Waiver Wire & FAAB Discussion heading into the Week 2 games (3 Viewers)

Looks like a quiet waiver period for me. Usually I put up my FAAB bid plan and compare with you guys but I can't. The issue with Week 1 waivers is this: Are some of these guys better than your bench players? I'm in that situation in my 16 teamer, 4 bench + one iR spot.

Bench
Matthew Stafford/Caleb Williams QB (interchangable)
Michael Wilson, WR
Emanuel Wilson, RB
Marquise Brown, WR

I can't really justify Nailor or Tyler Johnson over Michael Wilson... Mattison over Emanuel Wilson is a hard sell too. I can't drop a QB right now either because Caleb is going to take a few weeks as the game is moving very fast for him. I guess the only pick I have is Indianapolis Colts D @GB, could be a sack field day with Malik Willis out there.

In one of my leagues:
  • Likely - 51%
  • Lazard - 35%
  • Bigsby - 14%
  • Mattison - 10%
  • Mayfield - 6%
  • Jeff Wilson - 6%
  • Demarcus Robinson - 5%
  • Pierce - 3%
  • LA D - 3%

Moves in my league this week:

Lazard 78.8%
Likely 75.5%
Aaron Rodgers 15%
Mattison 8.1%
Demarcus Robinson 7.5%
Bigsby 5.2%
Geno Smith 2.5%

12 team league Likely went to me (Andrews owner) for $31, next bid was $21 and $10. Bigsby went to me for $26, next bid was $0. Bucky went for nothing only because I had nobody to drop for him.

Ten team $31 won Likely and I lost out with $21. Have Andrews. Dobbins went to me for $36, then $7 was the losing bid. Jameson Williams, who I drafted and dropped, went to me for $26.

Yes

* Minshew
* Watson
* Brisset
* Nix

I’d be going after Geno for sure. He’s using his legs and has the weapons. Darnold would be a close second due to the weapons and offense as well. The rest of the guys meh

I’ve been scooping Wandale and Dortch types for dirt cheap in half and PPR leagues. Just seems like free points even if it’s dirty.

The two biggest players I’ve targeted this week are Likely and Fields- true ROS difference makers IMO.

Depending on your league, I also like Bucky and McMillan, Mattison is OK for PPR, BIgsby is also a must-add. I think Lazard also has sneaky cheap value.

Defenses are such a crap-shoot I’m almost considering dropping kicker and defense until Sunday morning.

The bids in my main league (12 team ppr) were very conservative here in week one.

I overpaid for Demarcus Robinson with 31% because I'm a believer in a month of production with Puka gone. No one else bid for him, so I felt a bit foolish, but I got my guy.

Got Likely with 16%, sniping the guy who lost Ferguson by 1 FAAB dollar. Lots of bids for Likely, but they were all way too low. I own LaPorta, so I only put in 16 to make sure no one got Likely for free. If I can't trade him, at least I have a nice flex ROS.

Got the Chargers for $1

Then after me the league members won with the following:
Tyler Johnson $15
Justice Hill $10
Alec Pierce $5
Tank Bigsby $5
Greg Dortch $5
Allen Lazard $1

Then someone got Mattison for free!

I passed on pickups this week, unusual for me. I just didn't see the value like we had with Puka/Kyren last year. Moves in my 9 man deep bench league:

Bigsby 23% (4 other bids also)
Mattison 16% (3 other bids also)
Dortch 5%
Parkinson 3%

Wilson, T. Johnson, Hill, Downs picked up for free

The only move I might make is picking up a backup QB - I have J. Allen as a keeper, and somehow I made it through the draft w/o picking one up. He carries significant injury risk and the only reasonable choice is Darnold or Carr at this moment, and Carr has the same bye week (12) as Allen, so Darnold. I could also wait for some backups to emerge, but I should probably have someone now at the expense of say, K. Herbert/Perine/Allgeier, probably Herbert.

$100 FAAB budget and $0 bids are allowed

Allen Lazard $21
Tank Bigsby $16
Alexander Mattison $11
Chris Boswell $3
Seahawks Defense $2
Colby Parkinson $2
Geno Smith $1
Joshua Karty $0
Samaje Perine $0
Justice Hill $0
Keaton Mitchell $0

My one league Mattison went for 40% and Likely 60% to the same owner. heavy spending week 1 but if you want your guy go get him.

