Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

My only words of advice (and I don't think I'm giving anything away here) is that the impact of your choices from the first two games is felt throughout ME3 in ways both big and small.

The problem people had was that the ending wasn't as influenced by those decisions as they were led to believe or interpreted on their own.
I am not sure I understand this; do you mean this literally as in ME3 uses game save info from ME1 & 2 to alter the story you play?
That's correct. The cutscenes and conflict resolutions (i.e. the Genophage, the Geth vs. Quarians) have differences based on your decisions from ME1&2.
Wow. Very cool. So that means you really have to play ME1 & 2 before jumping into 3 if you want to get the full experience. It also means I am going to take a lot more time making my decisions as I play 1 & 2.

Yes, but just remember that it is throughout ME3 that the changes are noticed. The ending really doesn't take them into consideration.

I'm glad to hear a good review of ME3. I bought the trilogy and stopped after ME1-2 (to play GOW, needed some Kratos time) and I've been apprehensive about ME3 after reading angry reviews of the ending.
I didn't get to the ending until they had released all the "fixes" and I loved the ending. I'm sure part of it is in people's heads. Once you've gotten a bad impression of the original ending some additions here and there aren't going to totally change your opinion. That disappointment can't be un-remembered.

>Hmmmm...I kind of want to play through to the original ending to see what all the outrage is about before going on to the sanitized Shawshank e

nding.
As I understand it, the "new" ending isn't actually different, it just contains some additional scenes that fill in some large holes the original ending left out. Watching the old ending won't be different scenes, it will just be shorter.
The additional stuff is more of a post-script.
There were some clarifications...

Like everything with Joker and the Normandy.

Quick question about ME3 though. Do you still have the 50% handicap on War Assets? IF so, have they lowered the requirement so you don't have to play multiplayer to get additional ending scene?

This discussion has me fired up for ME3 now. Thanks dudes. I might skip a second playthrough on GOW, even though it is pure button mashing bloodthirsty goodness.

ME2 and ME3 are just awesome in about a thousand different ways.

ME1 is great because it sets up the universe you're playing in. And the scene with Vigil on Ilos is cool as cool gets.

Who is worse:

[] People who defend the ending to Mass Effect 3

[] Holocaust deniers

Could be a close one.

Speaking of which, a few weeks ago, I had a teen patient wear in a "I saved the universe and all I got was a crappy ending" T-shirt. I walked in, took a look, said, "Mass Effect huh?" He laughed and we comiserated during the exam.

Did it go something like this.

"Gargle, gargle, mffft, gaarrggghh"....And then he said something?

No, but the exam went like this:

Me: So, which is better? 1, 2 or 3?

Him: 2

Me: I don't give a flying #### what you want. I am giving you the Rx I want, and you will take it, like it, and believe it is what is best for you.

Anyone ever play Metro 2033? How's the story and gameplay for a fps? I have heard it is more a survival fps when played on normal ad hard difficulties.

I played it and enjoyed the story very much. If you like Russian video games you will love this one. It is kind of like Splinter Cell with the ability to shoot out lights and hide in dark corners, but other times you need to be more aggressive (like in the library). A very fun game and cheap.

Good enough. Good story but the multiple endings are based on things you're unlikely to pick up in gameplay. You know something is happening but no way you'd stumble on it naturally.

Just watched the trailer for Star Trek on Steam.

Awful.

Really Awful. All cut scenes that look horrible with no hint about gameplay. Put something better than that out if you want me to drop $20, let alone $50.

There was a Star Trek game years ago that was really good. Based on the Voyager universe. Cannot remember exact name, but fun pc shooter.

Say what you want about the Mako, but I loathe this vehicle in ME2. No tutorial, dying every five seconds. No clue WTF I am supposed to be doing with this POS. Guess I am going to have to do something I hate doing, go watch a walthrough. Because I am clueless WTF I am doing with this thing.

The Mako is more than a PITA for maneuverability but it is kind of fun. Even though I generally a completionist, scouring each planet for ore deposits is not going to be part of my active game time. If I stumble on them, fine otherwise it doesn't seem worth it.

I also need to say that the story in ME, so far, is absolutely amazing. An impressive amount of work must have gone into that.

Me1 mako was fun. Me2 it was pointless.

