Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

How many hours is Arkham City? It seems huge in a good way.
the actual story missions were shockingly short. but there is a TON of other stuff to do.
:goodposting: It actually doesn't take that long to complete the campaign, but between the Joker puzzles and side missions and combat/stealth challenges, there's a huge amount of other stuff besides just the main story. Oh, and have fun with the AR training. A couple of those were almost controller-breaking.

I gave up on AR training 3 for the moment and went to go find the joker.

Played both and but I enjoyed Arkham Asylum much, much more.

So Sony just patented technology to not allow second hand games..... Unless they lower the price of new games or somehow add a small fee to play used games, could this be a huge blowback to the industry?

It would only if they got MSFT and Nintendo to go along with it. I don't see it happening.Unless the next gen consoles don't have an optical drive at all and the games are all cloud based.

Isn't this basically what you get when you are locked into Steam? I mean, it's really convenient, but you give up the ability (as far as I know) to ever re-sell your games.

There's agenda out there that may change this in the future. Some countries have ruled that it's a right of the consumer to resale games, or play resale games. I'm still not sure how that will affect Sony. Most of those countries are in Europe.

So I have never played Bioshock. Am I missing out here? Don't do many FPS anymore, but just always heard good things. $9.99 for both 1 and 2 on steam right now.

I loved it and I typically hate linear FPS. I am not a story guy at all in games but the Bioshock game (number 1 specifically) really sucked me in.Note that Bioshock 1 will be given out free with Bioshock 3.

FYI - I grabbed FTL last week from Steam and it's a fun throwback game (8 bit, real time/turn based space game). It's also challenging as hell with a ton of replay value. Definitely worth it for $5 or less. Great laptop game.
Several people on Joystiq have mentioned it as one of their favorites of 2012.
If you love old school game check out Hotline Miami. This game's soundtrack in simply incredible.

So I just got started on Far Cry 3 last night. Do I need to buy the bow, or do I get it for free relatively early on by climbing the radio towers? My understanding is that it's a good weapon to have for stealthy gameplay, but I don't want to drop $950 on it only to get it free two missions later.

Finished up Kingdoms Amalur last night.

Much shorter than I first thought (someone earlier in the thread warned that what seems huge at first quickly comes to an end).

I completed pretty much everything I could find, which amounted to about 197 missions and picked up the Platinum trophy along the way.

Spent 87 hours to get to the platinum level. At about hour 82 I hit the level cap, so it was only a small amount of time I spent not building the character.

The games difficulty level is very easy. On the hardest mode, I died 4 times in the 87 hours of play. I could die 4 times in 5 minutes playing Demon/Dark Souls :)

I give the game a solid B+. Story was meh at best, fighting was excellent, building of character was extremely wide and varied, plenty of fun loot, although the locations looked too similar after a while but that happens in most of these open world games.

That's an excellent price for the games. I'm in the camp that love the games (especially the first), but have met many that don't like them. I say for that price, you have to try the first, at least to say that you have played one of the most critically acclaimed games of all-time.As for the controls, you can play it like a PC shooter or you can use a controller (can't remember if it's native controller support, but there's a workaround if there isn't). Both are Games for Windows Games, which a lot of people hate, but if you have an XBox 360 account, it's very similar, including achievements, which will go onto your XBox Live account.

So I purchased Arma II: Combined Operations (on sale on Steam) so I could download and play DayZ (Zombie post-apocalyptic mod.) Downloading the game/installer now.

Currently out of town after playing four of five chapters in The Walking Dead. I am Jonesing big time and can't wait to be along for the ending ride. Love Love Love the game!!

Don't recall when it became free, but you really only need money for ammo (and money is easy to come by.) Buy the bow - you won't regret it.

I got it really early on. Id save the dough for attachments.

It seems like the riddler stuff isn't as clear as it was in asylum. At least you knew whst riddles to try and solve by area in the first game.
It's more Metroidvania style in Arkham City. You'll definitely have to return to most areas to get some that you couldn't get before once you unlock new items.

I HATE the ones where they require you to hit a trigger and then run to some other location, throw a batarang, all before the ticker runs out. ANNOYING because while the controls are pretty good, they aren't perfect.

Once you're able to do controlled explosives, these get to be easier. Some can't be reached with the explosives, so those aren't the ones I mean. Also, after getting used to the remote batarang, that can be fun to use.

Played my first multi-player Torchlight 2 with my son - very fun, though it is taking him some time to get used to the mechanics of the game.

Someone please explain Steam to me. I have a PS3 and a PC.
It's a game library for PC. Buy the game through valve's client, download the game through the client, play the game through the client. They have frequent sales on games, especially indie titles, and have good bundle deals on franchises.

Really enjoying Torchlight 2 right now. Fun little diversion. Have played 3/4 classes. Engineer seems a little OP.

Just finished Assassins Creed 3. It was good but some of the others were better. Thinking about going back to Skyrim again and of course Black Ops 2

Started up Uncharted a couple nights ago. Got Uncharted 1,2 and Infamous 1,2 with the PS3 pack this christmas. So far its decent. Good production value. Game wise its nothing I haven't done before. Feels like a modern Tomb Raider. The only thing that makes me laugh is his ridiculous parkour jumps he makes. The man has inhuman arm and hand strength to make this finger leaps. Other than that, pretty entertaining so far.

45 hours into AC3 trying to get 100%
I'm probably going to go for this too. Ac3 probably isn't the best in the series but along with 2 has been the most engrossing for me. Im currently buried in great games. AC3, halo 4, nba2k13, and xcom (which I've barely had time to fire up but have enjoyed so far). Black ops 2 is still sitting unopened as well. Plus, I want to go back and run through the ME3 and skyrim DLC.
