What means this SJS?Went down to check on the SJS, I'm not totally sure how it's still open today. It's trying to be a knockoff of the Cosmo, and failing. Hard.
It's the newest hotel on the strip. The far north end of the strip. I think it's what the sands used to be. Opened maybe 2 months ago to no fanfare. What means this SJS?Went down to check on the SJS, I'm not totally sure how it's still open today. It's trying to be a knockoff of the Cosmo, and failing. Condoms, lube, ticklers, other fun items. Pro-tip- be careful when handling the items on the vending tray. It senses when you pick the items up and charges your room. I got this fun notice when I had a charge for 20 sex kits on my final bill. I paid the charge and framed my receipt like a boss!Wait, what? What's in this screw kit?I prefer the Cosmopolitan. Huge room overlooking the Bellagio fountains, swank vibe, and screw kits!!!Sounds like the Bellagio is the place to stay if you're doing Vegas just once. Ammiright??
interesting. I wonder if that's because of so many other towns getting casinos of late.Vegas for gambling gets worse every year.
I agree with this. Each trip we find something fun to do. I'm headed there for the Super Bowl and we are doing an ATV tour. Mind you, I've been there probably 30 times over the last 20 years. Back in the day I'd pound the gambling for sure. I guess I've aged and matured a bit which has varied my tastes.interesting. For instance I'm heading to Vegas this week for a short getaway with my wife and if I want to go gambling I can just goto the local casino anytime I want... so I'm not going to get some kind of rush playing blackjack or craps or something.... they have better poker for sure, but i won't really have much time for that.
I'm using Vegas to see some cool shows, get a few nice dinners, and get a nice massage at the spa.
Even on my last dude's trip out there years back we loved the clubs, we loved the food, loved the script clubs, but no one is gagging to gamble when we have casinos at home.. that's just not a reason we goto Vegas.
What are you, 20??Loved Cosmo, great party hotel. Pool scene was cool, with plenty of places off to the side to hang away from the crowd.
JK... I got hammered somewhere for daring to love the Cosmo and suggest it. I have yet to remember all the zillion 20 somethings I saw when I stayed there...

Screw those that knocked you for loving it. Who goes to Vegas to be mellow?
Yep, you pick your spots in there. That still is probably my favorite hotel with Venetian a close second. Plus the Cosmo location is bar none.

30 minutes? First time I was in Vegas I dropped my bags in my room and I was probably playing my first hand of blackjack within 10 minutes.Agreed re: Gambling. If I want to gamble, I have Tunica 40 mins south of here. It's a hole compared to Vegas, but I can easily find $5 craps tables with 100x odds, fast drink service, and an insanely generous comp structure.
Last trip to Vegas I realized 3 days In I hadn't actually gambled yet. My first trip I was at a table within 30 mins of dropping my bags in the room.
Previous trip was a bachelor party with a bunch of guys who love craps and occasional hit & runs at high limit Wheel of Fortune slot machines (odd but I rolled with it). We would occasionally take over a lower limit table for a couple hours earlier in the day or before dinner.... but usually were busy with other stuff after dinner.

There are far far worse ways to spend an afternoon in vegas, IMO.
When i went to Vegas with buddies fairly regularly back in the early aught's that was one of the appeals... head down to the Sahara and/or the Strat or something for $1 or $2 craps with 10X odds... a good experience where we got some free beers and there were low enough minimums that we could play for a few hours and enjoy ourselves and while we'd probably still lose at least we had proper bankroll to survive for awhile.30 minutes? That said, I agree. Vegas gambling isn't what it used to be. Along with having local casinos all over the country, I think it has a lot to do with the table minimums are so high these days. When I first went to Vegas in 1994, you can find $5 blackjack tables everwhere, and in many casinos you could play $2 craps. Now its really hard to find a $5 craps table or a $5 blackjack table on the Strip. Last time I was in Vegas, I stayed at Ceasars Palace, and I think the lowest minimum craps table was $15. That's ridiculous. Your gambling budget needs to be $2000 or more to play a $15 craps table or a $25/hand blackjack. That's just too steep for my taste.
My first trip there....all I did was gamble, eat, went to clubs, and slept at the pool. Today, there are so much cool stuff to do besides gamble.....shows, nightclubs, stripclubs, golfing, pools, spa, and various daytrips that you can take.....also great restaurants. You can go to Vegas, have a great time, and never gamble.
Now when I go to Vegas, I only play 1-2 NL holdem and toss in an occasional bet on a sporting event.
YoWife is going to a conference at the end of March. I'm gonna take my almost 2 and almost 4 year old and tag along.
Trying to decide on a hotel or a house. Thoughts?
Will spend 3 nights in Vegas. We are gonna extend the trip and head out to Zion for another 3 or 4 nights.
Can't help with kids in Vegas but look in St. George for a place to stay near Zion.YoWife is going to a conference at the end of March. I'm gonna take my almost 2 and almost 4 year old and tag along.

