Another complaint about EA and their handling of ME3 is the fact that the only way you can get your Galactic Readiness rating above 50% is to 1) Buy Mass Effect: Infiltrator ($6.99) for your android or ios device, 2) Get Mass Effect: Datapad (free) or 3) Play multiplayer.

I have not finished the game yet, and am definitely still seriously enjoying the gameplay and storylines, so I don't know how important Galactic Readiness is but that seems like a pretty bush league policy, particularly charging $6.99 for Infiltrator.

Don't even worry about it. The "best" ending is about the dumbest ending anyway, IMO.

 
I spent quite a bit of time playing ME3 multiplayer because I really wanted the "good" ending. Needless to say, I wish I could have gotten that time back. I know they patched the ending, but still.

The multiplayer isn't terrible. It's just that it pulls you away from the main story, and the fact that your readiness steadily drops off means that you can't just do a few matches here and there. You have to completely step away from the story and devote yourself almost exclusively to multiplayer for a while. It's one of the single worst game-design decisions I can think of off the top of my head.

IMO, the best RPG ever made. If they can get even close (and by this I mean the writing and story) with the next chapter it will be outstanding.

Cool. Thanks. I already DLd the extended endings which lowers the amount of War Assets required to get all endings, now I am not certain if I want to build up enough assets to get the "good ending". It's going to happen because I am a semi-completionist so it looks like I will accumulate enough assets even without increasing my Galactic Readiness.

Still a bush league move by EA.

I think it's since changed that you don't need to have nearly as many War assets to get the "Good" ending anymore. That was in the first 3 months you needed a ridiculous number like 6k or something. Now it's like 3500 I think which is totally attainable within the single player game even with a 50% handicap.

The ##### about multiplayer that made it even worse was at the time, your readiness decayed 1% every 12 hours. You only get about 1-4% per match and a match took 20-30 mins to play. So if you played for an hour, got about 5% readiness, 2% of that would be gone by the next night you went to play. It took me a full month to get my readiness up to 100% playing an hour here and there.

 
If I read correctly, the new good ending only requires 3100. So easily attainable is you do most the side missions. At least that is what I have read. I hope it's true. I'm sitting at around 1800+ right now with the 50% penalty. i.e. I have like 3700 right now total. That's after having just completed Citadel II. Given that, after completion of that I picked up FIFTEEN new side missions before I even undocked from the Citadel, I'm feeling fairly optimistic.

Edit: Confirmed from the wiki: The required Effective Military Strength rating to achieve all possible endings is lowered from 4,000 to 3,100.

I remember I enjoyed it, and the little floating skull thing. That's about it. The level of detail that some folks here can remember concerning 20 year old games always amazes me. I'm like the anti-Rainman.

Spec Ops is just about identical to Uncharted in terms of how the shooting mechanics work. Not sure if that helps or not, but it's not COD or Battlefield.

Played a little bit of Uncharted, not much, remember it was rough aiming, but i thought the world interaction was approperate for console. Does it have that feel to it, or is it just straight 3rd person shooter?

I played this a couple of months ago, and I said in this threat at the time that it's basically Uncharted with Delta Force guys instead of Drake. If you don't like Uncharted's shooting and cover mechanics, you won't like Spec Ops's mechanics either. (I loved both, but that's me).

Still plugging away in Dark Souls - it's so hard I can only play in spurts. I think I'm only half way through. I have the black knight sword but I'm trying the great scyth.....

GTA isn't the only open-world sandbox anymore.

OK, so the new Xbox is officially the Xbox One. Pretty boxy design, not what I expected to see.

Voice activated, and recognizes your voice. "XBOX ON" will turn it on, recognize who it is, and go to your own home screen.

Really integrating with home entertainment and live tv. actually watching your cable through the xbox with access to a secondary app that can be skype, fantasy stats while watching sports. They are almost 20 minutes in, and haven't even talked about games. They are really positioning this to be the living room hub.

I'm a PS3 guy, but this looks slick...

Yes, you can use a wired xbox controller. If you don't have a wired one, you need one of these for the wireless controller.

 
Yea, it looks a little boxy (reminds me of an older VCR, really), but I guess "small" and the tech they built in is prettymuch impossible.

In terms of motion, I am wondering how it distinguishes what you "want" it to do, and just movements / sounds you make while playing or otherwise being in the room. In other words, I don't want to be bounced to the home screen because I waved my arms during a firefight (or yelled to my wife "Is so and so home?")

