My wife and I stayed at the MGM Signature for several nights two weekends ago. Surprisingly, the rates were cheaper than the MGM Grand. We were very impressed with the Signature. It was really clean, seemingly new with a large room, huge bathroom and whirlpool. It's set back off of the strip a little bit, behind the MGM Grand. You get to the strip by walking through a skyway to the MGM Grand, which is great for us as we like the walk. Another nice thing was it was very quiet. You don't have early 20-somethings running the halls every night like a lot of other hotels. Most of the people at this place were families and businessmen/women.

I booked a suite at the Signature through airbnb. $150/night for three nights. That's the best part about the planning so far, because flights are just getting more and more expensive...

There are three towers - we stayed in the third (furthest out). It's gated from the street so cabs/limos/cars have to check in to even get to the front lobby. They are all connected at the lobby level by a large hallway. A good chunk of this hallway have people movers like you see in airports, which makes for a decently quick trip. If you keep going past tower 1, it dumps you off right into the MGM grand food court area (where CSI, restaurants, stores, etc are). You then just cut through the MGM Grand to get to the strip.

Each tower has its own medium sized pool with big jaccuzzi. Lots of chairs and cabanas to be had. Being off-season, I think you can just go out and comandeer a cabana if you want; many were empty.There is a Starbucks in the lobby of either Tower 1 or 2 I can't recall. There is a small deli style restaurant in Tower 3 which we didn't eat at.

The room was decently large and the bathroom consisted of a seperate little room with a door with the toilet. The remainder of the bathroom had a dual vanity, with very clean marble floors and walls. The shower was large and fully enclosed in glass which is nice for pressing your junk against if the wife happens to wander in. There was a big hot tub built for 2+ people as well.

I've got a thing about dirty or old hotel rooms. I just can't stand it and get the heebie jeebies if I even have to walk on an older or dirty carpet. The same with the comforter, if it looks old or worn I just can't. friggin. stand. it. Even at some nicer placed we've stayed over the years, I still get put off a bit at first and have to warm up to the room. I didn't get that feeling here at all. From the get-go, I was 100% comfortable as it was cleaner than my house. There was a small fridge, wet bar and microwave. We used it for beer and water storage.

We tend to avoid spending much for our rooms whenever it's just the 2 of us, especially in Vegas. It's cheap for the same reason Trump is cheap....(most) people like having the casino right downstairs. You won't be disappointed if that doesn't bother you. If possible, upgrade to the 1 bedroom suite from the studio.....much larger and full kitchen.

The walk to MGM casino isn't that bad. Most of the time you're doing that walk in the morning on the way out or the early morning on the way back in, at which point you'll appreciate passing all the food/coffee options anyway.

Yep, TI is a little underrated. Hard to think of anything awesome about it, but more importantly hard to think of anything bad about it. Great location, decent pool. It always takes me a day or so to get orientated in that hotel for some reason - I always go out the wrong door to get to the strip

For a budget stay I've become a fan of Flamingo. Went there because the guys I was meeting were staying there and we ended up spending most of our casino and eating time on property.

The pool was definitely a party pool and kind of trashy but in a fun way. Talent very average but also very social.

On my trips to Vegas sans wife Flamingo's has always been a favorite of mine too. Just a fun place. Depending on your spin it's either "unpretentious" or "low brow", but either way it's relaxed. I have a good friend who slings drinks at Margaritaville too, which always helps. Used to have the best fun casino in the planet right next door (O'Shea's), but CET ruined that.

TI has always been an absolutely fantastic value in my book. The location is fantastic. The Blackjack tables still pay 3/2 on blackjack. The buffet is nice.

Walgreens is super close by for picking up some of your own booze.

The vibe in there is a bit stale... but if you're in Vegas to do Vegas stuff and not spend that much time in your room and are looking for a deal it's super.

Yep, TI is a little underrated. Hard to think of anything awesome about it, but more importantly hard to think of anything bad about it. Great location, decent pool. It always takes me a day or so to get orientated in that hotel for some reason - I always go out the wrong door to get to the strip

i'd say the pool is actually kind of lame. If it were pool season i'd probably pony up for a nicer hotel with a better pool and thus hotter chicks to stare a hole through.

