Week 6: Bottom of the Barrel WRs (1 Viewer)

I'm in a terrible position in a flex league where I need to start 4 WRs due to RB injuries and bye week conflicts. I'm desperately scouring the waiver wire for anything that might be startable. I'm sure others are in similar situations.

The question: Do you see any WRs on your waiver wires who might be hidden Week 6 gems?

I'm thinking that Kevin Walter and Lance Moore might make decent fill-ins given the situation with AJ/Jacoby Jones injuries and Devery Henderson's dropsies.

I'm also thinking that Reggie Williams or Ernest Wilford might make a sneaky play against the battered Texans secondary.

Just for the love of god anyone but Joe Horn (who's still on my roster  )

I like Lance Moore call, also is Sidney Rice on your waivers? Why not give him a shot if your that depleted.

What the hell is an obanamu?

Bobby Engram was on my WW this week and I picked him up as a floater.

No Deion Branch + New Orleans pass defense =

ETA: Holmgren already announced that Engram is filling in at Branch's flanker position.

I came on here to say Ben Obomanu. Three end zone targets last week. 6 total targets - led the team. He's from Auburn. Was hurt in the pre-season (hammy) and is just now starting to make some noise.

 I think Engram will get his, and probably have a BIG game. But I was assuming Bottom of the Barrel meant Engram wasn't available  Obanamu is likely available and will probably get the 2nd most looks, IMO

Mark Bradley perhaps if Berrian doesn't play. (have to watch inj report; Berrian didn't practice today)

It'd be wonderful if Bradley played great and we slowly fazed Moose out.

I'm rolling the dice with Marty Booker. Yes, I know Cleo Lemon is starting at QB for Miami, but they're playing Cleveland. Plus, Lemon has never really gotten a chance before--he might do well.

The Seattle situation is interesting, because in many leagues Burleson is available in addition to or instead of Engram (as well as Obomanu).

I think Engram is probably a given - But why do many feel that Obomanu will outperform Burleson here. Most of the 'cheatsheats' i have seen this week have Burleson and Engram in the top 20-35 WRs for the week and Obomanu is not in the top 50 for the week..

Rice was picked up after his big game two weeks ago. Plus, if Tarvaris is back in action, I'd expect no more than 2 receptions for 10 yards for Rice :lmao:

I'm liking the Obomanu suggestion, just not sure I'd gamble with him over Walter.

I know your league is superdeep. For the people in not so deep, I'm starting Ike Hilliard.

Best answer in the thread so far. Stolen from another thread...laurent robinson-atl vs giants. I too am high on him. obamanu is allover the 5-minute drill podcast. I don't trust any of the seattle wrs. They haven't been consistent two weeks in a row yet. All of their value lies in Matt Hasselbeck's ability to perform. Branch, burleson, engram, obamanu, who else is there. With D-jax gone Matt throws to anybody ala Brady in New England. My pick for wr outside the top 50 is MIKE WILLIAMS - Raiders. Fair amount of targets especially inside the 20. Do it. sidney rice...hell no vs chi...and the qb is who? mark it down. Expect a good game after my rant. I wouldn't start him.Mark Bradley is a decent options. Jerry Porter is a great option. That is probably not available. Top of my list. Brandon Jones/Roydell Williams- Tenn wrs are decent bets.James Jones in gb is a good option but also probably not available.Amani Toomer is a great choice with a tough matchup. Eli has locked on to him when Plaxico falls asleep at the wheel. Bruce or Bennett in St Louis. Gus Frerotte seems to be capable of getting the ball out. Bryant Johnson in AZ is also probably not available. Charger wideouts: Craig Davis is starting ot get looks. Parker or Floyd will eventually become promising.Damn, I thought I would be able to answer your question but am realizing 4 wrs leagues are fun & tough. Digging way down to find a capable wr is quite a challenge. Can you play TEs as the 4wr?

ok.just saying that the highest scoring player on waivers is Roscoe Parrish and the highest scoring player on waivers and NOT on bye this week is Kevin Walter, then Drew Carter/Keary Colbert. Slim pickings ... no luxury of the #33 WR (Hilliard) being available.

it's not actually a 4 WR league, it's a flex league. start at least 1 RB and at least 2 WRs, total of 5 RB/WRs. TEs are not included in flex. i'd normally start 3 RBs, but Gore is on bye, Deuce is on IR, Jamal is injured -- so I'm down to Tomlinson. Since I went all out (auction) and got Gore + Tomlinson, my WRs are atrocious.

what are everyone's thoughts on d. henderson or m. muhammad.

i am thinking these two could have some value for the next couple of bye weeks.

i know henderson has the droppies but i think that offense can still score.

muhammad is bad but if berian can't go maybe he can catch a td or two over the next few weeks

I like what I'm seeing from him too. What concerns me about this week, though, is the Falcons facing a strong Giants' pass rush without their two offensive tackles. Given what we know about Harrington, I'm not sure anyone is going to be worthy of starting for Atlanta this week. The Giants definitely have issues in the secondary but will Harrington have the time to find someone like Robinson (or White or Jenkins)? Anyone else with some thoughts about this?I like the Ike Hillard pick as well. That's another guy who's putting up WR3 numbers in PPR leagues right now.

:drive: I'm debating with him or Bryant Johnson...depending on Boldin status. Both seem to have been getting solid targets lately. IMO, I'm rolling the dice with Booker as he could be a nice safety valve for Lemon.

