Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (2 Viewers)

Wildstar comes out this week.

Been playing in the beta a fair amount. Gameplay is really fun with no tab targeting.

The attitude of the game not taking itself seriously is really enoyable.

From the voice overs of "Holy #### you Leveled Up!" When you level (plus other random comments) to random comments after you die as you resurrect like "If you don't succeed at first, die, die again".

Housing system seems pretty fun even for someone who normally would never get into that.

If the bombs ever end up falling and I somehow survive, I'll be sure to set up my post-apocalyptic lifestyle just like Dukov.

That crazy Russian has the right idea about things.

Watch the trailer. Seems like World of Warcraft. It's not my cup of tea but I can see why people would like it. It seems setup for a companion app, which is something I'd like to see more games do.

Far Cry 3 - Top notch game play and visuals but the story is completely uninteresting. The story missions are actually solid and fun to play but the cut scenes to get to them are entirely meh. The game play gets an A+ from me but I am a story driven gamer and this one never captured me.

Worth it to buy and play but not GOTY material like it was marketed.

What does everyone think about companion apps?

I think there is a lot of potential there.
As long as its not mandatory, and adds something to the game overall. I quite liked the AC4 companion app, the ship missions were at least as good as most iPad games.

I'm not a trophy hunter or whatever you call it (Platinum and all that stuff). But I do enjoy hunting down all the relics, memory cards, etc and so on. My game just glitched me out of some of it I think. I did a base mission and walked in the base main room (whatever they are called) and saw the glowing laptop. It wouldn't let me access it. So I had to jump a chair and get up on the table to try and get closer. I bumped it, and it now is no longer glowing. Didn't give me credit for the card, so now there is one I won't be able to get. I then went outside to do a bulletin board mission at the same base. It was unusual in that it had TWO hunt down and knife the pirate quests on the same board. I failed first try when I was killed. When I respawned back at that same base, both mission were gone, no longer accessible. I checked the map to see if they had somehow "moved" but nope, gone. So I have a few things I know I won't be able to complete now, which sucks just a little. I did get all the towers though, and only have two bases left to take over. Then all that is left is relics and the main story.

Very rare that I spend for a game when it's first out but Watch Dogs looks very entertaining to me. May have to shoot the lock off my wallet for his one.

Spent 2 hours last night looking for the family. Finally got sick of it and searched online. Read the whole story. .. Didn't feel like playing that much....

So a very unproductive day...

Yeah it helps to go to the right place to start with. It's really a very easy mission if you can talk your way through it.

So normally I would have some Fallout news. Well this weekend I thought for the holiday I'd try something else to break it up a bit. Seriously considered giving Borderlands 2 another go but I just couldn't get into it at all, couldn't even boot it up. MS has been pushing Saints Row the 3rd as a free download this month so I said what the heck. Well despite a little over the top silliness here and there I am thoroughly enjoying it. Seems like a more accessible GTA. Here's what I mean. There is this mission to follow a guy in a helicopter. I have done this kind of mission in GTA and it is always longer and harder than it needs to be. You get through a whole bunch of stuff and you think OK about there and no it's still a lot more oh and you only have 5 seconds. In Saints it's actually over at that point. Now that's not to say every mission is doable without failing as they aren't. I failed a couple but they just seem more doable in general. Who knows maybe I'll do better with GTA when I go back to it.

For a free game all in all a winner.

Not sure about the laptop issue but with the bulletin board missions you can only have one queued up at a time, as soon as you accept one the others disappear until you finish that one.

Assassin's Creed III - Just started and so far I love the visuals, which seem like a big improvement over the already excellent visuals from ACII. The story also seems to be pretty solid, I like how they try to make the backdrop historically accurate from a larger perspective while inserting the Assassin's into the details.

I am having similar issues with fine control of the character, particularly in combat. My character does not seem to switch weapons efficiently, or doesn't do it at all sometimes. And unless/until I develop the fine timing control combat will likely be pretty button mashy. I am also having trouble figuring out certain types of stealth kills (like corner kills) but that should improve with time.

I also find it a bit odd, not necessarily in a bad way, that you are pretty much given five bad### Assassin companions pretty early on and they pretty much destroy any enemies in their path (so far).

I think I am going to enjoy this one but it's still early.

Is Mass Effect the most discussed game (series) in this thread?
Fallout making a go at it.
Is that good or bad?

