Waiver Wire guys who are surprising in camp (1 Viewer)

Under-the-radar guys at Giants minicamp

* Rookie tight end Kevin Boss of Western Oregon turned a lot of heads during the three-day minicamp. G.M. Jerry Reese said he always tries to temper his enthusiasm when a small school player "jumps out" on tape, but Boss has not appeared intimidated at all.

He credits Jeremy Shockey for helping him with the transition. During an OTAs a few weeks ago, Shockey took all the tight ends out for steak. The 6-6, 253-pound Boss caught almost everything thrown his way, and Shockey and Plaxico Burress are hoping he can help take some of the pressure off them.

* With Brandon Jacobs and Reuben Droughns both being bruising runners, the Giants are interested in finding a change-of-pace back. And that's where seventh-round draft choice Ahmad Bradshaw comes in. The former Marshall player slipped in the draft because of off-field issues, but Reese said he was worth taking a shot on with the 250th pick in the draft. Bradshaw looked explosive on several inside running plays and he appears to have excellent hands. It's still early, but you can tell that the coaches fully expect him to make the roster.

"That's where you make your money," said Reese. "Anyone can see that Calvin Johnson is an outstanding player, but when you hit on some of the guys late in the draft, then you're doing something."

* If you're looking for a big-time darkhorse, go with free-agent rookie wide receiver Brandon London out of U Mass. He made some great catches, and at 6-4, 210, he's a big target.

* Rookie defensive tackle Jay Alford out of Penn State may not turn a lot of heads, but Reese calls him "one of those lunch pail guys." He thinks Alford can become a solid contributor for a long time.

For some reason, this combination of sentences made me :bag: Our Interview With Boss included a question about the Giants and Shockey - he sounded excited about the prospect of being Shockey's understudy, and we're glad that things have gotten off on the right foot.

Mike Espy had a good training camp last year before getting cut, and is likely to make the team this year as a Redskin WR. Very long shot at having any fantasy value now, but worth watching for the future.
PLUS -- It would be even cooler to have him on your fantasy team if he were to win an ESPY Award for NFL Comeback Player of the Year... "And the ESPY goes to.... (long dramatic pause)... Mike Espy!" (crowd goes wild.)Just Funnin' -- Great ThreadDon't know if it will amount to anything, but I really like Bo Scaife (the TE in TEN.) It seems that in the few Titan games I have watched, Vince Young and Bo just have "that thing" going. This gut feeling is added to the thought that Ben Troupe always seems to be hurt.

To amplify your point,... Bo Scaife went to houston to work routes with VY. B. Troupe did not.

 from an owner of Scaife in most of my leagues :lmao: and VY in one league where I own Scaife

Douglas playing FB is more of an Hback and many think he won't be their FB openning day. I would look for he and Boss to be battling when/if they sign a FB. He too has impressed.

SCOUTING REPORT: WR Laurent Robinson, a third-round draft pick from Illinois State, has dazzled with his speed and catching ability during minicamps and OTAs. Veteran defensive backs have been abused by Robinson, who presents a big target. He stood out because he makes the routine catches and comes up with the spectacular grabs, too. Falcons coach Bobby Petrino likes to use some three- and four-receiver sets. Robinson will give them the luxury of adding a playmaker to the mix. He'll be pushing Michael Jenkins, Joe Horn and Roddy White for playing time. Falcons general manager Rich McKay doesn't have a good track record when it comes to selecting wide receivers but may have struck gold with Robinson.
