Vegas (2 Viewers)

Alright, anyone want to critique my tentative itinerary and tell me what I'm missing (this is the 20-26 of this month) - meeting my brother/sister in law from England there. We've all been once before. We did the High Roller, the day trips to the canyon etc.. on that trip, so trying to fill in some blanks on what we've missed.

Friday night - flight arrives relatively late. Won't do much, get to the hotel, get checked in, unpacked, fool around etc...

Saturday - Probably do a day on the strip, we're at NYNY and like that area but we'll probably just tour around and "do the strip" and see the sights, have some drinks.

Sunday - Sportsbook in the AM for NFL Sunday. I've heard Westgate is cool, could be convinced to do Circa but I'm the only one in the group who cares at all about American Football so can't see the others wanting to pay much for admission - maybe if we did the pool thing they'd go for it. Probably some combination of Arts District/Fremont Street for the remainder of the day - breweries and party etc...

Monday - no day time plans yet - probably do the Sphere Postcards from Earth thing in the evening - wife wants to and it has to be Sunday or Monday while we're there, other dates don't work.

Tuesday - We are going to the Philly/Vegas NHL game in the evening. I'll probably try to keep us near the NYNY area from mid-afternoon on, seems like that area should be a lot of fun on a game day.

Wednesday - thinking maybe TopGolf at some point. We don't have itup here, looks like a good time... No other plans, maybe some more strip or Arts District (I love craft beer and my wife is vegan, this seems to be the go to area for both).

Thursday flying home.
strippers and bl.....

if you're staying at NY/NY maybe try and take in a show on Monday night. MGM has KA but there are plenty of other ones that can be had cheapish this time of year.
Yeah we should probably get to a show of some sort, last time we saw Zumanity and we've seen a few Cirque ones over the years. My wife wants to go to the Rupaul's Drag Race show (I'm not against it, I've just read you don't necessarily get the top/highest billed performers a lot of the time which makes me a bit meh on it)

also, with the raiders being out of town that weekend that area of the strip shouldn't be as packed and I'd guess ticket prices will be down compared to a weekend with them in town.

It's the When We Were Young music festival weekend (Green Day, Blink-182 etc), I'm not sure how that will impact things/if anyone has experience there during one of those events. I do know it's long sold out and the hotel prices were very high for Friday/Saturday/Sunday.

Crowds on south Strip after Raiders games confirmed. On Monday night, the plug of humanity trying to cross the I-15 on Hacienda was moving so slow I could feel my soul being drained from my body. Then I was able to hang a left and pass hundreds of people behind Luxor and Excalibur, before straight-up jaywalking across Tropicana to NYNY, where I got a Lyft back downtown. Rideshare was $55 each way.

I should have mentioned this before but the shark move seems to be to grab one of those bike taxi people if you can or walk over to S Procyon and w ali baba and snag an uber from there, we did the latter since there were 4 of us and we were headed back to the Flamingo.

I'm heading to Vegas tomorrow for work and just saw the Raiders were playing at home against the New York Giants. So no only do I have to deal with the crowds, there will be a **** ton of New Yorkers. Great....

I'm willing to bet they all like to stay at the New York, New York. LOL.

headed to Vegas saturday morning for 3 days, staying at the venetian and will be drooling I'm sure at the Christina Aguilera posters that will be hanging all over the walls. It'll be my first time seeing their new sports book, I've read it's a huge upgrade but it's still third party owned which means no player points for betting there.

Just got back from the Footballguys Staff Retreat.

Seemed pretty normal. CES was wrapping up as we got there. Lots of cab drivers said it was a smaller vibe than normal.

Did some of my normal spots.

Mott 32 for dinner one night.

Best Friend as always.

Had Shake Shack catered in and it was fantastic. I was worried how it would carry over and it was great.

Did a big group of 30 at Grimaldis for pizza and it was excellent.

If you're with a group... even just two dudes... hit up Flight Club at Venetian. I'm not that into darts, but Flight Club was probably our favorite stop on my last trip. Very classy place with outstanding cocktails. And there are like 10 different dart games (like Shoots and Ladders dart style) to choose from. The entire experience was a huge surprise.

Had a company sales meeting in Vegas, flew in Sunday and back yesterday. We were on the north end of the strip at Resorts World (down where the Frontier used to be for those old enough). Was actually a nice hotel/casino. Only about 3 years old.

