If you are going to get another controller I'd get the pro controller instead of another set of joy-cons, unless you think 4 people will be playing at the same time fairly often. The joy-con can be split into two separate controllers but they are small and kind of annoying to use in that format. The only time I use the joy-con is when I am playing in handheld mode.

anyone on here play Splatoon 2 online? I think I am going to start ranked stuff this weekend. I have no idea how friends work on the switch, everyone's username is so generic so there has to be something else.

Fortnite is cool.

Downloaded and checked it out for the first time tonight, already have about 4 top 20 finishes, 2-3 top 10 finishes, and a 2nd place finish where I got greedy trying to pick up an orange (rare?) gun dropped by the 3rd place guy I killed, rather than watching my back. Damn, so close. I know it gets compared to PUBG just in terms of game mechanics but it seems much easier from what I've seen. I just play it patiently, skirting the edges of the map, then the edges of each circle, keeping the circle at my back. Have barely even built anything yet. Not racking up kills mind you, but I'm consistently (considering I've only played less than 20 times and 2-3 times I've been killed immediately upon landing) making the top 10-15 with less than 3 kills. I'm guessing that final 5-10 players is when you need to have your wall-building game on point. It's addicting though, that's for sure. Intense.

I can’t speak to difficulty compared to PUBG, but you can definitely camp your way to a top 10 almost every time. Just drop near the middle and hide in a bush and people will run by you all day. I’ve got like 60 top 10 finishes, but only 3 wins. I tend to play aggressively early to try and get weapons and building supplies off of people that’ll help endgame. Once I get into the top 10, depending on the lay of the land I will either build up, or I’ll camp low and let others finish each other off.  Building is important mid game. Get those brick walls up when shot at for protection!

Thanks for all the responses. Was going to go that route off the bat. As awesome as the Wii was, I found myself enjoying the games more with a "regular" controller. Maybe I'm old.....

 
Maybe I am not doing it right, but it seems like the leveling up in Witcher 3 isn't as quick as some other games I play.  Not a huge deal, but I am also noticing that I am running into more bad guys that are whooping my ### as I run around.  I played for about 4 hours and went back to White Orchard to take care of a bunch of ?s and stuff on that map.  I am in the second area now, but I am still only at level 4 and I am encountering groups of baddies that are 8-9+.   Still having a blast, it's just something I noticed.  

Also, I spent 6 points to level up with fast attack and Igni.  I played for about 3 hours before I realized that you have to assign traits that you want, so I wasn't getting those benefits.  :lol:   I have 2 or 3 more points, but still can't decide what to use them on.  I currently am using both versions of the viper swords with a stone in each.

Yeah, I found that in the beginning of the game also, seemed like most quests were far above my level and was getting my but kicked. Think I found I needed to follow the story a bit instead of adventure and I pretty quickly caught up.

That is what folks told me when I fired this up. Quests are to get "stuff," not to level up. Very little XP in these side quests.

 
So, Bloodborne. After a little encouragement from NewlyRetired, I licked my wounds from my first several beat downs at the hands of the Shadow of Yarhman and went in and kicked their arses. After that, I did the Yarhal'Gul Unseen Village. That was honestly pretty easy. So I went ahead and took out the Darkbeast Paarl on about the third try. Not sure what I'm going to do next, but progressing along I guess.

Quen is easily the most useful magic.   It lasts until struck, so you should always have it going.  I'd up it first if you haven't.

I was thinking about that for the next one.  The other ones don't seem as useful.  Maybe Axii for delusion a little later?

Axii is particularly helpful against alghoul.  When you hit them once, they have spikes that pop up on their backs and if you hit them again you take a ton of damage.  I killed myself on them repeatedly until I realized what was going on.

Axii will calm them and make the spikes go down.  As well if you have it high enough level you can just charm them and make them fight each other.

ETA: Definitely focus on Quen though.  You will end up using it 10x as everything else combined.  Every time you get hit enough to lose it or much of it, cast it again.

I've called the game roll-hit-roll-hit-roll-hit.   It's actually more like roll-hit-roll-hit-roll-roll away and restore quen-roll-hit

I will focus on those a bit more tonight.  I was just surprised how much different it was in the 2nd area as far as six level 9 Bandits surrounding me and taking me out in very quick fashion.  Seems like a lot of stuff I was bumping into was a bit higher than me.

Generally speaking, areas are level dependent.  If you have the DLCs you can wander into level 30+ stuff if you go to the right (wrong?) places.

No DLC, and just walking around the 2nd area (I can't remember the name - where the Bloody Baron was).   Not a complaint, just probably need to watch where I am going and make sure I am saving enough.

I played a couple hours last night and just did main quest stuff and leveled up a couple times, so as everybody said, that is the ticket more than exploring and taking out monsters.  I just think I need to balance it out a little when I play and still mix in a bit of wandering and getting in trouble.  I put 3 points in Quen, and you are right, that is a game changer (almost too much so) and I noticed the difference right away.  So now I think I have 5 in fast attack, 3-4 in Igni, and 3 in Quen.

Couple other thoughts while you have me thinking about it.

You kind of want to stick with either light or heavy attacks as it isn't worth filling out points for both.  And then you either want to go light or heavy armor to match as IIRC there is a big bonus to the similar attacks when wearing all light or heavy armor, via a skill I think.  Also the Witcher armor if you wear it, the Cat one helps quick attacks, the Bear one helps heavy attacks, and Wolf has other bonuses.

I found that several merchants never get rid of objects I sell them.  So the armor and weapon merchants I hit most eventually got such huge inventories that when I would talk to them and enter the sales screen, the game might lag 10+ seconds loading it all.  Never found a fix for it, so just be aware.  I kind of wish I hadn't loaded up the master weapon smith as heavily with sold items as it meant it took a long time to get into his crafting menu.