FYI -- Tomb Raider is 50% off on PSN this weekend only. Granted, it's probably going to hit $30 everyplace in another couple of weeks anyway.

I did the side quest where you have to free the guy that was connected to the AI and is acting as a virus. There was a "challenge" or whatever in the level where you could collect the six datapoints. I had to not complete it because, in several cases, you had to take on two turrets with the vehicle and detroy them to get the data. I kid you not, against two turrets, that thing lasted maybe 5 to 6 seconds before exploding, even when I tried straffing left and right. So I basically just had to skip it and go on with the main part of that quest line.

I have so far recruited Garrus, Jack and Mordin. I am doing the quest now to get the Krogan. I have no side quests except a grocery list once I go to the Citadel. I have mined a few systems and have more minerals than I know what to do with. But that's mainly because I don't really have any upgrades available. Need to find a few good markets or whatever so I can buy a few. I think combat is harder in this game, but that's not a bad thing. I like it. Also, unlike ME, I actually feel like me taking the time to assign power use is actually useful. I do hate the ammo thing though. My assault rifle often runs dry, forcing me to go Heavy Pistol.

I never played ME1, but the Mako sections of ME2 were godawful. I truly don't understand how the rest of the game could be a top-notch AAA production, while the vehicle-based segments were like some broken Atari 2600 game.

Glad to know it isn't just me. I thought maybe I just sucked at it. Are there any upgrades that make it stronger or make it's gun do more damage?

It was tacked on as a DLC add on and is only used in a couple of the DLC missions, which is probably why it feels unrefined.

Yea TC, just learned that. Didn't realize the mission I was doing was a DLC! Here is what found on it:

We’ve been replaying “Mass Effect 2″, and thoroughly enjoying it. Or we were, at least, until we came to the mission.

That one mission. On Aite. “Overlord”. DLC on the XBox, included on the PS3 version, and sheer pain no matter how you slice it.

If there was ever a moment when a planet cracker would be handy to have, it’d be for this, so we could wreck this whole planet, throw it into the sun, and watch it burn while laughing merrily.

“Mass Effect 2″ is a great game, absolutely. The overall game is superb. But the “Overlord” side mission is an exercise in wanting to punch everybody who came up with it until they cry true tears of remorse.

It’s the worst side mission ever. And we’re counting escort missions in that.

Help please.

I have a Gateway FX 6840-15E

In order to run triple monitors I upgraded to a 750 watt psu and replaced the 5750 gpu with a 5850.

I'd like to run a 4th monitor off of the onboard graphics but I don't know how to enable it.
I know its in the BIOS but I've never dicked around with that stuff.

TIA

Good lord.

Just finished the Infamous collection in my whirlwind tour of the last 7 year's worth of PS3 exclusives. IMO, Infamous 1 was pretty bad (slightly improved version of Crackdown, which I hated), but I stuck with #2, which I thought was decent (either that or Stockholm Syndrome had set in at that point). Much more excited to start the God of War Saga tonight.

Wow i thought Infamous was flippin awesome and Infamous 2 was friggin blah
I'm not a big fan of that type of game in general, but 2 had more personality and more interesting plot decisions, plus a few cooler powers. Other than that the game play was identical.

I thought Infamous 1 was good but nothing special. You could see the potential there, but it was still raw and very repetitive. Infamous 2 was awesome and criminally underrated. Its not as good as Uncharted 2, but its to Infamous 1 as U2 is to U1.

Bump for the day shift.

Also the MoBo is a H57H-AM2

I just finished up Bioshock this weekend. As everyone said it was a good game and i really enjoyed it. The only problem was my fault in that I played it at easy, and it was just too easy, yet i still never turned it up. Really enjoyed the story though.

Looking for what I want to dig into next, and am thinking about running through some of the storylines in The Old Republic. I've never done an MMO before, and really am not interested in the MMOness of it, but thought it may be fun to just run through some of the storylines in there to get some star wars fun. Anyone done much with this game, is it worth playing for a bit? Any suggestions on your favorite class storylines?

Just finished Mass Effect. A little clunky on the interface, particularly managing inventory and driving the Mako but still a very, very cool game.

On to ME2

Yea, we shoulda warned you - Bioshock is easy on hard so that sorta sucks.