A lot of variety of food, dealers and pit bosses were cool , although they took a lot of my money. And I say the pit bosses were cool since they let us lower the blackjack and Pai Gao Poker down to $15/hand. This $25/hand is insanity. I had never seen Craps tables with $100 minimums. Did find a $15 table as well so I got to play a little.

Headed down Saturday morning as well. 3 rounds of golf and betting in the games. Staying at the D as most of the group wanted downtown and Circa was like $600

I just read about that place this morning and it's definitely up there for some where to hang sunday after top golf. I'm trying to decide between the cocktail bar in the ventian or walking down to the tilted kilt to watch the main UFC card which will be over lapping with the Niners game.

nice, I tried to get a few from our group to play sunday morning but alas they would rather spend saturday morning (1am-3am) at the strip club

Flight Club is insanely popular over here, I'm not surprised that this has happened, it makes great sense from a commercial perspective - our poker school has been looking to book it here but it's booked up months in advance, although obviously we have a board where we actually play if we want to play somewhat seriously (as does Vegas, at least the pub where I watched one of England's games at a noon Vegas time kickoff had a board I could throw at, can't recall exactly where but it was a quick Uber to the pinball museum where it was in 2019 so I want to say somewhere on Tropicana?)

Just got back, and oh boy has that placed changed. I've been to Vegas probably at least 25-30 times, although most of these trips were in my 20's and 30's, aka pre-children. Since then maybe 4-5 times, but this was my first trip since covid and may well be one of my last. I know quite a bit of my displeasure is because I'm an old now. Smoke bothers me and the dry air didn't help much. Table games were a bit of a nightmare, wtf is playing triple zero roulette. And while not quite as bad, 6/5 black jack all over should not be par for the course. Nor should $50/day resort fees. And I could go on and on about the aggressiveness of some of the street "acts" and picture hawkers, but instead I will focus on the good part of Vegas.

T-Mobile Arena for a Knight game was top notch. It was awesome. They put on a production, everything was concert level loud, crowd was great, everything was fantastic as an away fan. But damn that was the coldest arena I've ever been in. brrrrrrrr.
Circa is fantastic. If I return, this will be my go to spot. I'm not a huge fan of the Freemont Experience crowd (loud, rambunctious, 420 rampant and so on), but I like sports, I like table games, I like playable limits and this place has them all. Very nice casino.

I know people go on and on about the food in Vegas as well, and yeah there are nice spots, but to me, it's like dining in any other city, but add at least a 30% Vegas tax to the price.

I always make it a point to get to Freemont Street. The main strip just isn't what it used to be 20 years ago.

Agree with all of this. Just saw that MGM is raising resort fees again for all of their properties. Pure robbery. As is 6/5 blackjack and 3 zero roulette. I refuse to play those. Pit boss told me "somebody has to pay for those drinks you are having" as the reason odds changed for the worse. Give me a break. I understand the Vegas tax on restaurants and accept it. And love the Circa. Most friendly playing environment I've seen. Fun. Couple that with some of the better value you get with downtown restaurants like Andiamo and it makes sense to get there at least for a night or two.

Just got back from a weekend trip with the kids. Checked out Area 15 and Tournament of the Kings and things like that. Pretty fun stuff for the kids in Vegas.

Headed back next weekend for a proper guys trip. I scoped out the tables this past weekend while I was there and was surprised to see $15 Blackjack/craps tables available even on Friday night on the strip. I figured it would be hard to find anything under $25 on the weekends at this point. Felt like we were already getting close to that last time I was there in 2018ish, so it was a pleasant surprise.

Yea 6/5 on Blackjack is dumb but we were pretty close to that even pre-covid on the strip. 6/5 blackjack and auto-shufflers. Gross, but it is what it is. Yeah I miss the days of parking at a $10 blackjack table with 3/2 payouts and a 6 deck shoe with a nice shuffle break every 15 minutes, but I'm glad sub $25 hands are still attainable.

just got back as well, stayed at the venetian and their new sportsbook is pretty nice but $50 a hand of black jack was ridiculous. Walked down to harrahs/linq area and gambled down there for $15 a hand and watched the UFC fights at the tilted kilt. Top Golf sunday for the first half of the Lions game followed by a trip to the Four Queens for $5 a hand black jack but at that point things were no longer going good for me health wise. I took a covid test saturday morning before flying and was negative but I was slowly feeling sicker as time went by so I headed back to the room where I promptly fell a sleep at 5 in the afternoon and woke up at 5 yesterday morning.

