Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

I know the EA NHL threads were a couple weeks back, but is there anyone on here that thinks the EA NHL game >>>> 2k NBA game?I am ready to trade in Madden after 2 playings and I need to know where to throw my crappy trade-in credits towards (FU, G-Spot!!!).
I might do the same with Madden. How much will Gamestop give you?

You would be better served selling it on Ebay for 35-40 bucks. Gamestop will give you maybe 20 tops and turnaround and sell it for 45 bucks. And I am getting NBA2K11 tomorrow no doubt. And to the other poster NHL 2011 is fantastic as well.

Just downloaded team fortress 2. Pretty fun game.
I assume you mean on PC. If so, what's your Steam ID? I'll add you to friends. I'm slowly getting back into playing TF2.
Im really not sure...I'll add you when I get home though.
Wow, I have not played TF2 within the month it was released. I would be flat-out awful, but willing to hit it with some FBG's. We have a Vent server. I am TheEyeDoc on Steam if you want to add me as a friend.

played it on the 360 when the orange box first came out. Good game, but i was never blown away. I think its mostly because there was no teamwork. didn't love the maps either. I reserved TF2 at EB games back in like 1999 when it was first announced. (back then, the game play was essentially what the Battlefield franchise eventually became)

Eventually, i just gave up on it. Pretty sure they still have the $10 i put down. It would be fairly awesome if i could find the receipt.

Just picked up FIFA 11 on the 360 and Uncharted (the original) on the Ps3. I would grab TF2 on steam (depending on the price) if a bunch of us got into it.

Still play Bad company 2 a couple times a week. Mostly playing to keep my FPS skills up in case the Vietnam expansion is worth buying :blackdot:

I started it up this weekend for the first time since last year's Halloween event (although, I did play a tiny bit during the Soldier vs Demo event). I'm having to kick the rust off myself.I'm like TLEF and have was waiting on TF2 since the old version of it, and was even on an exclusive beta list for it, although with its delays, I never saw it. Unlike him, I never preordered it. Last year was the first time, and so far only*, I ever preordered a game in my life. As far as the price, TLEF, Steam tends to have great deals on it for every update, although I don't know when the next one is. There was one this past weekend and it was on sale then. It's normally only $10 now. Even though I still prefer the original Team Fortress / Team Fortress Classic to this one, I'm still happy with paying $50 for it. (*unless you count buying Orange Box early on Steam to get early access to Team Fortress 2)

I have similar thoughts about TF2. It would be fun if you had a bunch of guys rolling together in a team, but that just wasn't the case. And the maps were horrible compared to the present and past generation of games. The best way I can compare the maps would be to Bioshock 2 levels, which says everything you need to know.

Anyone else playing in the closed beta?

Even though it's closed, I think they're still giving out keys.

This is pretty sweet!

Just a notice for those who've signed up:

There's a big ol' patch coming (supposed to be 9/6? 9/7? something like that but I can't find their forum thread about it) that will add more maps and the American tanks to the list. When that happens, they're going to "soft wipe" (or whatever the hell) the servers. You'll somehow keep xp, but I'm not sure how they're going to go about it.

If you just started the beta, please don't be upset if you have to re-roll the same tanks you've been stuck in for a day. It's okay, you'll be out of them quickly again

Definitely second selling used games on ebay, I do that with all of mine. Usually can get 30-40 at least for most newer titles, sometimes even more if it's a popular game and not too old. I was even able to sell Lego Star Wars, which I had forgotten about and found in a moving box, a 3 year old or so game for like 5-10 bucks recently.

Yep, just sold Fifa 10 for 25 bucks on Ebay two weeks ago since i was getting Fifa 11 and that was useless to me.Did not want to buy another game for a few months until Dead Rising 2 was going for like 20 bucks but the NBA 2K11 got me thinking with that Review IGN gave it

Alright, I haven't played a B-Ball game since the days of Dreamcast, but, FWIW 2k11 is utterly fantastic. You get the feel of an actual TV production, the graphics are jaw-dropping, and the gameplay is very realistic. Just have to figure out the controls and I'll be on my way.

I literally had goosebumps when 23 was coming out of the tunnel.

