I thought Kodi was just a way to get free TV programming without having to pay for it, and presumably without the consent of the providing of the programming.  Not true?
if it's being disseminated via Kodi, firestick, 'droid box, etc.  then it is available for your pc, via innerwebz streaming,  as well ... just takes some digging, but it's all out there.

e.g., i just ran a GoT episode search for chips and giggles, and the entire series is out there, right up to current episode ... "Kodi" and it's trappings just centralize it all, as i said earlier

"It's all out there" just means pirated right?  Like the old Napster days.  It was all out there.   I didn't have to pay for any of my music.  But it was stealing.  Am I missing something here?

analogy will get little argument from me ... but there is currently nothing, law wise, to prevent/dissuade the activity.

the torrent folks have been doing this for years and years ... if/when it's cracked down on, then we can discuss the legal/moral issue(s).

i understand that this method is not for everyone, but, for the time being, i will have it no other way.

No problem.  Happy to help.

It will go: Line-in to home ->Modem->router->[Ethernet cable to Extollo].  Plug in Extollo.

Go to the desired location and plug in another Extollo. [Ethernet cable to 2nd router]. Set up 2nd router in bridge mode.  Signal loss should be minimal as long as you don't have old wiring, etc.

A not to mention: This usually is never a problem but if you do live in a house that is wired odd (sometimes also in older homes with built-on areas), you need to make sure both electrical plugs you use are on the same circuit for your fusebox. Very rare it won't be but it does happen.

Also, if you buy more than two Extollos, they all will act as if they are in  the same network, assuming your house wiring is all wired and not separated as mentioned above. This is pretty handy and flexible. For example, I have 4. One runs off the router and the other thee all pick up on the other end (so you don't have to have one transmitter and one receiver in each setup. So I have one upstairs pushing the signal out. Then I have receivers in the dining room, basement, and living room and all three pick up almost the exact same signal strength.

Hope this helps.
Follow up question -- does the extollo provide a different access point name? In other words, will I have to switch around to connect to different access point names going from one room to another?  Thanks

Stupid nickelodeon may be my issue.  Kids watch mostly nick.  Which is now only available in DIRECTV now as far as streaming options.  Not sure about on demand or how fast newer episodes of things are loaded for their shows.  DIRECTV is slow in that there is no DVR option yet and not yet sure how quick episodes are available.

Closest im coming is antenna for local, some sort of home dvr to record live content.  And then directv now for the $35 package gets me most content.  Then Netflix, hbo go, and NFL game pass.

working the.numbers in that today plus att fiber 100vs1000 vs Comcast 150vs300

Damn google fiber is delayed still here.

I had Nick Jr on Sling.  Just have to get it with the right package.

DTVNow is great.  I thought the no DVR thing would be an issue and so I resisted at first, but it becomes a who cares when you realize how much crap is available On Demand.

Can get Nicktoons on sling which will help (kids are 9 and almost 13...nick Jr doesn't help).  I was just reading more about the nicktoons.

Im looking to see what is available on demand to make sure I cover what everyone wants.

Part of the no DVR is also me when talking about sports.  Football on ESPN, the multiple soccer games I like.  I don't watch a ton live because...well, with kids that is difficult.  I like to be able to watch and pause and come back later or whatever for when we need to get them to bed or get food cooked and so on.  Im new to researching all of this...

Well you can't DVR ESPN on Sling unfortunately

Is that another they don't allow?  As I said...new to looking at this...thought you could with the cloud DVR thing?  Do they block stuff like ESPN and stuff?

REading it now...pretty much all disney owned channels won't record to DVR

Correct. Basically everything but Sling Orange is available to be DVR'd

Now my next question.

If my set up is something like

Antenna + DVR for local channels (still looking at DVR options there).

Sling or DirectNow or whatever

Im going to assume these streaming services like Sling/Direct and so on lock it to where I cant use whatever DVR I buy for the local channels from the antenna...to record their live content?  LIke a TIVO Roamio or other such box?

No, you can use DVR on Sling for local channels.

Well...local is less what Im worried about.  I know most other things would be on demand content anyway (kids shows) rather than just live.

And not all local are on sling...hence the antenna for CBS mainly.

Correct, I can't get local CBS or ABC with Sling. But I use CBS All-Access for my local CBS and Hulu for ABC.

Are you required to have a cable account for CBS All-Access or is it a standalone service?

Is it live local access?
Stand alone. $6/month for live, local CBS. Also includes a ton of on-demand shows CBS past and present. Cheers, I Love Lucy, Frasier, Survivor, NCIS, CSI, etc.

I've done it three different ways so short answer is it is what you want or need it to be.

I have plugged the Extollo into a wall and then the additional router into it, using the same SSID and password and thereby stay on the same network with no switching.

I have plugged an extender into a wall and then the Extollo into it and had a separate SSID with the strength of the original.

I have plugged the Extollo into the wall and then carried forward the original with no switching.

It may depend somewhat on the gear you use to determine what degree of flexibility you have but I have had no issue with Asus routers and Netgear extenders. I did not mix and match routers. Both the first and second were Asus

You're missing a couple of things:

1- If you took possession of a pirated movie or tv show it would be copyright infringement, not stealing.

2- No case law exists for watching a stream, where you do not take possession of anything, so currently you can not say it is copyright infringement.

Can I just plug it into my router, plug the other end in a room where I don't have a signal, and project that same router signal into the other room?  (Same access point name and everything?)

Say my wifi is called OTIS. can I just leave everything always connected to that same network no matter what room I'm in?  Or do I have to give this thing a new name like OTIS2 and constantly have to switch back and forth between the two depending on what room I'm in?

Am I able to watch local sports (like baseball) if you lose cable? I had thought that MLB doesn't allow in-market streaming?