Then the real fun started as my 130pm flight got cancelled and I was rebooked on to a 9pm flight, after a phone call I was able to get on a 530pm flight which was promptly delayed 2 hours :wall:. On the plus side I was feeling slightly better and just dropped my backpack off at the luggage storage and walked around the strip for a few hours.

I've also been doing Vegas every year since I was in my 20's and share many views after a recent Vegas boys trip. It seems like what I've always enjoyed about Vegas is becoming less common or more expensive. I love the ability to bounce from place to place, people watch on the strip, day drink without judgement from others and have a few sessions at BJ or craps with strangers from around the country/globe while having a few drinks.

I like that Vegas still mostly has the mindset of people going to indulge for a few days - few people are in high stress mode. I dislike that the casual gambler has been priced out. Sure you can taxi to Ellis Island or Fremont and find a fun $10 table, but I used to see a lot of these at any casino on the strip and that is mostly gone.

The vibe walking down the strip is also just a little off. Used to be a long stretch between NY NY and Treasure Island where it was always interesting to walk the sidewalk. Now it's a little creepy and I'd rather cut through the casinos.

I was just there this past weekend and even on Friday night at 8pm with one of the world's largest car conventions in town there were still $15 Blackjack tables aplenty all over the strip. Yeah you're not going to find them at Caesars or Aria or Venetian anymore but that was a tough ask even 5+ years ago.

Guessing all the states legalizing gambling is probably to blame for the higher minimums.
The casual gambler can just drive to a nearby casino

yesterday afternoon harrah's had $5 minimums for ultimate hold 'em and $10 for black jack which is pretty damn low. Even saturday night it was all under $20 with the exception of pai gow, sure the food is expensive but there are plenty of places mid strip to still play without being a high roller.

That's good news I guess. I haven't been to Vegas in like 10 years. If I go back I definitely prefer not to see 50 dollar minimums everywhere

I go to Vegas annually, but I don’t gamble. I prefer to stay at Circa these days at least until Vdara’s renovations are complete. The vibe downtown is just more fun imo.

Yuck. My flight Monday was delayed a couple of hours, landed in MN at 1:30 am and I got to bed at 3:00. Also feeling a little under the weather. Weather was not great for golf but we still managed to play. I love Circa but man is downtown a ####show. The little black circles where they put the crazies is so strange. Seems like a ton of homeless and/or mentally ill wandering around at all times. We had live music right below our room at the D pounding until 2:30 am. Everything smelled so much like weed. Maybe I’m just old. A seat in the Circa sportsbook was $200 for the divisional playoffs so we just sat and stood nearby. Played $5 tables at the Nugget. I guess these days I prefer to stay at a higher end place and not wander much. Just seems like so many crazies everywhere.

Going to Vegas in a couple of weeks but will be in and out in less than 12 hours. I have a 6a flight from ABQ to Las Vegas, some work meetings, and an early dinner, before flying to Burbank at 8p. Kind of bummed I don't get at least one night there....

Going in a few weeks for 5 days 4 nights...I have been to Vegas 5 times in the last 2 years, mostly for work, so I know what to expect, but I always stayed on the strip. This time, we rented a house on the west side of the strip. Does anyone have any input on staying off the strip/freemont? I've never been to Red Rock or Durango, so I think I want to check that out at least one day as I know that is approx 10 minutes from our house. Any other cool restaurants, bars, casinos, sportsbooks to go to outside of the strip/freemont?

Spent 4 days at Circa Dec 23-27. They put me in a room on 18th floor with pool view.....pounding music even when we checked in at 1 pm. I went straight to the desk and said no way....I can't even nap !!!!....switched to mountain side on 60th floor Much better.... but the loud EDM they pump 24 hours in the casino is annoying !!!

we did pay $ 75 for seats on left side of sports book on 24th.....then I realized they were not charging on the right side ....so X-mas morning sat there for free...

you're right about the crazies...I just try to find the quietest place to play video poker and drink....

Durango is pretty sweet. A lot of energy in that place. The sportsbook has a modern and open vibe and the food court looks amazing. I didn’t get to eat there—but I enjoyed the few hours I gambled there when I was there a few weeks back. Red Rock is also nice and worth checking out. If you have a bit of extra time when you go to the resort—you should also go ahead and check out Red Rock Canyon. It’s minutes from the resort and it’s beautiful. You have to pay per vehicle to get it—and even if you don’t hike—there are lots of spots where you can pull off the road and park your car and enjoy some beautiful views.