:own3d: :lmao:

Maybe it's been a long time, but, I am in awe.

ETA: It just keeps on getting better. WOW.

So I guess I need to pick up NBA 2k11? Is it THAT good? Why is it so good? I liked 2k10 but wasn't head over heels.

anyone know where i can check what my online record is?

looks like you just play a quick match online and there is no place to see your total stats for your games u have played

Those of you that are anxiously awaiting your opportunity to play Duke Nukem Forever should be aware that 2K Games today announced that picking up a copy of Gearbox Software’s Borderlands Game Of The Year Edition, releasing October 12 for PC, PS3, and 360, will grant you early access to highly-anticipated Duke demo.

Yep, those that pick up the GOTY version of Borderlands will receive a key to the “Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club” granting its members access to various exclusive goodies including the demo before it is publicly released.

Only thing – we don’t know when that will be… 2K only states that the demo will be released “prior to the retail launch of the game”, which is currently slated for sometime next year. Also, we don’t know how much lead time the fancy pants First Access Club members will have before the Duke demo becomes publicly available.

Of course, we’ll keep you informed, but those of you on the fence about Borderlands Game Of The Year Edition might have just received your purchase incentive.

NBA2K11 is pretty awesome. It's not that easy though. I haven't played since 2K8 though, so I need to relearn how to dribble. Lots of passes getting intercepted right now too.

I was able to do the first Jordan Challenge. Score 63 points, 6 assists, and 50% FG against the Celtics. I barely did it though. I'm not sure how I'll be able to do some of the other challenges at all.

Nothing like a developer to give the finger to those who purchased the game already, helping it become a "Game of the Year" candidate in the first place.

Just got NBA 2k11I am done with new games until next year
Very :goodposting: Same here. Done for a very long time with any new games. Between my offline franchise in Madden 11, Online NCAA dynasty and now NBA2K11 I am booked solid. And I still play MLB the Show 2009, and NHL 2011.I have no time for anything else video game wise. And i have so many great games I have yet to play (Dead Space, Bioshock, Metal Gear 4 which I am 25% done with but put down with all the sports games coming out).I have no need to buy any new games for a while.I am playing NBA2K11 on Pro/Sim with real FG/FT% and 12 minute quarters.I am getting ultra realisitc scores and stats. The defense is insane on this version, rotations work to almost perfection, and if you don't run set's and quick plays 80% of the time you will lose. Bottom line.I have not even fooled with any sliders. i will play at least 2 dozen games before any tweaks (if any) need to be made to the sliders.I love the Sim Style over default. I also love the real FG/FT% vs the shot stick bonus. Makes the game play much more realistic. The game top to bottom may very well be the best console sports game of all time. I rank it right there with MLB The Show 2009 and NFL2K5. It may surpass both as I keep playing. It is like watching a real game and the feel and control is amazing. I did not like 2K9 becuase it was clunky. This game is night and day from NBA2K game. It blows away 2K9 and smokes Live 2005 (last B-ball game that I actually liked and played to death). It's that amazing.

Ok as far as running plays. You will have to call plays for your team to run and the cool thing about 2K is they have a blue circle that your PG or whomever your bringing the ball up on the court with needs to go to to start the play. You can even have the option to have the play diagramed for you while you play so you know where every one is going and who to pass to, where to screen etc. It is very easy to get the hang of. Plus you also can use your d-pad to call a quick post, quick screen, quick pick, quick isolation. If you try to iso-motion and play one on one you will get beat like a red-headed step child. This is very sim like. It is not a dunk fest and a PIP (point in the paint) fest. You need to set up your guys and hit the open man coming off that screen or box and drain some jumpers. In Association mode you can run full intra squad scrimmages to plractice your plays or just run the plays in practice with no opposition. It is truly amazing and highly reccomended if you want to play this game to it's fullest potential. Also you can use the d-pad and use your shoulder button to call specific plays for specific players. Amazing quick and easy. The controls are very intuitive!

