Vegas (4 Viewers)

Wife is going to a conference at the end of March. I'm gonna take my almost 2 and almost 4 year old and tag along.

Trying to decide on a hotel or a house. Thoughts?

Will spend 3 nights in Vegas. We are gonna extend the trip and head out to Zion for another 3 or 4 nights.

Went down to check on the SJS, I'm not totally sure how it's still open today. It's trying to be a knockoff of the Cosmo, and failing. Hard.

This brunch rave thing on Sundays is a big ####### deal. The scene is as nuts as anything you see late night at 2 in the afternoon. I'm not sure who started this, but it was genius.

The ratio of gamblers to non gamblers has never been worse for Vegas. Weekend nights the places get filled with offdee 6-7 dressed in nothing and on the lookout for their next free drink. Great for ### watching, but I can't see how Vegas can exist just being a club town.

If you want to sit in a sportsbook during a game you have two choices, wake up at 7 in the morning or tip the host 100 bucks a head for a reservation.

Loved Cosmo, great party hotel. Pool scene was cool, with plenty of places off to the side to hang away from the crowd.

Sounds like the Bellagio is the place to stay if you're doing Vegas just once. Ammiright??
I prefer the Cosmopolitan. Huge room overlooking the Bellagio fountains, swank vibe, and screw kits!!!
Wait, what? What's in this screw kit?
Condoms, lube, ticklers, other fun items. Pro-tip- be careful when handling the items on the vending tray. It senses when you pick the items up and charges your room. I got this fun notice when I had a charge for 20 sex kits on my final bill. I paid the charge and framed my receipt like a boss! :D

Vegas for gambling gets worse every year.
interesting. I wonder if that's because of so many other towns getting casinos of late.

For instance I'm heading to Vegas this week for a short getaway with my wife and if I want to go gambling I can just goto the local casino anytime I want... so I'm not going to get some kind of rush playing blackjack or craps or something.... they have better poker for sure, but i won't really have much time for that.

I'm using Vegas to see some cool shows, get a few nice dinners, and get a nice massage at the spa.

Even on my last dude's trip out there years back we loved the clubs, we loved the food, loved the script clubs, but no one is gagging to gamble when we have casinos at home.. that's just not a reason we goto Vegas.

I agree with this. Each trip we find something fun to do. I'm headed there for the Super Bowl and we are doing an ATV tour. Mind you, I've been there probably 30 times over the last 20 years. Back in the day I'd pound the gambling for sure. I guess I've aged and matured a bit which has varied my tastes.

Yep. Pretty much only gamble when I don't have time to party. In the summer it's pool parties, pass out, eat, get ready, and then go to night clubs. I'll gamble at the tables in the club, but very rarely gamble other times.

Agreed re: Gambling. If I want to gamble, I have Tunica 40 mins south of here. It's a hole compared to Vegas, but I can easily find $5 craps tables with 100x odds, fast drink service, and an insanely generous comp structure.

Last trip to Vegas I realized 3 days In I hadn't actually gambled yet. My first trip I was at a table within 30 mins of dropping my bags in the room.

Previous trip was a bachelor party with a bunch of guys who love craps and occasional hit & runs at high limit Wheel of Fortune slot machines (odd but I rolled with it). We would occasionally take over a lower limit table for a couple hours earlier in the day or before dinner.... but usually were busy with other stuff after dinner.

With a raise looming it appears as if FFPC is a strong possibility in 2015

Haven't been since WCOFF '09 (or was it '10?) and itching to go. One-night stop-over on my drive to Cali from MN doesn't count.

:blackdot:

What are you, 20?? ;) JK... I got hammered somewhere for daring to love the Cosmo and suggest it. I have yet to remember all the zillion 20 somethings I saw when I stayed there...

lol...not even close but notice we hung away from most of the crowd. :)

Screw those that knocked you for loving it. Who goes to Vegas to be mellow?

Not me but I guess it would be too much for the 30 something married folks. Yep, you pick your spots in there. That still is probably my favorite hotel with Venetian a close second. Plus the Cosmo location is bar none.

Looks like I'm planning another Bachelor / Bachelorette party in Vegas this August. Both groups going out at the same time. I'll be one of prob 5-6 guys, and then there will be 10-12 girls. Fly out Thurs PM for some laid back gambling. Fri will be guys and girls groups going out separate (shake joints and such). Sat will be both groups partying together. Sunday fly home.

The groom is a very good buddy and has tasked me with planning. The Maid of Honor was in vegas for a bachelorette party this summer and I got her in touch with some buddies to took great care of her group so now the bride is wanting me to line up their schedule as well.

Time to start doing some legwork..

30min Video of Kaskade's "Summer Lovin" Residency at Marquee Day Club.

There are far far worse ways to spend an afternoon in vegas, IMO.

30 minutes? First time I was in Vegas I dropped my bags in my room and I was probably playing my first hand of blackjack within 10 minutes.

That said, I agree. Vegas gambling isn't what it used to be. Along with having local casinos all over the country, I think it has a lot to do with the table minimums are so high these days. When I first went to Vegas in 1994, you can find $5 blackjack tables everwhere, and in many casinos you could play $2 craps. Now its really hard to find a $5 craps table or a $5 blackjack table on the Strip. Last time I was in Vegas, I stayed at Ceasars Palace, and I think the lowest minimum craps table was $15. That's ridiculous. Your gambling budget needs to be $2000 or more to play a $15 craps table or a $25/hand blackjack. That's just too steep for my taste.

