We've cut the cable (1 Viewer)

Canceled DTV for the last time, now looking at my options. We really only need ABC, Fox, NBC, CBS, ESPN, and Disney. NFL Network also preferred but not necessary. Any recommendations on which service to choose?

YouTube TV is good if you just care about getting locals.

I disconnected a few years ago but had a similar situation, I think I got 2 return boxes and had 8 receivers, they said don't worry about it, we just want the 2 we sent boxes for.
Funny that the receivers these companies charge you a monthly rent for aren't worth the price of postage.

$20 Sling TV package for ESPN and Disney. Hopefully an antenna can get you ABC, Fox, NBC, and CBS.

Realistically I am going to bite the bullet and start cutting holes in my walls to move the router to the main floor and then hardwire from there to the downstairs flat.
Okay I am taking the next step towards cord cutting and need some advice from anyone (but specifically @Shutout  ).

Moving my Arris Touchstone modem/router to my main floor tomorrow.

What is the path of least resistance to blast my wireless signal to my top floor and basement?

1) Is there a better/easier option over just grabbing the Google WiFi, which I believe is a mesh system?

2) Will my modem/router combo cause issues with that kind of mesh setup?  One Google thingy needs to plug into the modem and acts as a router to the other thingys. Do I need to go back to my old Arris Surfboard, which is a dedicated modem?

TL:DR

So what do you guys think for a three story house (~roughly 3000 square feet).

1) Orbi+CM1000 for $520 (additional satellite if necessary +$205)

2) Google WiFi+SB8200 for $459

3) Nighthawk+SB8200 for $590

TIA

Full post:

I have been researching the hell out of this and I think I have the best solution options for me.

We have a three story house, router is currently in my home office (a.k.a. the garage...happy wife, happy life).  Long story short current modem/router combo isn't cutting it (Arris Touchstone TG2472) and I am going with either a mesh or ramping up my router.

I am going to get a DOCSIS 3.1 modem (either the Arris SB8200 or the Netgear CM1000, these are the only ones compatible with my ISP).  For the mesh it's either Orbi or Google.

Orbi seems like it will get the best signal (apparently the 5 ghz backhaul thing is pretty sweet), in which case the Netgear CM1000 seems like the logical choice as they are both Netgear. With the CM1000 it would run $520. But considering the configuration of my house will I need to get a second Orbi satellite so I can have one upstairs and one downstairs?  That gets kind of pricey ($725 for router + Orbi + satellite).

Google seems like it will probably put out a perfectly good signal but clearly not as strong as Orbi.  However all in with the Arris SB8200 (which I understand is a slightly better modem all around) is $459.

My other option is to see if a better router will cover my needs.  I guess the Nighthawk R9000 is the industry standard so all in with the new modem would be $590.

Thoughts?

The Orbi would be my vote if you ruled out the Linksys Velop, which by the size of your house and the price point, you probably did.  The Orbi has USB ports so if a NAS is interesting to you, that's the one system that will give you that easily.  You can't hardwire the backhaul on the Orbi and it's a big sucker but it's probably going to serve you well.

Thanks man. After even more research that is definitely my mesh option.

A new router may be the easiest path. Been checking speedguide.net and there seem to be plenty of options far more powerful than my current router, for much less cost than the Nighthawk X-10.

But the Orbi seems like Tuesday way to go.

Gonna sleep on it one more day.

It's not that hard to run wire. One wire to each level and install a WAP for $60 a pop.
And there is still the extollo option for simple plug and play.

I think the orbit will do well for him though. It's a bit bulky but a good product and the USB and dedicated back haul are good features

I installed the orbi mesh system and after some debugging in terms of compatibility with my sonos system I'm very happy with it.  Bought the router plus two satellite combo at Costco.  Pricey but great coverage in 6,800 sqf house.  I've since gone to DIRECTV now plus Netflix for TV viewing.  Probably only saving $40/mo since internet is expensive but feel like I have more viewing and accessibility flexibility.

Cut the cable and while it's taking getting used to, everything is working out.....except for tablo.  What a horrible ####### interface.

The interface isn't great.  But it works.  We don't use it a ton to be honest, but I like knowing I have it available.

Any updates on DirecTVNow vs. Sling?  We had Sling initially and switched because DTVN had more programming we wanted at a lower price.  But overall I think I generally liked the Sling interface a little more (other than the channel guide, where DTVN is better).  Still happy enough with DTVN, and also thinking about switching my wife's cell phone from Verizon to AT&T, so that we can lower the price to that $10 a month deal INCLUDING HBO (that's a sick deal).  Would lower our overall cost even further.

If I sign up with directvnow can I use that login to get into specific channel apps?  I know with psvue I've been able to login to apps(like bravo for the wife) so we can watch shows on demand.

I've tried most of the streaming options.  At least for me, YouTubeTV has been leaps and bounds better than the rest in terms of streaming quality.

Is this a way to get additional content or simply easier password management?

$349.99 at Target right now + 15% off site-wide today should put it at $297.49 today only

forget it - not available online right now
It was available on Amazon just a few days ago.  I bought and then cancelled once I saw it was at Target.  Now Amazon is saying a few weeks delay.  The Target employee told me I got literally the last one (the box was beat up, but well packed and the TV was fine).

Currently on Amazon $339 Prime and 6 available. I'm trying to Christmas shop this Cyber Monday to get tons out of the way and overall unimpressed with the offerings. Your TV was 280 a few days ago at SlickDeals. Bah, it's just a few bucks in the big picture, but.

That said, I do agree the TCL is the way to go. For less than $400 you get a picture equal to LG Vizio Samsung bottom of the lines ($700-$900 sale prices) with a really slick Roku interface. I would take the TCL over those for the same money, maybe the HiSense too.

Is Playstation Vue already trying to scam me out of channels?  I got a notice on my startup screen that I needed to upgrade to Ultra to continue enjoying a bunch of channels.  Anybody else get this?

Damn, 280 is a screaming good deal.

Got to believe they get something worked out. And quickly with the holiday season.

If Amazon thinks this won't impact sales of their own devices, they are sorely mistaken.  Love FireTV but Roku or Chromecast will be hooked up Jan 1 if there's no Youtube.