Discovered Rivet City and the Jefferson Memorial last night. Oh and Grey ditch with the fire ants.... Yeah those were fun.....not.
Did do the mission to end the ant infestations? It gets betterworse
No. Great. No.

I killed like 4 ants after being set on fire more than I could count and got out of Dodge to live to fight another day. Ants are the suck. When I was doing the find the Family stuff last night and I dropped into the tunnel in the gouls office I heard a sound that I thought was ants and I was just ready to turn the game off but it was mirlurks. Still, I hate that sound, and I hate those ants.

I spent a bunch of time wandering around this weekend. I think I am level 8 or level 9ish.

The worst part about the Ants is they eat up a LOT of ammo.

Should I be saving the mini nukes? I used up a bunch when a gaggle of super mutants cornered me in a dead end.

Only recently realized that drinking water from various sources really gets your health up fast (with RAD being the drawback). Comes in handy in a pinch.

After you finish Gray Ditch the ant menace is greatly reduced. Still these days I can't seem to get out of Megaton without there being multiple creatures attacking me at the gate. Ant's, molerats, giant scorpions, ants, pretty much everything but a deathclaw so far.

I have about 30 of the mini nukes. You find them everywhere. I wouldn't worry too much about using them.

Biggest problem with AC3 is the main character's lack of charisma. AC4 is a little better in this regard, but they are still struggling to find a new Ezio.

I got Wolfenstein: The New Order when it came out. Decent but nothing special so far. Much better story that I was expecting but I wasn't expecting much. It's pretty smooth but it doesn't really pull you into the game.

Controls are pretty annoying sometimes. They don't feel natural and switching weapons is a hassle. There were a few little map glitches that were annoying but nothing that stopped gameplay. The other problem is there's only a master volume so music and SFX will drown out dialog sometimes and there's no way to fix it.

7.4/10 so far. I'm guessing close to the mid point of the game.
I'd give it an 8. Solid gameplay, good guns, stealth works well - I like it so far.

A little trick on switching weapons - don't worry about landing on the single or dual wield, as it's a snap to change. Once I realized that, it made a big difference (as it effectively doubles the weapon's place on the wheel).
right there with you, boss. sometimes it pays to read the tutorial. speaking of, i love how they have that in separate tab. you see the popup once, then can always access it again if needed.

also, I ordered Infamous: Second Son for PS4 on sale at Amazon today. Stupid $40 price point.

Can you report back if you get this?

I am torn on purchasing this now, or after my move is complete in August.

I liked ACIII alot, but it got panned by alot of people out there (compared to other installations in the franchise)

Waiting to pick up AC4, as alot of people on this board and elsewhere have sung it's praises.

I'm still early in the game but, beyond what appears to be a relatively steep combat learning curve, I don't really see what's not to like.

Regarding the combat learning curve, in many ways I often like that it takes time to get good at combat. It should take time IMO and I get a great deal of satisfaction when it finally clicks and I start stringing together mad combos (The Witcher 2 was a great example of this, tough to figure out but a total satisfying blast when it clicks).

Some slight changes to PS+ policies.

Free games in June

On the PS4 - Trine 2: Complete Story and Pixeljunk Shooter Ultimate

On the PS3 - NBA 2K14 and Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time

Sounds like that Sly Cooper game is pretty fun.
So the games we already dl'ed are safe but July onwards they disappear? Im hoping I Can dl NBA2K14 and keep it.
I think it's saying that it'll be a hard and fast 1 month window to purchase the game. Once you've purchased it, however, it's yours as long as you're a PS+ member. Meaning, you can download it later and not have to keep it on your HD.

Many titles that came out as free were available beyond a one month timeframe.

Well...I didn't see that coming. That was a pretty long prologue.

I just picked this up on the ps4 yesterday. Game is loads of fun, city seems huge, hacking is pretty unique and fun to explore with. Reviews are critical of game since E3 the game looked even better, but that is a moot point now, the current game looks beautiful and plays well. Only negative is the driving and collisions are pretty bad compared to the excellent driving from gta V, but that is a small nitpick. There are loads of side missions and mini games included in the game that seem to be really fun.

I would recommend a buy for this game since it seems to have tons of content

Did some work last night.

