (not that that ever happens) they're probably fighting for one position most of the time (although I guess Tillman could have bumped Weah from his theoretical starting role)

Totally agree. Takes the sting out.

Fwiw, Tillman played quite a bit as a LMF for PSV, as well as playing the 10. He definitely could steal Weahs spot on the right.

I think in the 3-4-2-1 Weah is more likely to be used as one of the wide players than either of the two players pinched in below the striker

Yup. Weah seems to play better closer to the sideline. I don't see him cutting into the middle much, he's much more comfortable trying to beat his mark down the sideline. I could see him playing wingback to stretch the defense wide and give more space for the front 3 in a 3-4-2-1.

In the last camp I believe he played the LWB in the 4 midfielder set up so I think Poch sees him as we do. He does not have the technical skill to thrive in the middle IMO.

Albert cross to cavan for the 78th min eventual winner. Nice
My car died so I missed the game today. Was out car shopping instead.

Looks like from the stats Burkino out shot the US by a 2-1 margin but the US had more possession (almost 2-1).

Cavan did not start but from what I read online sounds like he changed the game when he subbed in, even before the goal.
Completely forgot about this.

Wonder if i can catch the replay somewhere
FS2 is replaying it in the middle of the night if you want to record it
Just watched it on Peacock.

BF couldve scored 6 or 7 if they had taken their many opportunities better. The center of the US MF had zero defensive ability- marking, shape, one v one...it was like training cones. Pretty good once they were on the ball..but yeesh. It didnt take much of anything for BF to get into good scoring spots.

US crafted some good attacks too, but also lacked quality on their final ball.

Sullivan didnt impress me, tbh. Looked like a guy almost about to do some good stuff...almost...but never really did outside of the completely unmarked goal.

The best player on the field by a big margin was Albert. even after BF realiazed they needed to provide double or triple help on him, he still looked dangerous off the dribble or pass.

I think it's pretty clear that Sullivan is no longer on the trajectory to be one of the best players in the world. That doesn't mean it can't happen, but that is no longer the trajectory of his current level. 15 months ago he debuted in MLS and was at the stage of "get a few minutes per game off the bench in MLS". That's still basically where he is. A lot of the really great players just keep upping their level every year.

lol Gio gets another shot? I seem to recall reading about Poch favoring current form over historical performance?
It feels like a last and only chance. Him and Scally both.
Gio may be getting a chance simply because we are starting to scrape the barrel. I think had any one of Pulisic, Tillman or Weston been available, Gio would not have been called.

Scally is a little different because both Dest and Freeman were called. I can’t quite figure out that call up outside of what I said earlier in that maybe he is looking at him as one of the 3 CB’s instead of a wide player.

Got this the other day in my Milan club group Patreon WhatsApp chat the other day. It’s a Patreon that sponsors Milan Club Toronto and MTL who do the @official English Version Milan Cast, sponsored by Radio Rossenera.” A few people from around the world know a few players from Milan or other teams. Not like a Messi or Lamal etc but guys if they were in your favorite squad you’d be like I remember them.

“Cole Campbell. You guys ever heard of him? He is u 20 USA player that plays winger for bor dortmund. His mom went to high school with me and said Milan scouts have approached them very recently

She was also once a pro and played for Iceland . Her brother played with me on my club team and my high school team. I just saw her last weekend at my high school reunion. This might be the spark for Milan club Atlanta! Who knows!”

The quotes are throwing me off.

Do we know Campbell? Yes. Dude looked far from ready at the u20 WC.

Is he being linked to Milan..or Atalanta? Hadnt heard that.

Cavan takes and makes a Panenka pk while level at 1-1 in second half against the worst team in the group. It was a choice.
BF beat Czech 2-1... Which doesnt really tell us much since they could have beat the US 7-1
This smells like one of those groups where three teams will be on six points and one team will be on zero points. The US only winning by one against the worst team probably makes them in some trouble. They are likely going to need a draw in the last game to advance

Edit. Some 3rd place teams advance so the US are probably already through

One of the guys in my Patreon app asked if people knew who he was. The Patreon member lives in Atlanta GA. Cole and family have apparently been approached by Milan’s scouting department

Swag gets the start as RMF
Switched centrally as subs came in and went 90+ in the 0-0 draw.

On TV I thought he looked a little snacks old school lazy and lacking influence...but turns out he covered the most ground of all players (12km +/-) and was a brilliant GK save off a header from winning the game late.

Pulisic came on for the last 20 in Milan’s draw with Parma. On one hand, he missed a big chance not long after he came on. On the other hand, the attack looked miles better with him than without. Could have had an assist, and got what looked like a Modric ball intended for him right in front of goal sniped by a teammate.

Cremaschi also subbed in late for Parma in that one. And score 6 goals. Maybe. One of those things is true.

Milan Made an agreement with USMNT to not call Pulisic up this go around. They were not happy how Pooch handled Puli last go around dealing with a knock and playing him against Australia. Several Italian reports have said there are other clubs not happy with how pooch has handled similiar situations either.
