Do you like large crowds? The Strip on New Year's Eve is like Armageddon. The large resorts actually close their doors and only allow people in if they have a room key. Room rates are out of this world, as well.Sorry to rain on your parade. If you decide to do this, my best recommendation is the Rio, west of the Strip. The outdoor part of VooDoo Lounge is a great vantage point for the spectacular fireworks show on NYE.

Since that day is a Saturday, most places still have pretty high rates, on the notion that most people will want to stay and make a weekend of it. When NYE is midweek, that next weekend is usually one of the cheapest of the year.

Just got back from Vegas. The wife and I spent the weekend last weekend. I just have to post again how awesome Mix is. It's at the top of THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay, and it has become our favorite restaurant. The braised beef is quite possibly the best thing I've ever eaten. It is too good to describe, so if you are in Vegas and want an awesome dinner, go to Mix and order it.
Not much more to add except that we stayed at THE Hotel for the first time. We got an upgraded suite and had floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the strip from the bed. That was pretty awesome. I didn't like the pillows though, so that kind of sucked.
Oh, one more thing. My brother was in Vegas at the same time, so me, him, and his buddy all had a dinner at Sushi Samba at the Palazzo. The menu is huge and we had no idea what to order, so we told the waiter we wanted to spend about 50 bucks per person, and just bring us food. It was very very good. The waiter was incredible, the food was great, and we had a great time.
I'm going back in February for the UFC fights, so I'll post again if we try anything new.

I was also at Mandalay last weekend.
Has anybody ever rented a house for a trip to Vegas? I am thinking about going with a big group in March and thought this might be the way to go.

why not just rent a house in your neighborhood? Part of being in vegas is how different LV Blvd is from anywhere in the world. Rooms are so cheap right now too. You should be able to get a deal on a suite. Mgm skyloft if you guys are ballers.
I am thinking of something with 8 bedrooms or so. Not many suites that big.

Check VRBO for condos on the strip. We had 15 guys and stayed in adjoining rooms at the Jockey Club. There were 8 beds in total when combining the two suites. The view was overlooking the Bellagio Fountain. When you have a dozen or so guys, it is great to have a "homebase" on the strip, cause there is no way all 12 guys will be hanging out together the whole time. Having a homebase on the strip means you see guys coming and going and can go chillout for a bit if needed.

Look up a few posts. You will regret not going to Mix. The place absolutely rocks.Bouchon at the Venetian is also very good.

Bouchon does not aspire to much. It is mainly a French Bistro serving standard bistro fare. It has nothing in common with French Laundry or PerSe.

Anyone know how much discount ticket kiosks usually sell Cirque tickets for? Going to January 13 show.
We are wanting to go to "O" and have an 11 person group. We can currently buy tickets with a 25% code (from signing up to a free Bellagio account), so it would mean the best seat tickets would be $123.75.
Will the discount ticket kiosk in Vegas be a lot cheaper than that? To me, it seems it would have to be quite a bit cheaper than the $123.75 to take the chance. Is it worth the risk of going to vegas with an 11 person group and not booking tickets beforehand with the hope of getting some great deal, or no?

Don't do it, not for 'O'. The most popular shows, 'O' among them, only get discounted last minute if they're not sold out (which they often are). They're expensive but it's a great show and and worth it IMO (especially the really good seats). Not sure if Bellagio offers a group discount, but I'd call Bellagio and see if they would do anything for you.

I think I'll be at Rio for a Bachelor party.
Hey all, how much for a cab to the Strip(ETA from the airport)? We're staying at the Wynn. There are 3 of us and we can get on a shuttle for $36 round trip total. I figure that would be better than a taxi, but checking in here to be sure.
Also, is it possible to get into any cirque shows for cheap? Looking at Mystere, but would like to do it for a touch less.

1. I have read on here that the Spearmint Rhino is pretty expensive (i.e. $100 for three song minimum). Will it be that expensive on a Wednesday evening?

This. The shuttle only makes sense if you are alone, and if often stops at 5 or more hotels before yours, especially if you are towards the end like the Wynn. A cab will probably run you $20-$25 total.

Mesa Grill is pretty good. Went with 3 couples last year and all the food was great. Portions are 'small' by today's standards, which I liked since you could get appetizers/dessert or whatever and not feel stuffed. The only bad thing I could say is that there didn't seem to be anything about the atmosphere that set it apart, like most Vegas restaurants have... if that makes sense.

You can keep checking travelzoo or vegasdealsdirect and some other similar sites as they have discounts occasionally, but I think low end seats for Mystere are in the $60 range. I think that's the cheapest Cirque show (and the theatre isn't a cavern, so cheap seats aren't that bad).

Rhino is too overpriced, yeah the girls are hot, but a lot won't even dance for song, only for a benjamin 3-dancer. Go to either Sapphire (bigger than Rhino, talent about the same, less hustle). Or Seamless, more of a boutique joint, turns into a nightclub at a certain hour when the strippers hang out (best bang for the buck IMO).

Buddy of mine went to some swanky party in LA where they gave gift bags out among them a flyer for a free 2 nites MLK wknd at the Cosmpolitan. Problem was they didn't individualize the promo codes on the flyers and every gift bag had the same one. So my buddy fowarded me the code told me everything about the party. Called up and I had a free room in 5 minutes. Forwarded the info to all my friends and by the time they caught on 3 hours later we had 15 free rooms already (heard others did the same).

I stayed at the Rio based on your recommendation for New Year's Day night, even though that meant that I missed the fireworks show, but it was nice to be slightly removed from the more intense craziness on the Strip. I got a room for a little over $100; I don't know how bad that is, but I didn't mind since it was a one-time thing. I lost some money playing blackjack and craps that night, and I won a poker tournament and a bet on the Packers the next day, so I had fun.I drove from St. Louis to Pasadena for the Rose Bowl and back by myself on somewhat of a whim, and by far the craziest part of the whole experience was just setting foot in Vegas.

I always just rent a compact car in Vegas. It's cheaper than grabbing a cab for everywhere and you have much more freedom. Just got back from a trip in December where I got a $7/day cobalt from price line...of course after fees, it was about $35 for 2 days, but it allowed us to head downtown for a few hours too.

Anyone stay in a suite at the Venetian...specifically a Rialto or Piazzi suite? Wondering if they're big enough to sleep 4 comfortably, and if there's enough room to have a half dozen guys drafting in the living room area.

Cliff notes on where to go for my bachelor party? Done Vegas many, many times. Was a huge hard rock fan but I haven't stayed there is a couple years and I hear it ain't what it used to be.
This is an older crew - 35-40 mostly. Done palms, was ok (great clubs if you get the right night and have an in as I recall), don't want something boring like Venetian. Any suggestions?