Can you subscribe to the NFL Ticket (through streaming)?

With streaming you can control your location to avoid blackouts and out of market games simply by using a vpn.

VPN your ip address to Brazil and enjoy the full NFL ticket, red zone, nfl network, replay, etc. for $174.

Or just get a sports streaming service for 10/month and get access to all sports out there including pay per views

I use an IPTV addon on Kodi (firestick) and pay $9/month for live TV channels. I get pretty much every cable channel, all the pay movie channels, the big 4 networks (not local though) plus the added benefit of PPVs and sporting events, including the NFL Sunday Ticket (as well as hundreds of channels from every corner of the globe which I dont really watch). Now, I also have DirecTV, but I pay the $9/month for IPTV to use at my GFs place (she doesnt watch enough TV at her place to want to pay for cable). No real usable guide and no DVR, but for $9 Im not expecting to get the full cable experience.

Is it stealing? Probably, but I pay a good bit for my DTV and pay the $9/month for IPTV that I only watch on the weekends, so its only part time stealing IMO. I can live with that.

You're not missing anything. It's no different than the days when your neighbor would "hook you up" with free cable.

You can do it either of the ways you described but I can't say specifically what you will have to do to set up or if it is automatic, depending on your equipment.  For me, with two identical routers made by Asus, plugging in the second to the Extollo led to me going to the interface of my router and selecting to use the second router (which it picked up automatically) in "bridge mode". This led one SSID with no switching. It was, to use your example, "Otis" all over the house.  That was true or the 2.4, the 5ghz and a guest .

I think this is what it comes down to.  I guess I struggle with doing something like this myself.
Actually I dont really think it is stealing...Like I said, I pay $80/mo for DTV, and all I'm doing with Kodi is making channels I already pay for portable on weekends or when I go out of town.

But whatever makes you feel good, man.

@Otis made the switch from Sling to DirecTV Now. So far, so good. I like that I now get local ABC with DTV Now that I didn't get with Sling. Also read that DTV Now should be adding NFL Network and RedZone this week.

Yeah we are still pretty happy with it. Cheaper and still has everything we want. Login for all the channel specific apps is a major plus.

The negatives so far--every now and then a stream hangs and we have to exit and go back into the app. Don't know if thats due to DTV or the fire stick or what.  Being limited to only two concurrent streams is a downside, but hasn't caused us problems yet.  Just something I hate having to even be mindful of. Lastly, the interface isn't always what I want it to be -- in particular I find it harder to find what's on right now when compared to the Sling interface, which I thought did a nice job of grouping things well by program type (sports, kids, etc).

Overall pleased, but looking for some improvements over time.

Yup, I get your justification and it makes sense. I was just commenting on Kodi more broadly.

Definitely some things that take getting used to. No DVR is a bit of a bummer because my wife would DVR all kinds of stuff and now she has to wait for them to pop up On-Demand. The multiple streams isn't a huge deal since we can always switch a TV to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, etc. It isn't very often that we're all trying to watch something different on TV. I don't mind the interface too much. My issue with watching through the FireTV is that I keep backing out of the app accidentally. If they can add DVR and NFL Network, I'll be really pleased with it.

AT&T’s streaming service DirecTV Now is getting cloud DVR, parental controls, and other features

I don't see an answer for the question below in the Extollo user manual so I thought I would ask you.

Okay so I plug this thing into the wall, plug the router into it and connect an ethernet cable.  Then I plug the second Extollo in the desired location away from the primary router...can I then use this to connect a secondary router in bridge mode (I presume it has to be bridge mode) or can I only plug it directly into a device I want specifically hardwired at that moment?

I know you are not my personal IT support so no worries if you can't answer, or even if you just don't feel like it.

Thanks.  I got an Extollo last week but only had one crack to try and set-up/configure it before heading out of town until next Wednesday.

The initial results were not good.  I only got "red" indicator lights for the quality of the powerline connection, and while I was able to connect the second router in Bridge mode it wasn't putting out a signal that would connect to the internet. I will need to try again when I return home.

I am currently looking into the Google wi-fi mesh as many of the reviews are from people who tried multiple options, specifically powerline, without success but the Google Wi-Fi worked for them.  Anyone know what the difference is between the two?

Realistically I am going to bite the bullet and start cutting holes in my walls to move the router to the main floor and then hardwire from there to the downstairs flat.

I tried for years to get reliable streams that I paid for legitimately. (in addition to having my $10 streaming service) I never understood how a legitimate company couldn't produce a quality product that they were charging 2-3x as much for.

I pay for Playstation Vue, but still stream other events/shows through questionable streaming services. It just works better on every device.

Folks who had DirecTV - what was your experience returning the equipment? I have 3 receivers and a wireless bridge, and got a return kit for just one receiver. This was over a month ago. I don't want to get charged for this junk.

Thanks for posting this. I just checked, and it doesn't show up on mine yet but I'll continue checking
Did you run a system update? The article doesn't state it, but I wonder if that needs to be done to get it to show up.

eta-  looks like you need to add it the same as any channel

I was able to find the channel but it wouldn't install for me. I got an error. Hopefully it works soon.

I disconnected a few years ago but had a similar situation, I think I got 2 return boxes and had 8 receivers, they said don't worry about it, we just want the 2 we sent boxes for.

I'm able to get this through Playstation Vue (Fox Sports North), i'm not sure if all markets are covered.  It does cost $45/month but has a bunch of other channels as well.  Baseball and RedZone are the only things that prevented me from cutting the cord to this point, and it looks like I can get both through Vue, although RedZone is in a higher tier package.  It will still save me a ton over what I'm paying for cable.

Really disappointed that DirecTV Now doesn't have NFL Network or RedZone. Thought for sure they would add it before the season started.