My first trip there....all I did was gamble, eat, went to clubs, and slept at the pool. Today, there are so much cool stuff to do besides gamble.....shows, nightclubs, stripclubs, golfing, pools, spa, and various daytrips that you can take.....also great restaurants. You can go to Vegas, have a great time, and never gamble.

Now when I go to Vegas, I only play 1-2 NL holdem and toss in an occasional bet on a sporting event.

When i went to Vegas with buddies fairly regularly back in the early aught's that was one of the appeals... head down to the Sahara and/or the Strat or something for $1 or $2 craps with 10X odds... a good experience where we got some free beers and there were low enough minimums that we could play for a few hours and enjoy ourselves and while we'd probably still lose at least we had proper bankroll to survive for awhile.

Now granted.. the average dude gambling in a vegas casino probably isn't hip to proper odds or bankroll management.. but I think even a ####### realizes that if you don't have several hundred dollars that a $15-25 table is going to mean a short night unless you get pretty lucky early.

Then again.. even at my local casino at the $5-10 dollar tables you see the random 21-25 year old plop down with $20-50... or sits down at $3-6 hold 'em with $50 and you realize that money is as good as gone.. and quickly...

I'm simply not entertained by non-poker gambling anymore..... If I were Vegas I'd accept that, embrace the revenue streams they do have which are plentiful, and move on.

Does anyone have tips for a good flight back from Vegas to NYC (JFK/Laguardia/Newark)?

Getting there is easy, getting home seems to be more difficult.

Is it a foregone conclusion that club kids are bringing in enough scrilla to keep the town going?

I mean that club they put in MGM cost 40 million. That's a lot of bottle service.

I can't think of a guy who would be less fun in Vegas.

"Gambling? Eh, I dunno. That's -EV."

"You guys wanna hit this mutual fund conference over at the convention center?"

"Yikes. You see the prices on that menu? PASS."

"Wow, you guys sure do go overboard here in his town. Maybe we should dial it down a notch?"

Circus Circus to stay? I don't know, I haven't been in there since the 80s so not sure what it's like now. It almost doesn't matter imo be it a hotel or a house with 2 very young ones along. Just take plenty of fun things for them to do inside wherever and go for the place you and your wife want to go. If you are comfortable with hiring hotel babysitters then maybe stay in one that offers such service so you and the missus can escape at least one evening you are there.

Yep. Just got back from this weekend and got pretty frustrated. Buddies and I golfed each morning, and every sports book we tried we had zero luck.

You can also get married in under an hour on about every corner!?

Where's her conference? If on the strip, a house could be impractical. Vegas really isn't the greatest place for kids, but hotels with some kid-friendly things include:

Mandalay Bay - nice, big pool. Aquarium. Is on the far south end of the strip so doesn't get too crazy.

New York New York - Has a huge hershey store thing and located pretty decently near some shops which aren't outrageous. Also a roller coaster.

South Point - Bowling alley and movie theater, I think.

Planet Hollywood - has shops which are decently kid-friendly.

Also, end of march you're going to hit march madness.

Mopey update, but I just had the ####tiest weekend in Vegas of my life. Lost everything ####### thing I did. Got two-outed twice on the river with pots totaling over 2k playing poker. Lost every sports bet I made (0-7). Sat down and lost 10 hands in a row playing blackjack. Heck, even lost the credit card roulette at the one decent dinner we did. Damn place gets depressing when you are getting pounded.

Have we been on a Vegas trip together? Because I think I've said 3 of those 4 things on my last two trips.

Sounds familiar.....because that was my weekend as well. Even went for a Sunday morning run to blow off some steam and half way in it starts poring rain :wall:

Not many Palms reviews. Any good?
It's a little off strip. I keep forgetting to check it out if not just to see the hotel that the Maloof's used to own majority in. I've heard the ghost bar is very nice with the views and all.

Way too far out. It paved the way for places like the Cosmo. Haven't been in 3-4 years, but rumor is since maloofs left that it is a quasi bunny ranch just off the strip. girls prop you left and right.

Is your wife a medical coder by any chance? I passed on that conference, only because I didn't need the continuing education units. Anyway, the Planet Hollywood suggestion is probably not a bad idea if you want to stay near the conference. But imo, if you're going to have a few days of family vacation afterwards, you might as well stay at Paris, where the convention is. Of course, if that's the wrong conference, please ignore. :2cents:

that's what my wife told me

Hilton has a timeshare property behind the Flamingo that is a good place for families and close to everything. Rooms are nice and iirc, they have a nice pool. Might check it out. HGVC Strip Hotel

Oh yeah, I stayed there once and it was pretty nice. Again though would likely require scan ride to and from conference. That can be annoying.

Tons of stuff to do in the area with kids.

Botanical gardens

This trail is pretty cool and you can easily get to the hoover dam from it too and can easily get to a hot spring you can sit in from it too. Easy drive to Lake mead too where you can feed the carp

Red rock is awesome.

Valley of fire is about an hour away, but well worth it.

Tough beat story warning:

This summer I lost with a straight flush at Aria playing 1-2 NL - no bad beat jackpot. Felt like I was in a movie and had been set up. Needless to say I went straight to the bar and got hammered.
