Value Swings if Tush Push is Banned (1 Viewer)

Adam Schefter reported today that he does believe the league will ban the Tush Push next week.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said his guess is that the NFL will ban the tush push during next week’s owners’ meeting.
Schefter didn’t cite any sources directly but reiterated the point later in the latest episode of The Adam Schefter Podcast, saying he “wouldn’t be surprised” if the owners voted to outlaw the play. Losing the free touchdown play would undoubtedly hurt Philly’s offense and Jalen Hurts’ fantasy outlook, but it’s hard to imagine a team with Hurts, an elite offensive line, and Saquon Barkley not finding other ways to get in the end zone from a yard out. If the tush push is banned, it would likely just shuffle some of Hurts’ touchdowns to Barkley. Other teams including the Bills have experimented with similar plays, but no one has found as much success as the Eagles. The owners will also be voting on a change to the playoff seeding rules. The proposed change would seed teams based purely on their record instead of each division winner earning a top-four seed. While that may be a more logical way to do things, it’s certainly less fun.

Whether it should or shouldn’t be banned has been beaten half to death, but it strikes me that 2 players could see substantial value changes as a result:
1. Jalen Hurts - reduced TDs
2. Saquan Barkley - increased TDs

If this does indeed come to pass (and Schefter is as good as they come for these sorts of predictions, to the point I suspect he has inside info that it will happen) then…

1. How dramatic of a shift might this be for each of these players? 5 TD swing? 10? More? Fewer? Or will Hurts just find other ways to vulture?

2. How would you adjust their rankings/valuation in dynasty or redraft?

3. Would you be more active selling Barkley on the potential value spike?

4. Would you be more inclined to buy on Barkley in dynasty?

5. Would Barkley be the 1.01 in redraft, all formats?

Gotta admit, as a new Barkley shareholder it’s a very exciting time.

Was going to wonder how big of an impact will have, Hurts will still sneak a lot and he can still squat 600 pounds, but looked up his stats didn't realize he's been getting 14 rushing TD's per year. So would have to think that comes down maybe by 5. Barkley had 13 last year, don't see him getting to 18 also worried about his volume last year but that's a different topic.

I’m taking the over on 19 TD for Barkley.

Barkley to the moon!!!!!!!!! :towelwave:

Lawd I hope this is the correct answer.
Me too as a Barkley owner in several leagues.

However, I think the answer is somewhere in the middle. Hurts will be able to do a standard QB sneak and score in a lot or most of these same situations on the goal line. But maybe he just says screw it and hands off to Saquan for the easy score. My bet is about 50/50, which still gives Saquan a big jump in TDs.

Eagles didn't start using the tush push until the 2022 season.

Jalen Hurts rushing TDs in the 2021: 10 (number of rushing TD from 1 yard line: 5) The rest of the Eagles team had 5 TDs from the 1, in 2021. So Hurts was already eating into the RB value, just not the extent he did once the tush push was put in.

If the tush push gets banned, I don't think it's going to hurt Hurts in fantasy.

Agree with this regarding Hurts - and probably Josh Allen.

While the tush push certainly makes it an easier path to the end zone, Hurts/Allen are so powerful and adept that they'll still get the ball at the one. The OL will just have to work a bit more and they both have good ones.

Only a couple to Barkley. Hurts will remain deadly on sneaks. Far FAR too much credit is given to the pushers, in the overwhelming majority of the "tush push" plays, Hurts had the first on his own before anyone touched his rear.
Agree with this

Agree with this

The difference may be, when the Eagles have a 3rd & 3, sometimes they line up for the tush push and do it twice, if needed. Those longer short yardage plays might be run differently.

Will Hurts even know how to score a TD if he doesn't have someone helping him over the goal line? I'm not so sure.

They'll probably have to give it to Barkley if they want a TD now. Hurt's value probably goes way down now and Barkley's goes even higher.

I think it could be minior. Certainly more TDs for Barkley but as others have said, Hurts is a very strong dude and QB sneaks are pretty effective.

I wouldn't really adjust much. TD's are fluky and they can still QB sneak which I believe Hurts is probably still pretty good at. Overall it may lower the offense as those 3rd and 3 or 4 plays may not be as successful as running the TP twice to get the 3 or 4 yds. Other than that I am not changing much on the projection front.

How many touchdowns do you see Hurts getting this year now that the Tush Push is here to stay for 2025?

Hmmm...that's tough. Cheaters TDs still only credited to one person (Hurts)? Or do we have to divide the count up by how many guys push him over the line since he can't do it by himself?

So, for example, if Hurts needs the assistance of 3 other players like he regularly does, do we give each of them .25 towards their TD count? Or does Hurts get all the credit for doing none of the work other than just holding the ball?

Gimme a break with this stinky bait BS

I calls'em likes I sees'em. Hurts will have to put in some extra practice on learning to get over the goal line by himself now. I'm sure he'll figure it out at some point.
You do know that it didnt get banned right?

