Welker vs. Decker (1 Viewer)

I guess I didn't realize how clumsy and uncoordinated this Decker is (shoulda watched more games last year I guess). Apparently nobody informed him that the nfl season was underway last night . I'm thinking that he is now the 5th option behind Thomas,Thomas, Welker, and whichever of the RB's are in there. Surely last night sealed his fate as Peyton should have absolutely zero confidence in him right now. Unless something happens to the Thomas's or Welker I can't see how this guy starts for anybody in other than 16 or higher team leagues.
He led the league in TDs last year but last night sealed his fate......little over dramatic huh.

I think James Jones led the league in receiving TD's with 16, right? While Decker had 13.

14 to 13 but you are right.

Back to reality for Decker. Welker and Thomas will eat away his targets , Not DT's . You can't drop that many passes and expect your QB to keep looking your way.

Deckers value is going to diminish. Only Decker owners disagree. Every last one of them is nervous and mad that Welker is in town.

Talent + Opportunity + System = Results.

Decker went from two out of three to one out of three in the off-season. Nothing over dramatic about it.

Last year, he was a mediocre receiver who benefited from being the only red zone option the Broncs had if other teams were determined to take away DT. This year, he's a mediocre receiver who is no better than the third best option under those same circumstances, and if the running game steps up with Ball, he becomes something like fifth overall on the red zone totem pole.

He's obviously not going to out-target DT or Welker. I'm just not sure where the week to week production is going to come from. He'll have some big plays, but I see him as more of a boom/bust/bust/bust option moving forward than a reliable every week contributor.

Thomas, but it may be a lot closer than I would have bet yesterday at this time. ETA: Because although I wasn't surprised to see that much usage, I expected it to have to ramp up to that by mid-season. Plus, the running game may just be anemic enough to give Welker some value down close I didn't count on. I'm *assuming* the 2 TD thing will be an aberration, but the 6 or so I'd have wagered on looks like a lowball at this point.

After last nights' game, who would you rather roster in a PPR redraft this season -- Welker or DThomas?
In PPR, Welker. He is going to be very consistent. DT will have big games and big catches. But some weeks that won't happen so much. He was shut out of the game last night for quite a while and then had a couple of big plays.

Decker is fine. He led Denver in targets last week too. Just needs to cash in on the TD throws when they come his way

Through four weeks, somehow, both guys are outperforming their ADP.

Decker 24-340-1

Welker 26-266-6

What is crazy is how often Welker is scoring. In six seasons in New England, he caught 37 touchdowns on 672 catches, which is a touchdown catch every 18 catches. Meanwhile, he is catching a touchdown pass every four+ catches in Denver so far. Crazy.

Just heard on 104.3 (the fan) in Denver that Decker was out of practice today w/ a ankle issue FYI. No link available. Not sure the extent of the injury or if it happened today.

lol at sumday... cbs and fbg news blog confirming he sat out of practice today but that he will be (should be?) in the starting lineup on Sunday.

How many of you started Decker today?
I start Decker every week. It's been rough going at times, but if you have one of the three Denver WRs, you should be starting him every week, since any of them can go off like Decker did today at any time.
Exactly this. It's been a tough month, but you absolutely can't take him out of your lineup. Peyton seems to get locked in on one guy, whether it be matchup based or momentum based, and these things happen. Lately it's been Demaryius, but today when Demaryius left, it was like something clicked from the first month of the season with Manning & Decker. I started him today in my PPR in the first round of the playoffs, and reaped the 49 pt reward.

Well, before today he was the 21st scoring WR in PPR.

Just based on that alone he should be pencilled in to the weekly lineup of about 95% of the teams who own him.

I mean, he is likely underperforming regarding most people's expectations of him, however he is still performing as a low-end #2.

He has been getting about 8-9 points per game for the past month. Ok. Basically EVERY fantasy player outside of the megastuds goes through a dry spell like that. And really, has anything happened in that stretch to lead you to believe he was somehow going to continue to underperform?

They throw a lot, he is on the field a lot, he scores his TDs when given the chance, and he is a good possession WR with a hall of fame QB who makes his living throwing short-intermediate routes, which Decker is good at.

As I said, anyone sitting him today gets what they deserve..................unless the guys in your lineup are the top end guys, in which case that would just be a bit unlucky.

Decker went through the same rough patch last year. Last year it was weeks 9-13 for about 7.5ppg in PPR. This year it was weeks 8-12 at about 7ppg in PPR.

Last year he finished WR8 scoring 16.84ppg PPR. This year he's WR12 currently scoring 16.68ppg PPR.

I don't know. Honestly, I'd be a bit concerned that Decker's best day so far is non-coincidentally the same day that:

A) J. Thomas is out

B) Welker has been dealing with an ankle injury

C) D. Thomas leaves the game for a while with a shoulder injury

D) The defense has put rookie CB Marcus Cooper on him a majority of the time - and Manning wisely went after the rook.

Is it possible that all of these could happen again? Sure. But I am not so sure this sudden bump in targets and red-zone targets is indicative of future changes is usage. If you started him this past week, kudos to you. If you didn't, I am not sure I would be expecting double digit targets with multiple TDs again next week. Especially if J. Thomas is back.

Who ends up being the better play this year? It seems like nearly everyone has Welker ranked higher, and he went for 20-close to 30 in nearly every auction I did, while Decker was going for somewhere in the teens most of the time (although sometimes a tad higher or even a tad lower...he went for 10 bucks in one auction I was in!). I think that is madness. Do I think Decker will score 13 times again this year? No. But he should still put solid WR2 numbers in the fantasy world, IMO, and this idea that he is gonna take a backseat to Welker as far as targets go seems off to me. Granted, it will vary from week to week, and I am sure Welker will outproduce him tonight and this thread will get bumped right away  , but I think over the course of the season, Decker will not only be the better value based on the respective ADP of both, but outscore Welker altogether.

Decker 83-1,261-10

Welker 73-778-10

Welker had the better start, and it was close for a while, but it's Decker in a rout!