As far as sliders you can turn up or down every aspect of your skills and the AI skills as well as fouls etc. I have not touced them as I don't think you can truly get a feel for what you need to to tweak till you play at least 12-20 games. Then if after a good sample sice your struggling to hit threes or drain mid range jumpers for example you may want to tweak up that slider to make it a little easier for you. I suggest you start on Pro/Sim

What I mean by Sim is you can either play default, casual or Sim. Sim will give you the best challenge and keep it from being an arcady type of game. I am a Sim sports gamer and i want it to represent as close as it can to the real thing. So my settings are Pro level with Sim style game play (sliders).

As far as Real FG% and FT%, in the past you could only change FT% to either using the shot stick (Right stick) and it will based on the timinng of your release (and knowing the players release is vital) or base it on the true FT% of their skill level in shooting FT's.

Now you can set this for their shots as well. In the past it was all about stick skills with FG% in 2K. Now you can shut that off and base it on players ratings.

That is what I want because I am more a sim player. When it is based on stick skills I was able to drain 3 after 3 after 3 becuase I nailed the timing down. Now I am getting the more realistic stats on FG% and 3PT%. it is not easy to drain threes. Even the best 3PT shooters are hitting them like they should in real life. With shot stick I was hitting 60-70% of my 3's with high rated 3PT shooters. I hated that.

BTW you can download the full manual with all the iso/shot stick combos for dunks, layups, post up moves at

www.2kgames.com/manual/nba2k11

I did and I have all the post up moves iso moves....it is awesome.

Go to the practice mode too and work on all of them. they have a in depth tutorial.

THIS GAME ROCKS!!!!!

Hmmm...I own both of these for xbox but at that price, and considering how I've upgraded my pc substantially...it's tempting.

There is apparently a pretty active FBG following, so I figured what the heck. It is kinda like Steam just drafts $5 out of my account everytime they throw a decent game up for super sale. :kicksrock:I have added Company of Heroes and its expansions, Empire at War, Force Unleashed and a couple of others in recent weeks.

2k11 is great and all but I don't like passing system at all to many passes are lollypopped and I can't figure out how to make a bounce pass as opposed to a normal pass. Other then that and some canned animations when trying to get a buzzer shot off quick this game is great

Hmmm. Those actually look pretty cool. I was planning on holding off on this one since KZ3 comes out so close to it, but I may have to change my plans.

Passing has been kind of difficult on my first few games. I try to do icon passing when I can though. I agree that the type of pass sometimes is wrong and gets stolen. The computer ballhawks pretty well too.Should this get its own thread?

Took the plunge and ordered a new laptop. My first new pc in 8 years! Civ 5 & Starcraft 2 here I come!

That steam deal for Left for Dead 2 sounds pretty good too. Loved the 1st one on xbox, but could never convince my friends to play it enough to make it worthwhile to buy the 2nd. Zombies! ARRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH!

Post your ID if you get SC2... could use more FBG's to play with.

If you do have any problems running Civ5, I've found running on DirectX 9 is much smoother than 10/11. You lose a little bit of 3d graphics but I'm not playing this game for graphics.

Go for it. We have quite a few FBG L4D pc gamers. Of course, all DLC is free on pc and you have the mapping community for infinitely more campaigns and maps for $0 and 0 MSP extra on pc.

What's the consensus on Medal of Honor vs. Call of Duty: Black Ops? I know neither has been released yet (MoH comes out next week), but what's the word on the street from the gaming sites, betas, etc.?

I'm trying to decide if I should buy MoH next week or wait until next month for CoD.

I think CoD:BO will likely be the FBG choice. But then again I don't know much about the MoH game.

I haven't been a big fan of Activision of late and I hate what they're doing with the CoD franchise. That said...My choice would have to be CoD: Black Ops. I really really wanted to like Medal of Honor and I may be speaking too soon, but I've hated what I've seen from the betas in multiplayer. I expected a Battlefield meets Call of Duty clone, but what I got was Call of Duty Hardcore server campfest 24/7. Very disappointed. I think I may boot up the open beta today to see if it's the same as the previous betas were, just in case, though. But even with the more arcadey play of Black Ops, you'll find fun there.

Bounce pass ... hold LT trigger when passing.

I haven't been a hardcore pc gamer in a long while, but for $10 bucks it's worth trying out for fun. I know I won't be able to hang with most people running a custom rig or anything.Core i5 - 2.4GHz4GB RAM500MB HDNvidia G310M