A couple other off of the strip hotel/casinos that have decent energy and are decently nice are the South Point and Green Valley Ranch. If you do the South Point—you can also couple that with a visit to the outlet mall that is just down the street from it. Green Valley Ranch is in Henderson and has a nice little outdoor mall/dining area around the entrance of it.

I've seen a few mentions of sportsbook reservations. I am going to be there on Sunday during the conference championship games. Is that something we're going to need to get a reservation somewhere for?

Just reading through some of the recent posts in this thread, and I do have some thoughts. I was just there for New Years—and I saw plenty of lower limit blackjack tables on the strip. Sure—you won’t be finding $10-15 blackjack at the Bellagio on the night of New Years Eve—but you can just walk down the street and find them at Harrahs, the Linq, Casino Royale, the Flamingo…etc. I do agree with food and drinks getting really expensive—and the other intagibles really add up (parking fees, Uber or transportation costs if you don’t have your own vehicle). Also, many years ago—I found that my preference was to patron places that were loud, had energy—but I didn’t want to stay at hotels where that was the vibe. I would enjoy having fun at the fun/loud places—but I also enjoyed crawling back to a comfortable and quiet room.

Because of this (and I’ve mentioned it before)—I started staying at the timeshare resorts many years ago and I haven’t looked back. The rooms are generally set up like apartments or condos (I generally book 1 or 2 bedroom units). You have full kitchens that are stocked with appliances, utensils, plates..you have a nice living room. Not only are the rooms very comfortable—but they put you in a position to where you don’t feel ripped off at every possible opportunity. Before you check into your room—just run to the grocery store—get a case of water, get some alcohol of your choice, get some snacks/food. It’s really nice to not have to pay $4-5 for every bottle of water you want, or $5 for a coffee—when you can just brew your own pot in the room. I’m not a big fan of eating out more than 1x a day—so I’ll generally have breakfast in my room. Also, if I feel like I want to have some fun and drink—I’ll knock down a couple drinks in the room before I hit the strip so that I don’t have to get ripped off buying tons of watered down drinks at casino bars. Keep in mind—that you can always make your own drinks in the room and bring them out on the strip.

The main reason why I like the timeshare resorts is because they are perfect for throwing room parties. When I was there for New Years—the big College Football playoff games were that same weekend. I ended up inviting some of my friends from Vegas and some people that I randomly met on the strip to watch the game in my suite and it was great. Ordered a couple cases of beer, some pizzas—and we had a wonderful time. I enjoyed it better than going to a sportsbook.

Some of the nicer timeshare places are the Marriott Grand Chateau, the Elara, the Hilton Grand Vacation Club at the Flamingo, and the Wyndham Grand Desert. Some mid-level ones (the mid level ones are comfortable to stay at—but they probably won’t “impress” anybody with their finishes/decor) that I enjoy are the Holiday Inn Desert Club (located next door to the sphere, and you can walk one block and be at the promenade where the High Roller is), the Jockey Club (super old, definitely try to tip and pay for a room that has a Bellagio view as half of the hotel has zero view—but the key to the Jockey club is that it is located right between the Bellagio and the Cosmo).

In any case, for those of whom want a comfortable room in Vegas—and feel like they are getting overcharged for everything when they go to Vegas—I very much recommend experimenting with the timeshare route at least once. Just remember to turn down any attempts to get you to attend any timeshare presentations…etc. I usually just tell them at check in that my entire trip is planned and I have no free time for anything.

Circa for sure. It would have the best atmosphere also since Derek Stevens is from the Detroit area.

Spent the week there. Seemed as good as ever. It's pretty amazing a city can host a Super Bowl and Monday it feels like business as usual.

Best Friend crushed as usual.

Pepper Mill for breakfast is a fun throwback.

Joe's Steaks and Seafood in Caesar's was on point as well. It's not unusual and it's the standard high end old school steakhouse but they consistently do it better than anywhere else I go. Server was fantastic and has been there since they opened.

So does EVERY hotel in Vegas have the "resort fee" that you dont even hear about till you get there?
If you don’t know they all have one, then that’s on you
ummmm, ok??
I havent been to Vegas in like 12 years, and might be going in May.
I was wondering in they ALL do, or if any dont.
I want the cheapest place to stay for two nights that I can find (will be by myself), ideally the closer to MGM the better.

There are a few that don’t. Cosmo still doesn’t I think (although it’s not cheap). I think the D downtown. 4 Queens, Casino Royale. Nothing really close to MGM I don’t think
