It was usually plausibly deniable that someone was using it to laugh at someone, although it was less plausibly deniable in the Shark Pool, admittedly. There’s not much funny about an RB4 vs. a WR3 or whatever it is we’re on about over there.

But over here you could always say you just found it funny and you could be totally lying about why you did it.

What’s worse than not being able to use a laugh emoji, is that grown adults actually report a poster for using a laugh emoji.