The oils that you can put on weapons for bonuses against a given type of creature, and they are not time based, they last so many hits, like 20. I am not positive, but think they only are used up when you hit that actual type of creature, or possibly if you apply a different type of oil. So no reason not to use liberally ones appropriate to the area you're in.

Also, oils and potions are automatically replenished when you sleep, all from a single resource type.  Basically to create the potion/oil the very first time you need the ingredients for it, but after that every time you sleep you are fully topped off at the cost of... I think it's dwarven spirits for potions and maybe something else for oils, or maybe it's for both.  You can look it up online easy if you don't know already.  So anyway, after you've crafted it for the first time, you don't need to stockpile the original ingredients anymore.

Creatures have weaknesses it is helpful to use against them.  A good example are flying things which you can knock out of the sky with that air-blast one.  Or with your crossbow, or a relic you find later.

Read the lore on the creatures. It tells you what is effective against each monster.

 
So I spent about an hour trying to play the new heist in GTa5. After doing so, the one hope I have for the new Red Dead game is for Rockstar to ADD A NORMAL FREAKING MENU TO THE GAME!!  It’s infuriating trying to navigate around between MP and SP and missions and money and everything.

On the + side, I got my first bit of sexy time last night.  :pickle: (in the video game)

On the - side, I am getting my butt handed to me by a couple of the monster quests.  Both are maybe 1 level above me supposedly, but both kill me in about 3 swipes and I don't get much more than about 1/3 of their health down.  I am sure I will get there eventually.  I will just do more stuff and come back.  I think I tried taking care of the one for about 45 mins straight.

I have to admit, coming from a Dark Souls background, fighting in this game seemed laughably easy. I could easily take on enemies in the red, so long as it wasn't to large of a group. But I can see if you aren't used to the side step, dodge, attack type of combat, it could be tough. I guess that's why they have the level recommendations! I think you'll find yourself getting used to it eventually. Repetition and all that.

I think the missions are the same as me, 1 more at the most.  But yeah, I stink at this type of combat since all I play is Skyrim/Fallout in first person and usually use stealth and ranged weapons.

This is the greatest thing ever. Perfect setting for Predator. A little corny in that cutscene but that’s fine. I love Predator. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to play anything right now. I hope they expand on this though. 4 vs 1 pvp because I definitely what to mess up some people as Predator. 

Thanks for posting this Launch. I would’ve likely missed it otherwise.

This is also the time when you need to look at your oils and such and see if there is anything you can create/upgrade to give you a hand.  Which ones are killing you?  We may have some advice.

Yeah, coming from Skyrim this can be rough, but you really get used to it.  I actually hate skyrim combat because it just feels so dumbed down and there is no skill to it in my opinion, where with Witcher you can't just stand in front of the guy and keep hitting the attack button with any hope to survive.  Espcially on keyboard it took a while for me to get one of the moves down, which ever one was on Alt key, took a while for my hand to get used to being able to hit that while in combat.  think it was parry, so I just did the space roll away for the first half of the game.  Became a little more effective when I could use both of them.

I did look at the entry and I had the oil needed, the sign needed, and I think I drank some potion that upped my damage for a certain time.  At that time I was at Level 11, and I think the suggestion next to the missions was Level 12, so I thought it would be a challenge, not 2 swipes and done.   The one thing I didn't have was the moon dust bomb - I don't have the recipe for that one.  

One of the baddies was for the mission Swamp Thing - I think it's something with foglets?   The other was Jenny O' the Woods, or something like that.   I think the sing for the wraiths and such is the Trap one that I haven't used and frankly have 0 clue what it does.  I stumbled on a noonwraith that was couple levels higher than I was while wandering, and I don't think I did any damage to that thing and was also killed right away.  

Since then, I have hit Novigrad and done some main story missions so I think I am at Level 15 and have 5 more points to add to my character.  I think I have stumbled on better weapons since then, so I might go back and try those Monster Contracts again soon and see if I have any more luck.  I have looked at some Merchants and didn't see the recipe for that bomb, so not sure what to do about that.  I don't use the Merchants a ton, and I am probably missing out on stuff because of that.  

 
PUBG on the Xbox is basically unplayable. The performance is attrocious(incredibly laggy, frame drops, awful draw distance) and the inventory management sucks with the controller.

Maybe it gets better once it's out of beta but right now is beyond brutal.

I actually got a refund on my copy. It wasn’t fun.  I’m back on Fortnite which I find infinitely more enjoyable to play. 

 
I've been playing Pillars of Eternity on PS4.  I like the game in general and how it's like Baldur's Gate and with a pretty long storyline, but the load times are killing the game.  It takes forever to just go into a building or leave a building, let alone go from one area of the world map to another.  Sometimes, especially when I need to explore different buildings or floors in 1 general area, it feels like I am watching a football game.  3 minute of playing time and you get to sit through 10 minutes of commercials.

My first impression as well, then I got burned out after the playing the heck out of it for a while and put it down.  Played again last night for a while and it is enjoyable, but not something I would pour money in to (no season pass for me for the first time in several COD games).

Gustav Cannon map is teh suck.

it is an issue on the PC as well.

I don't remember anything specific or extra difficult about the swamp thing mission.  As for the Jenny O' the Woods, I think you 100% need to use that trap sign.  Some wraiths "ghost" on you where you can't hit them at all, when they are inside that trap sign they be come hittable.  So I'm pretty sure you can't win that fight without it.  I remember that fight as it took me a lot of loads to kill it.

I can't imagine trying to navigate that game with a controller. I can barely do it with a keyboard.