That said, the TV / online / Skype / etc integration (along with the voice recognition) is very impressive. They are positioning this as a "must-have" living room machine.

Think I said it earlier, but Microsoft is moving towards whole home management systems with their software. This fits right into that strategy.

It was. They tripped with not embracing Blu-ray, of course, but their vision did work out to a degree, with the streaming apps/etc. I realize smart TV's and some bluray players can do this too, but the xbox turned out to be a pretty decent stand-alone entertainment system.

 
Was not impressed with the PS4, even less impressed with the X1. Unless they completely blindside me with a price point that is lower than the cost of an equivalent PC I couldn't justify buying one.

While thinking about the announcement for a few hours, I remembered that I too was unimpressed with what the XBox 360 offered when it launched. However, a year later when my original XBox broke, I decided to go with an XBox 360. At the time, it was because the 360 allowed backward compatibility with the XBox games I owned. But the point here is that I was simply unimpressed with what it could do at launch. I felt that the launch titles didn't look or play better than what I already had. I think I'm gonna have to do the same this time around and wait to see what really sticks out after several months.

 
My biggest hope is that the PS4 makes the ADHD generation dump all their PS3 games on to the used game market, flooding it. That way I can go out and get a year or two worth of PS3 games dirt cheap.

I figure they'll release the consoles before Christmas. All the kids will be lining up to trade the games in so they can pre-order the PS4 stuff. I don't think it will be hard to hit it. And once the prices explode, then it's time to move on.

I have a launch 360, and if a new one wasn't coming out, I'd probably be buying a new one anyway just to get a bigger HD, HDMI outputs, and a power source that doesn't take up a ton of space behind my TV and weigh 15 pounds. From my perspective, any new features the XB1 has are gravy.

I would guess that at launch you would not be able to go out and buy a PC that costs less than $500 that is better than both the PS4 and XB1.

When the PS4 was announced you could build the same exact system for 600. X1 has similar specs. Neither console is using new hardware.I doubt either will be less than 600. By release you will be able to build a better system for the same price.

While that may or may not be true - plug and play is FAR more attractive then constant errors, incompatibility problems and crashes. Getting #### to just run on a PC can be a daunting task. I used to be a staunch PC supporter but PC games ALWAYS play like PC games, especially sports games.
 
All I want is a slight upgrade on gaming power and most importantly - no load times.

Loading screens justifier great games like fallout and skyrim. Accident go into the wrong door - oops, that's 2 minutes of my life gone. :loco:

I used to think like this before I got a PS3. In fact, it was one of the draws of consoles for me. But it didn't take long to realize that PS3 bugs are quite common. And that PCs get patched way before the PS3 version does, if the PS3 version ever gets patched at all. Skyrim and XCOM just being two recent examples.

Compatibility can be obnoxious some times, small price to pay when you can game literally however you want. I'm not trying to start a console war I'm just saying people should really stop supporting this kind of crap they roll out. They could have done something innovative, they could have made console gaming more attractive. They have done neither over the past 10 years. Still making consoles with old tech, still charging more than they are worth, still locking down the hardware and software. Charging developers to release patches. Valve gets it, if your gonna build a console that is essentially a locked down PC, make it expandable. That one year old technology is gonna be six years old five years from now. If consoles survive into a 9th generation, we won't be seeing them for another 10 years.

Agreed. I've played some retro games on those Atari systems they sell nowadays for cheap... the graphics blow, the gameplay is unsophisticated, but you know what, you're playing the game in 3 seconds after you turn it on and you don't stop playing until you turn it off.

I totally get that the market has evolved to have more immersive story-based games, but it does suck that the only place to get quick gameplay is on tablet or smartphone.

 
Waiting for more information on Steambox. I hope the price point is going to be reasonable. Then it's game on.

I'm not sure. It's still rumored this year. There are going to be several different units from different manufacturers, with Steam providing the guidelines that each need to follow. At least that's my understanding. I've seen the one Mad Cow mentioned, but there is supposed to be other options that haven't been announced. And from what I gather, it's not actually an official Steambox. With a $999 price point, I don't see a point of them attempting it.

The only pricing I have seen is from 499 for the base model up to 999 for the top end model. But apparently a lot of people are going to be making these so my guess is it will drift a bit further down.