Started the game from the last save point which was at my megaton crib in the middle of the find the family mission. So went back to the train depot to find the family. Did that. Talked to vampire dude. Conviced the kid to go home, got he vampire dude to give me the blood drinking power and got the town to make a deal with the vampires. Town gave me a bottle of scotch. Woo-hoo. So that entire mission got completed. Rather dull and uninteresting. I'm beginning to think I should just go bad karma and steal everything I can and kill everyone I can. Maybe in another go around.

After that I had my choice of several missions. I chose to find that Bily kid's dad. So, yup - the ant mission. Kill the ants. Whatever it was called. Oh my effing gawd are those things beyond annoying. You know a video game hit some kind of nerve when you enjoy killing the enemy more than you really should. Cleaned out the town. Took a ton of ammo. Searched the properties and got all the goodies. Then made my way into the underground to kill the nest. Found the doctor. And the panty/nighties (what the heck with that?). Talked the hitman out of taking the panties (again, WTF?) and then went on the search and destroy for the ant colony. It took every ounce of my fake video game indignation to not kill the queen ant. But I didn't. Used up almost all ammo of many different kids clearing out that entire mission. Finally got it done. Took the super power ant perception power. And then I had to find the kid a new home. Went to Rivet City and frankly got annoyed trying to find one specific person on that darn boat so I quit at that point.

But not before accidentally stealing something in front of a security guard and getting into an all out shootout with a fricken army over a piece of glass. Yeah, negative karma stuff sucks too. Eh, what can you do.

Still having fun. Good game.

Haha, yeah, didn't want to say anything before because I wasn't sure where you were. When I hit that point I think "I didn't see that coming" was my exact response. The "bad" guy you start out playing is probably my favorite character in that game. Never liked Conner. I did like his mentor though, wouldn't mind seeing a game of him starting out.

What aggravated me most about the game was the lack of polish. A couple times in a cutscene you'd see your character part way in the floor. A lot of times when you do the lockpick game, the pick is like 4 inches away from the actual lock. Just seemed to lack that polish you normally see out of a AAA game. Didn't really notice those issues again on ACIV. I also never got into the economy stuff or ever got good at the ship to ship in ACIII.

As far as the story and basic gameplay, I enjoyed it a lot. The Tomahawk is probably my second favorite weapon in the series, behind the hidden blades of course.

where does this one start?

I never discovered the panties thing  I wonder how much I am missing.

Right now I am in a love/hate relationship with the loot system. Mostly hate. The time it takes to scour through garbage is kind of a downer. I mean, I am literally playing a game that involves picking through the trash for stuff.

on the upside, I drank from a urinal the other night. that's a video game first.

The robot factory mission was interesting.

At first, I was wondering why it was so easy. Just molerats and bugs. Then, I activated the robots. Ended up stealth boying my ### out of there quickstyle.

Find the family is the end part of the Arefu story line. Girl in Megaton gives you a letter to deliver to her family in Arefu. You go there. Other missions ensue from that. From what I gather, the whole entire point of that side mission is to discover one train station, learn how to not get your leg ripped off by bear traps you can't see and get some super power to be able to drink blood.

Yeah

I definitely liked Haytham which is why I didn't understand why you didn't like the main character. I never thought he wasn't the main character.

I still don't know what happened to Haytham or why the other guys became so "bad" or maybe that is AC's way of saying that it's all just a matter of perspective.
Haven't been in any ship battles or started homesteading so I have no idea about those aspects but it's a fun game so far.

Anyone playing Watch Dogs? I started in yesterday but haven't really done too much of the actual campaign--I'm still enjoying just hacking around the town and practicing my driving a bit since I fret that will be more important down the line.

Mario Kart 8. Played for about an hour BEFORE work this morning. My son woke me up as he knew that there was a midnight release on the digital copy. Fired it up, and it is glorious. Tracks are extremely polished and well done. Just pure fun and joy. Best way to explain it.

I'm picking this up today. Can't wait.

Just finished Dead Space 3. Was pleasantly surprised and it was a solid game. Not as scary as the first though, as with the Resident Evil series it has moved away from survival horror to more action horror.

I've been playing Sleeping Dogs. Decent story and GTA style gameplay but the controls and movement (including driving) are clunky and the combat is simplistic like early AC - it's all about the countering. Worth a couple of bucks if you like those types of games but nothing overly special.

I downloaded the new State of Decay DLC this morning. New map, more guns, etc. My son is going to freak out when he gets home, and I told my wife to take credit for buying it.

I rule.
