We've cut the cable (4 Viewers)

I finally dumped Xfinity cable and hopped on the Firestick train. I now get every channel for $10/mo. (UFC, every HBO, every Showtime, Every local in the country, NFL Redzone etc)

If you are paying more than $10/mo for programming, you are doing it wrong.
So if one has a firestick, they don’t need to pay separately for streaming services? Max alone is more than ten bucks/month, for example.

The app is called Infinity. I get it through DamSon Pro Networking solutions. You download their app, change a few settings and its all there.

I get...
14 HBO channels
12 Cinemax
16 Showtime
27 Starz
MGM+
And you get locals from every area of the country
+ many other goodies

Get an IPTV service, there are thousands of them out there. I get over 5000 channels for $9/month.

Every sport package, every movie channel, every cable channel, tons of local network channels all over the country, most PPVs, 24/7 tv show channels, adult channels, music channels...its crazy.

I also have YTTV because my wife likes it, but I don't have or need any other streaming services. I use Cinema HD app for on demand shows and movies, and YTTV or IPTV for watching live stuff.

Are those services legal?

Same question for “Infinity” app.

We have Spectrum, and our internet bill went from $80 to $100. I made a call about switching to Altafiber, and they gave me a matching discount to bring my monthly bill down to $60/mth. I felt like I was doing the DirecTv annual song and dance for the NFL Ticket, but it saved me $40/mth so it was worth it.
Switched from Direct TV stream to Spectrum TV in 2019 because DTV was raising their rates. Monthly was $44 for SpectrumTV. Now it's $115 and I have an internet discount disappearing in Sept. I have done the annual Spectrum/Time Warner negotiation for over 20 years. Time to move over to IPTV.
I'll take a PM if you don't mind sharing. Thanks.

The way I see it, I got ripped off by cable/satellite for so long, at this point I don't care. I've had IPTV for 6-7 years now and haven't got anything telling me to stop, so I'm gonna keep enjoying my thousands of channels. Being able to watch any NFL game I want (and not worrying or caring which streaming platform it's on) makes it 100% worth it to me, legal or not.

100%
Directv made people put a freaking satellite on their roof for more than a decade after the internet was capable of streaming everything. Preying on people with their monopoly, especially old people. Comcast had a cable monopoly in large areas of the country for nearly half a century.

Nobody has ever been prosecuted for watching a stream, you don't take possession of anything. Downloading a movie is illegal, so are the sites that host aired TV shows and movies, but, watching the stream isn't.

Is this like a VSeeBox or SuperBox? Do those things actually work and give you all the channels?

Honestly, I'm not familiar enough with those terms to give you an educated answer.

I was considering IPTV for the first time because it really seems to be the way to go now days. But, I'm not a fan of paying someone to pirate for me so I found a 100% free workaround that works for me.

These IPTV services are really charging you for their m3u playlist. It's a text file that simply points to, provides the location of, the streaming video. It's probably why these services are more brazen, they aren't hosting anything illegal, they're just a pass through.

There used to be a website called The TV App, now TV Pass. They have a m3u available with about 350 channels. ESPN, NFL Network, HBO etc. etc. The only hang up I had was that the local channels were NY and LA. Not as many choices as some of the big IPTV lists. But then I realized my local channels stream their news broadcast free and in real time. Wheel of Fortune and American Ninja Warrior is on the NY feed once the local news is over.

You can pull that m3u playlist into IPTV Smathers Pro, the XCIPTV app or into the live tv section of CinemaHD or TeaTv.

For on demand I moved on from CinemaHD and am using TeaTV, Flix Vision and lookmovie2.

For PPV tvpass puts out m3u's and/or I still use Sportsurge.

For simplicity for the wife I just bookmark tvpass, lookmovie2 and the local news channel streams in the Silk browser. Plus she has Prime (free with Amazon delivery) and Netflix (free with our cell phone plan)

Correction. About half that many channels, looks like they got SD and HD versions in there. They're trying to get people to pay for the HD version lol.

You can also find a bunch of m3u playlists on github.

Yes.
Besides paying for an IPTV I've used Cinema app, BeeTV, TeaTV and most recently Flix Vision apps to stream any series I want for free.

Yes, my IPTV does have on demand sections for both TV and movies, and I just looked and all 3 of those shows are there, all seasons, and I tried random episodes of each and they all started playing instantly.

That said, I usually use Cinema HD app for all my on demand stuff because it's rock solid reliable and I'm used to it.

I'll take a PM about the one you use if you don't mind. I've tried multiple IPTV providers in the past and they all worked, but my big thing is getting my wife to even look at the interface. She likes being able to click on Hulu or Netflix and pulling up her binge shows, not trying to find everything and then favorite it. Are there any fixes for that? I personally don't care so IPTV is fine with me, but it would be nice if she liked it as well. We cut the cable years ago and I ditched Sling back in Feb to just use IPTV and Kodi for the programs I want to watch that Hulu and Netflix don't have.

dang, that's a great run for an IPTV if you've had it for several years. Longest I think I've gotten has been just over a year
Just looked and I've had it since April 2022, and they closed new sign-ups about 6 months later IIRC.