And you dont 'call it as you see it', you're a bitter Packers fan that can't let your loss go. In 3 months you've made 0 posts about anything except for the Eagles and Shedeur Sanders lol.

I can't help that you think cheating is "within the rules", but unless you're going to allow the DEF to do the same it will always be cheating in most people's opinions.

The fact that they allowed it this year is absurd, but it is what it is. The Eagles now have another shot at the SB because w/out that play they most likely wouldn't make it to the playoffs. However, the vote this time was very tight compared to last time, despite all the Eagles fans throwing shade previously about not many teams wanting to ban it. It's clear to me that most teams see this as an illegitimate play and I bet next year it gets the kai-bosh as it should.

And i could just as easily call you a "blind-eyed Eagles fan" who will accept any low tactic to win. I've been on this forum a long time and under another name previously so don't play childish "post count" games as some sort of legitimacy test.

Football is definitely a sport where you never need assistance of teammates.

Which is exactly what I would expect someone to say who doesn't understand the context of the argument.

It's clear trolling (and really bad trolling) at this point, but to even say they added 4 wins on the season by doing a fully legal play, which can be converted at a high percentage on a normal sneak, just shows you know absolutely NOTHING about football (if you're being serious. Which we all know you're not).

Maybe you'll have to think about your own team now that you have nothing less to troll about. Zzzzzzzzzz,

For now, sure. But it's not over. Expect next year for this to get kai-boshed and for the Eagles to be forced to figure out how to get over the goal line w/out a cheat code.

Something is clearly wrong with you.
A. It isn't cheating. EVERYONE can acknowledge this but you.
B. Typical conversion rates on QB senaks are in the mid to upper 80s. Hurts has a terrific line and is built to sneak...a mid 90's "tush push" rate is no more then 3 or percentage points off what could be expected under YOUR VERSION of what the rules should be....and that's being generous to you.
C. Put those two things together, both of which are really NOT arguable statements, and your whole post becomes nothing more then terrible rotten stinky bait clearly meant just to needle Eagles fans. Kind of absurd TBH

Have you actually WATCHED these plays? closely? Hurts has the yardage before the pushers even touch him over 80% of the time. The pushers very very rarely make a difference.

I realize this should be obvious, since traditional sneak conversion rates are mid 80's, but clearly you think they are much MUCH lower as you keep pounding this absurd table

good point. I noticed this too.

over the last 3 years or so, Philly likely had the best line in the NFL. but with Sequon there it feels like they use the Tush Push more sparingly now.

personally I dont care either way. most playoff calibre teams once they get inside the 1 are able to punch it in, tush Push or no.

I dont see a need for the rule anyhow.

You have no idea what you're talking about and stop trying to divine my motives simply because we disagree. Focus on the debate of the tush-push instead of childish and personal attacks. It just shows you have nothing to stand on when you go after me personally and trying to curry favor and gather your "mean girls" group to go after me is also absurd and childish.

You're argument isn't a real one though. The play is ruled legal. Its now been a rule like this for 20 years or so right? I get you disagree with it, but I don't give the points of your argument merit.

Its not cheating, cheating is breaking the rules. If its within the rules, its not cheating.

I know exactly what I'm talking about. You said you didn't think the 14-3 Eagles would have made the playoffs last year if they didn't Tush Push. You've been given data where you are clearly wrong (unless for some reason you think Hurts' qb sneak percentage would have dropped from around 90% to under 1%). You don't really believe that, and are trying to play the "it's just a disagreement, I can have that opinion". Yes, you can have that opinion but if you do then it shows your lack of knowledge about the sport.

But hey, maybe soon enough you'll get back to discussing your own team (Packers) instead of obsessing about 1 play and making it obvious to any and everyone what you're trying to do here. Weak Sauce.

The Eagles now have another shot at the SB because w/out that play they most likely wouldn't make it to the playoffs.

Zzzzzzzzzz,
Trolling = "things I don't agree with".
ok look- The "battle" is over for now. You lost. If you want to- regroup for the "war".
For now, sure. But it's not over. Expect next year for this to get kai-boshed and for the Eagles to be forced to figure out how to get over the goal line w/out a cheat code.
So for now. Can we let it go?
He will never let it go.

I think its assuredly clear to everyone that he doesn't actually believe these things and gets glory out of his posts. Sad, really.
Never seen someone care more about a rival team than their own. Well, besides a couple other guys in here 😉

No one is holding a gun to your head and telling you to read and post in these threads.
I know exactly what I'm talking about. You said you didn't think the 14-3 Eagles would have made the playoffs last year if they didn't Tush Push. Oh, so you're the Topic Manager? Do I have some paperwork I need to fill out and submit to you for your approval on what topics to discuss?

Don't be absurd.

And posts like this just prove my point even more :lmao:

Thanks for that.
Prove your point? You're the guy who insisted that posters could only discuss topics you approve of.

Can we get back on the topic instead of going after me and making it personal? You don't have any moral high ground here and going after me only makes you look like YOU have no defense to the actual topic.