Circus Circus to stay? I don't know, I haven't been in there since the 80s so not sure what it's like now. It almost doesn't matter imo be it a hotel or a house with 2 very young ones along. Just take plenty of fun things for them to do inside wherever and go for the place you and your wife want to go. If you are comfortable with hiring hotel babysitters then maybe stay in one that offers such service so you and the missus can escape at least one evening you are there.YoWife is going to a conference at the end of March. Yep. Just got back from this weekend and got pretty frustrated. Buddies and I golfed each morning, and every sports book we tried we had zero luck. Some other comments
This brunch rave thing on Sundays is a big ####### deal. The scene is as nuts as anything you see late night at 2 in the afternoon. I'm not sure who started this, but it was genius.
The ratio of gamblers to non gamblers has never been worse for Vegas. Weekend nights the places get filled with offdee 6-7 dressed in nothing and on the lookout for their next free drink. Great for ### watching, but I can't see how Vegas can exist just being a club town.
If you want to sit in a sportsbook during a game you have two choices, wake up at 7 in the morning or tip the host 100 bucks a head for a reservation.
You can also get married in under an hour on about every corner!?I can't think of a guy who would be less fun in Vegas.interesting. I wonder if that's because of so many other towns getting casinos of late.Vegas for gambling gets worse every year.

"Gambling? Eh, I dunno. That's -EV."
"You guys wanna hit this mutual fund conference over at the convention center?"
"Yikes. You see the prices on that menu? PASS."
"Wow, you guys sure do go overboard here in his town. Maybe we should dial it down a notch?"
Where's her conference? If on the strip, a house could be impractical. Vegas really isn't the greatest place for kids, but hotels with some kid-friendly things include:YoWife is going to a conference at the end of March. I'm gonna take my almost 2 and almost 4 year old and tag along.

Sounds like Woz has sunk $300k into the place already. Is it a foregone conclusion that club kids are bringing in enough scrilla to keep the town going?
I mean that club they put in MGM cost 40 million. That's a lot of bottle service.
Have we been on a Vegas trip together? Because I think I've said 3 of those 4 things on my last two trips.I can't think of a guy who would be less fun in Vegas.interesting. I wonder if that's because of so many other towns getting casinos of late.Vegas for gambling gets worse every year.

Sounds familiar.....because that was my weekend as well. Even went for a Sunday morning run to blow off some steam and half way in it starts poring rainMopey update, but I just had the ####tiest weekend in Vegas of my life. Lost everything ####### thing I did. Got two-outed twice on the river with pots totaling over 2k playing poker. Lost every sports bet I made (0-7). Sat down and lost 10 hands in a row playing blackjack. Heck, even lost the credit card roulette at the one decent dinner we did. Damn place gets depressing when you are getting pounded.

It's a little off strip. I keep forgetting to check it out if not just to see the hotel that the Maloof's used to own majority in. I've heard the ghost bar is very nice with the views and all.Not many Palms reviews. Any good?
Way too far out. It paved the way for places like the Cosmo. Haven't been in 3-4 years, but rumor is since maloofs left that it is a quasi bunny ranch just off the strip. girls prop you left and right.Your Mother said:Not many Palms reviews. Any good?
Is your wife a medical coder by any chance? I passed on that conference, only because I didn't need the continuing education units. Anyway, the Planet Hollywood suggestion is probably not a bad idea if you want to stay near the conference. But imo, if you're going to have a few days of family vacation afterwards, you might as well stay at Paris, where the convention is. Of course, if that's the wrong conference, please ignore.Wife is going to a conference at the end of March. I'm gonna take my almost 2 and almost 4 year old and tag along.

Not a lot of houses really near the Strip. If your wife has stuff at 8 AM, she might have to leave a rental house at 7. Rush hour in Vegas is no joke. Why is a house impractical if the conference is on the strip?
Oh yeah, I stayed there once and it was pretty nice. Again though would likely require scan ride to and from conference. That can be annoying.Hilton has a timeshare property behind the Flamingo that is a good place for families and close to everything. Rooms are nice and iirc, they have a nice pool. Might check it out. This summer I lost with a straight flush at Aria playing 1-2 NL - no bad beat jackpot. Felt like I was in a movie and had been set up. Needless to say I went straight to the bar and got hammered.