Nice list. Of them, I see Laurent Robinson getting some nice looks since Joey Harrington has been shown he is replacable and if he wants to keep the job, he must do better and score.

I also like Roydell Williams, but the TB def will attack V Young after their defeat in Indy last week. I don't think Tenn will score but a few FG's.

Ike is a solid start with Garcia looking like he did in place of McNabb late last year. Tenn DB's are tough, but Garcia will get some good time.

Mike Williams? Interesting call. Could be gold if he getting the targets. I might have to look that up!

Or that obanamu or whoever that is on Seattle, since he will play this week.
Might be the sleeper this week. The Saints might focus on Engram and open up things for Obanamu. See TO and Crayton as an example.
I am sure Engram is all  that the mighty Saints defense is going to focus on him. Here are some scary numbers from the Saints defense. They have one sack on the season ONE SACK! They have two interceptions on the season. They are giving up a whopping 9.7 yards PER ATTEMPT. Opposing QBs have a 114.7 passer rating against them. All of which are last in the NFLThey are also giving up 2 TDs a game, worse then any team but Cinci and Cleveland and they had that wild game with 11 TD passes, which I think most will consider an aberration. There is a downside, and it is a big one, in the fact that opposing teams have only found it necessary to throw the ball an average of 23 times a game and that means there will not be many opportunities. But the Saints have let opposing QBs make the absolute most of every opportunity.I have not been following Obamamumunu but I worry that he got all those targets last week because he was practicing behind Branch while Engram was practicing for his normal role so when Branch went down Omansboobs filled in at the flanker spot. This week Engran is practicing in the flanker position and will probably only yield it in three WR sets. I am not certain about it but it seems logical.ETA: I am pretty sure the Saints game plan revolves around stopping Alexander first and foremost.

I don't have much to add but really wanted to commend outstanding use of the :goodposting: icon.

I'd 8th the nomination of Obanumuanau. I thought he looked good last week.

Also, if you are middle-of-the-Gobi-desert starving at WR, there is a good chance Moss & Randle-El are out this week. That would mean Caldwell & Thrash are starting. So you could take either of those fat chicks to the prom.

man...your leagues too deep for my AB+ blood.I see those are the highest scorers so far by points, but your best bet may be by taking a flyer on someone who's getting more PT this week or has a great matchupIDK if you said Obomanu was or wasnt available earlier, but he seems like a good option.I like Lance Moore for NO this week. I haven't seen much Saints footage, but parts of games I've watched he seems like their best WR.I think a guy like ^this^ may be your best bet. Walter might not be bad either, but I'd prefer 1 of these 2

If the league is THAT deep, Robinson could be a decent play. My 18 man roster league has these on the wire:K Walter

L Moore

L Robinson

S Rice

among others. Of them, I like them in that order, with Walters well ahead, assuming AJ is still out.

Demetrius Williams has the most targets in the red zone (6) with 0 receptions. Baltimore Ravens !Demetrius Williams targets the last 3 weeks - 4, 7, 8 - They are increasing even though Mason leads the league in targets.

The Packers lead the NFL with 141 receptions or 28.2 per game. Guess who is #2? The Baltimore Ravens with 136 receptions or 27.2 per game

Just some things to ponder courtesy of Wheelhouse :goodposting:

Like others, I'm wondering why Obomanu is so much preferred over Burleson?

If Engram is starting at Branch's flanker position, and Burleson has been starting in place of Hackett at split end, doesn't that put Obomanu in the slot? Or have things changed?

Mike MacKenzie isn't Champ Bailey, but he's a decent CB. If he's matched up on Engram, whoever lines up at SE could be in for a good day with whoever is playing CB on that side of the field for NO.

My other concern with the SEA WR's is that, even with a depleted WR core, they're playing at home against the Saints and I predict they'll be up early meaning more Alexander and less passes thrown to WR's.

I think I like the Hilliard call the best. TEN isn't a team that lights up the scoreboard, so if the game is close at all, I can see Hilliard getting a lot of looks underneath and putting up some servicable numbers in PPR leagues.

Jerheme Urban, Ari WR

News: While Urban's teammate Bryant Johnson (quad) practiced on Thursday, he is not a guarantee to play on Sunday, according to the Cardinals' official site.

Spin: Starting receiver Anquan Boldin (hip) is unlikely to play, so Urban will probably serve as Arizona's No. 3 wideout if Johnson can play and the No. 2 wideout if Johnson cannot play.

Bryant Johnson, Ari WR

News: While Johnson (quad) practiced on Thursday, he is not a guarantee to play on Sunday, according to the Cardinals' official site.

Anybody like Urban better than Walter or Moore against Carolina's 24th rank pass D?

If it turns out that Johnson and Boldin don't play, I'd say Urban's a great plug-in.

To be honest I like Obomanu based on his size and raw talent in the pre-season.... I would like for someone with more knowledge on the true x's and o's of the offense to weigh in on your questions about him in the slot etc...

Or if he will be the primary kick returner. Mackenzie is the only decent corner in the Saints secondary. I think Hass will try and exploit that.

Demetrius Williams is a potential deep threat in Baltimore, and gets between 5-8 looks a game, normally comes down with a few catches and the yardage is decent. This is only for DEEP leagues though, as I have him reserved in a 16 team league. He has breakout potential though, if that offense ever comes alive.
