Video games...what ya playing? And what are you looking forward to? (4 Viewers)

so when you use the rope....do you need to run around the beast in circles to tie up his legs?  yeah, i know, stupid question.......
No....not like a Star Wars Snow Speeder taking down an AT-AT.

Just fire 3-4 ropes right at him....it automatically ties them down.

Level 40 now and a killing machine. The story is so top notch and this is why the game really is incredible. Combat, stealth, visuals and story. It's all in this fantastic game.

It is a Far Cry like structure with a far better story. Character driven. Amazing voice acting. Music is top notch. A brilliant game.

Pre-ordered Wolfenstein The New Colossus on Amazon (20% off). Drops in October.

Seriously can't wait for that!!!!

So I'm maybe 2 hours into Horizon Zero Dawn...  big   from me.  I can already tell this game is going to last me a LONG time...

also, would it be weird to add Aloy in the 'Women I find oddly attractive' thread?  She is 18.

For me, Tracer then Genji are the worst. At least against Reaper you can keep a distance. I'm on console but so aiming (from what I hear) is a lot worse.

I'm happy that I'm on the only Overwatch person on here anymore.
I'm still playing Overwatch almost exclusively. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone here plays on consoles.

E3 stuff -

  • Sony's crushing it.
  • AC Origins looks beautiful.  Hopefully this one plays better than the last few buggy pieces of crap.
  • Call off Duty WW2... can't wait!
  • God of War 4 looks like it's staying true to the earlier versions... should be awesome.
  • Days Gone - Hopefully it lives up to the hype.  I could see this one tanking though.
  • Destiny 2 - I'll play the hell out of this game.  Stoked to fight the super Cabal.
  • Skull and Bones - Super excited for this.  The people that made the sailing part of AC Black Flag are making a Pirate game for Ubisoft.
Time to start saving $$$

I wish I had more time to play. I still have a backlog of 2015 games that haven't been opened.
Ive been trying to find time to play Little Nightmares for two months... it supposed to be a 5 hour game.  Instead, any free gaming time has me fire up my old 360 and play the last released NCAA football game for an hour.

Maybe I am getting old and not to be a Debbie downer, but E3 has been pretty meh IMO. Spidey looks like Arkham with updated graphics and only a promise of "sometime in 2018" release date. Days Gone's trailer looks like yet another Uncharted or the Last of Us, I thought it was supposed to be open world? Also no release date still. Whole lot of sequels yet again.

Like others I have a huge backlog of games (I'm still playing Fallout 4) so no biggie, but nothing that really screamed ZOMG to me.

only exciting thing for me is battlegrounds coming to XB1.  My PC barely runs excel nowadays, and I've been wanting to play this.

Same here.  The first couple of minutes of the Spiderman demo had me excited, but then it turned into a very long scripted QTE sequence.  Lots of games have those of course, but I'm baffled as to why they chose that particular part of the game to show off.  Otherwise, E3 seemed to be mostly stuff that I'm kinda interested in but I could do without.

Edit; Actually, I will disagree on Days Gone.  If it is another Uncharted or the The Last of Us, that would make it a no-brainer GOTY and I would buy it on day one.  I'm not nearly that optimistic about this title, but a non-open world is no problem IMO.

Finally started Valkyria Chronicles.  Took me some effort to allow the story to develop but the game play has been top notch (once you figure out how to deal with the ####### tank).  Lots of fun for side-based strategy game players.

Good for you.  I tried this one, but man did I find it frustrating.  This is one of those games where I appreciate what they're trying to do and why it appeals to people, but it absolutely is not for me, and I bailed on it after 10 or so hours.  I think I was expecting another XCOM, and this is not that.

Glad you like it though.  I know this game has a strong fan base and I am in the minority on this one.

The XCOM2 expansion looks a little gimmicky (they're just sort of taking the "ruler aliens" bit from the DLC to the next level but will probably still be fun.

South Park: The Fractured But Whole will  be a day 1 buy for me, as I love the show and the first game.

Star Wars Battlegrounds looks good but I was extremely disappointed by the casual nature of the first one (cancelled my pre-order after the beta) so that will be wait and see.

Assassin's Creed LOOKS awesome as always, but I bailed on the franchise a while ago due to the convoluted story (midway through Revelations) and repetitive game play

Already pre-ordered Fractured But Whole even though I never played Stick of Truth. I need to get that done this year.

Assassin's Creed looks like more of the same. Right down to the 2005 AI not hearing a grown man crawling up and killing their buddy right next to them in broad daylight.  Pass.