In superflex, Aaron Rodgers was dropped for Likely.

Curious what other superflex owners would be willing to pay if you had a QB needy team. (Stafford, Herbert, Watson)

I feel like Aaron Rodgers sits right in the pack with these guys somewhere in most rankings, so not really sure it's an upgrade, but it is depth with potential upside if he improves, and especially with the desire to shed Watson. And as fellow Superflexers know, QBs on the wire are hard to come by.

I'd 100% put a bid on Rogers. was his first game back against a top D in SF. He will have better days and that offense will be better. So hard to say what FAAB to spend but it is unlikely a better QB will come up on waivers this year.

I also look at it this way, there might be a chance during bye weeks and injuries where you could trade Rogers for a draft pick or 2 to a needy team. Or maybe that team is you and you can play him as your QB2. I think Watson is in rough so you really only have 2 QBs I would feel comfortable starting.

I don't know your league but I would probably be fairly aggressive if you feel you need the QB.

Most of the teams are fairly sharp. But sometimes these players dropped from waivers Tuesday slip through the cracks a bit. As everyone checks out a little bit till Thursday game. We’ll see. I’m probaly going after him with 15-20% of my budget, and dropping Watson or a middling WR to get him.

Appreciate the feedback.

10 team league. Only one guy bothered bidding on Mason as all thought the CMC owner would go all in, which he didn't. Got him for 5%.
Always got to bid. I got D. Robinson for 4%. Bigsby went for 16% with the second highest bid being 8%.

I question how active this league is given the bolded.

Edited: Never mind, I see it's only a 10 team league. Everyone has stud RBs.

But we start 3 RBs. Auction league around since '97. Almost all originals. Very seasoned. Very active. Just goes to show you that you never know.
Lesson: Got to play to win.

Another reason why my post was initially wrong. 10 teamer and can't start 3 RBs.

Added Mattison to the end of the bench in PPR. He just seemed like the 3rd down and pass catching back in LV. With the way their team looked, they could be throwing all the time to catch up. Dropped Pop Douglas to get him so not a huge risk.

Not this week, but he will likely still be there next week.

Got Likely in both of my leagues, including one where I had the 11th priority. I'm pretty psyched.

Meanwhile, Njoku was officially declared out, so I was able to move him to IR and free up a roster spot. Curious to hear people's thoughts on who to pick up:

12-team PPR, start 2RB/WR + flex

Option 1: Pick up Parkinson. I'm definitely starting Likely this week, but with TE you often need as many dart throws as possible.

Option 2: Add RB depth. My starters are pretty strong (Gibbs/AJones) but my backups were super disappointing in Week 1 (Javonte/Herbert). Best options on the WW are Justice Hill, Chandler, RDavis and Corum. Leaning Hill because he seems to have a clearly defined role, at least until Mitchell is back. But Chandler is probably the most talented (relatively speaking)

First year in our league using FAAB $200 budget, although owners are experienced with it from other leagues.

This morning Mason went for $55 ($50 & $25 losing bids)
I snagged Tank Bigsby for $6 (no other bids) I was surprised there were no other bids

10-team auction PPR Superflex league.

Mason 43% (to me, the CMC owner. Yes, I should have bought him in the endgame of the auction, but I forgot. Auctions are chaotic.)
Likely 31% (I have Andrews and bid 19%.)
Parkinson 4% (to me, who has Andrews and Ferguson.)
DeMarcus Robinson 3%
Steelers D 2% (to me, who had the Bengals for week 1. Steelers will be my set-and-forget defense for the year.)

Bigsby and Jeff Wilson were FCFS pickups as soon as waivers ran. Those cost 1%. I got Wilson because I have Achane (and was outbid for Wright during the auction).

12-team PPR league.

Likely 62% (to the owner who dropped him just before Thursday's game; I bid 19%)
Tyler Johnson 33% (I bid 12%)
Chargers D 6%
Lazard 5%
Parkinson 4% (me)
Vele 1% (me)
Jeff Wilson 1%
Boswell 0%
Emmanuel Wilson 0%