I think one of TI's nicest features is how small and negotiable it is. it doesn't take long to get from your room to the strip whereas in megaresorts it can really take some time.

You're right that there isn't anything awesome about it, other than the Mystere show which is still a very solid Cirque show.

But I can get a really nice size suite for less than the price of a rack room at a nicer place like the Venetian or Bellagio.

I'd rather save my money on the room and spend it on shows/gambling/food/experiences.

Well I made all my reservations. Flying in July 24th (landing 11am Vegas time) staying at the MGM Grand, seeing Rush Saturday night at the Grand Garden Arena, leaving Monday morning. My closet friend and band-mate is coming along and my third band-mate is working on getting out there as well.

Exactly. They track your buy's, bet's etc. Let's say you take out a 10K marker and gamble and only bet 2-3K of it your entire trip....they know all of this.

I agree with Icon. The Excalibur isn't horrible if you have young kids like you do, but it's not the nicest hotel on the strip. NY NY is ok, but no poker room. I think Mandalay bay is your best bet.

Trop is a ####hole. Crappy rooms, overpriced, miniature gambling floor, subpar restaurants and entertainment. I was there last September. You couldn't pay me to stay there.

eta--Jeez, the Luxor is your other options? That might be my only other least favorite hotel in Vegas. Its dark, musty and dirty. Hated the atmosphere.

Back in the good ole days you could really get taken care of if you were good to the dealers, etc. I play a lot of craps -- straight pass/come with odds. Theo on that sucks for the house (1.41% on the come/pass, 0% on the odds), but I was always well taken care of since I take care of the boys, don't bet late, etc. Nowadays grinders who are subjectively good players to the staff don't get much love from CET.

Golden Nugget is the nicest hotel downtown, and it isn't close, really. Several of the older properties are renovated and are a bit nicer now, but GN has always been the classy joint down there. Definitely stay in the Rush Tower if you are staying there though. Pool area is cool; different vibe downtown but a good change of pace.

It's pretty nice for downtown.I stayed at the D a couple weekends ago and that was actually pretty good. Rooms have been recently renovated.

The "D Suite" rooms are great - nice two room suites with great bar area. As nice as the Rush Tower at the Nugget is, for the $, I prefer the D Suite.

I think I've said this in here at least 3 times now but IMO the best nicer casino for kids is Mandalay. Also why it is not the best choice if you are going to Vegas with your woman - kids everywhere.

From what I gather black chip blackjack doesn't even move the needle for big comps anymore. They might give you a suite upgrade or something at a strip hotel. Comps are very tight.

Talking 6 hours a day of gambling deep stacks with black chips just to get to the first real level.

Yep. Many years ago I qualified for diamond status on one trip by accident. Nothing but $1/$3 hold 'em, $10 craps, and $10-15 BJ. Wasn't even trying to work the comps, just gambling with the boys.

Nowadays? Forget it even if I were to go on a bender. I'm not cramming $100s into the slots or throwing money around on high theo games so they give 0 flips about me. I get better credit for spending big on nice dinners with the wife than I do gambling. Ridiculous.

The Venetian would be my choice. I've stayed at most of the hotels on this list, and the Venetian is the best one. The standard room is great. The poker room is awesome. And the restaurants are top notch - I've had awesome meals at Bouchon and Delmonico's. And the Grand Lux Cafe is open 24 hours and has some pretty darn good breakfast.February rates should be pretty good so it's worth staying at a nice place like the Venetian.

Venetian is nice, but also owned by Sheldon Adelson.

I despise having to drive on the strip and I hate when you have to drive up and around 7 floors to get a spot. It was really easy to get in and out of to head around town too, no drunk pedestrians to deal with.

Heading out again March 20th. I have never been there during NCAA tourney. Is it as crazy as I have heard? What time in the AM will they open the betting windows?

I'd rather stay at a little nicer place and go for the cheaper gambling spots. Not to say anything is wrong with TI... But if you've got the budget for gambling at Venetian, Palazzo, or Wynn (basically $25+ craps or blackjack) then what's an extra $150/night for a nicer room?