When i say LOOKS amazing, I really just mean the graphics. They create amazingly beautiful environments for those games.  The AI has always been weak and the combat in the earlier games (the ones I played) was always a little too button mashy for my liking. I really just played the game for the settings, the puzzles and the story (until it just went too far off the rails for my liking).

AC London was really good, but everyone had checked out by the time that was released because Unity was such a disaster. They aren't Day 1 purchases for me but I'll definitely get the next one after it's first big price cut.

Your pre-order should get you a copy of Stick of Truth if I remember correctly.

I'm looking forward to this as well.  The last couple of years, I have had little time to play games.  Pretty much the only games I play any more are NBA2k and the latest shooter I've purchased.  Will probably only buy the new NBA2k and CoDWW2 in the next 12 months.

Some more info and demo footage came out today on Days Gone, made it look more open world. That was what was weird to me, the trailer yesterday looked very linear/scripted like a Naughty Dawg game. Supposedly the developer is planning on putting out an alternate to yesterday's trailer showing how you change what happens based on what you do.

After seeing more, excited for this game now. Unfortunately, still no release date yet, but that gives me time to catch up on my backlog!

Loved this game. Great story, too.

Yeah, I was going to say that Syndicate was actually a pretty fun game unlike a few of the others.  If you hadn't tried it and don't mind the AC format, I'd check it out.  I actually enjoyed playing it, unlike Unity that for some reason my obsessive compulsiveness forced me to finish...

Gotcha. It's not the toughest game ever but if you're a South Park fan, it's so much fun.
I had so much fun playing that game, really basic combat system, but it worked, and I just thought the overall look and feel and story/writing were flawless.  I think I finished the whole thing in 12-14 hours, so it's a pretty quick easy play.

Star Wars: Battlefront is $10 for the Ultimate Edition right now on PSN. I'm going to give it a shot at that price.

Recently built a PC (nothing impressive, kept the budget low on my first try) and I'm excited to catch up on basically a decade of games that I missed, maybe even longer. I've never been a computer gamer other than a brief period when I was a kid and I was obsessed with Age of Empires 2 and one of the old Total War games, as well as Balder's Gate 1 &2. Games like that are already filling up my Steam wishlist.

Really excited to check out these games so far:

Wasteland 2, Mount and Blade: War Band, Sins of a Solar Empire, and a whole bunch of Civilization games and Total War games that I'm trying to decide from. Plus some newer stuff like Pillars of Eternity, Tyranny, Banished, Grim Dawn, Path of Exile.

What do you guys recommend from this list, or games like this? My desktop isn't a potato but its nothing impressive, but I'm under the impression I can run all of this stuff plenty well anyways.

Is there much worry in the compatibility of the older games with Windows 10, if I get them through Steam?

Civ would be my recommendation but I'm on PS4. Civ seems like the easiest game to jump into. There's some gigantic games on your list in terms of depth, systems and maybe learning curve. Might be a bit overwhelming just it terms of getting back into PC gaming.

Yeah PS4 has been my console of choice this gen, 360 before that. I'm not worried about the complexity of the games, I was drawn to that type of game as a kid and I like the more complex/strategic games on console with RTS and turn-based stuff when I can find it (Divinity: Original Sin, XCom, anything with tons of mechanics and a deep inventory and RPG elements, etc.)

I know from what I've read and seen that all the games I've listed are totally up my alley. I was just wondering if any are truly exceptional compared to the rest or on the other hand, if any are fools gold and overrated. But any input is welcome since I'm new to the PC gaming scene and I've got a lot of games to catch up on. I've played all the big AAA titles on console already, for any that are cross-platform.

If you like total war try Warhammer.  That will blow you away.  Check the specs though.

Why do they still make qte? If I'm in a battle and suddenly have to just wait for a button prompt or worse a specific joystick turn while I'm watching some cool graphic sequence it really takes away from the sequence. Made me hate parts of "the force unleashed" as well as multiple other games. Let me watch the stuff happen and then get back to the game.

While I'm commenting, I want a Star Wars game that combines the open world settings of skyrim, the planet hopping of mass effect, territorial conquest of civ, with all the ships and space battles. That said, I'm a generation behind on hardware and still have a bunch of PS3 games I haven't played, but if this game exists (even outside the Star Wars universe) let me know.

Used to be Star Wars Galaxies. But that games been dead for years. Not sure how Old Republic is but I hear good things.

I think the QTEs are just a way to get out of making a compelling boss battle.  There aren't many groups that do boss battles properly - the dark souls games are about the only ones of late, but they're very difficult.  So if they don't make them overly difficult, it's hard to make them feel epic.

And horizon zero dawn makes almost every enemy encounter in the game feel like a boss battle