IPTV Smathers Pro will suck any IPTV account into their interface and it seemed pretty nice and slick for the short time I've played around with it.

If these services are legitimate (legal), why the short shelf life? Everybody wants cheap, all-inclusive tv right?
They're on the fringe of legality. They don't host any illegal content, rather, they provide playlists that point the user to go get them from a host of sources. The sources are definitely illegal. But even if they've done nothing illegal that doesn't stop the big picture companies from sending cease and desist and lawsuits. It's also just a matter of coding and knowing where the streams are being hosted so any code junkie could set up an iptv company get a bunch of cash and shutting down to avoid the headaches. Rince and repeat. The ones that close to new sign ups are trying to hit the sweetspot.

I suggest troypoint dot com as a website that lists the best and most stable IPTV services.

I had some time so I installed and tested the latest versions of the following on-demand FREE apps. I tested with Dept Q Espisode 4. Resulted in the rankings below.

#1 Flix Vision
This is lately becoming the best in the biz. Had 20+ streams available including 4 that were "direct link". The others were labeled "embed" The 1080p direct links worked flawlessly with zero wait time and zero buffering. They also have over 18,000 channels in their live tv section (4,000+ in the US). You have to load your own in the other apps.

#2 BeeTV
Had 20+ streams available including a couple that were 2K. But I couldn't get the 2K streams to work without buffering. Was able to find 1080p that worked fine. Seemed to have more than #3 ranked TeaTV.

#3 TeaTV
This is the one I've been using for the past 3 years or so (until now) when Cinema started having issues. Had 20+ streams. 1080p is hit and miss, always able to find a 720p stream that worked.

#4 CinemaHD
Had trouble finding and loading an ad free* version. Had 8 streams all from CDN-fastserver. They worked as just as they used to 3 years ago when I was using Cinema regularly.

*A lot of the websites try to sell you on using a VPN when using these. I don't think it's necessary, but, there is one benefit if you have one. By setting your VPN to block adds you can use the ad versions of these apps and the ads will get blocked by the VPN 99% of the time.

Thank you for the explanation. I’m all for sticking it to big, obnoxious conventional providers, but not willing to do something quasi-legal to accomplish that goal. Moreover, I’ll pay a little for the convenience of not constantly shuffling apps.

We are cheap and poor, not your typical FBG.

We've finally done it. 2 months ago we turned off our TV cable service, got an indoor OTA antenna, and used our Wii for Netflix, which we had been using for sometime. Then got a Roku (HD version much better than Wii) for another TV in the house. Got the cable bill the next month and the phone portion was still $62 a month including taxes.

So I went out and got the MajicJack at BestBuy last week. Had to tweak my host PC a bit to get it to run well all the time. It worked great, but the one place (so far) that couldn't call my new number was every phone from work. I had to contact the phone carrier that my work uses because they did not have the new prefix working. I think what happens is YMAX (MajicJack)has some prefixes in area codes and they do no get setup in certain telecom's exchanges, for whatever reason.

So that's over $100 a month saved, and really more over time because they are always upping the charges (and taxes). Now that I no longer use phone or cable, I can shop internet service. Looks like I can get that for $20/month for 8Mbps, which is $10 a month cheaper that we are paying now.

I know the MajicJack seems a little chintzy, but it works! Plus we still have our work cell phones.

Who else?
8Mbps! 🙃

TiViMate is the only way to go with IPTV, I ditched Smarters the second I switched. Total game changer. The interface and customization is second to none.

This, TIVIMate is a game changer for IPTV. The guide is a lot like DirecTV, Dish or cable providers. It is very customizeable and works great with all providers.

Are there any issues with pron ads popping up? I don't particularly want my 12 year olds to see that sort of stuff.

No, I have not seen that.

How does IPTV handle on-demand recordings for local news? Maybe that's not the appropriate wording, but we currently have YTTV and record our local 6PM and 11PM news every day. Very often don't watch it live. Would I be able to find a recording of my local 6PM news if I wanted to watch it at 7PM for instance?

Probably on the actual news station you tube page or website. They normally put that stuff up to view later.

I've tried recording from IPTV and it hasn't worked out, but I'm not very literate when comes to techie stuff. As CheifD said, most local stations have an app or website where you can watch replays.

DVR is the one weak spot of IPTV. TIVImate does have a DVR option to record and watch later, but I have lost chunks of shows that I recorded due to buffering from time to time which is weird because when watching live I rarely get any buffering.

I've been using either Cinema or CyberFlix over the years. Usually when one gets glitchy, the other works fine. I'll have to check out the others you listed. Do you use RD with the others as well? Does that help increase the stream count/reliability?

NewsOn app. You can watch your local news live or whenever you pull it up it will show the latest one that aired

I don't use RD, never had a reason to. I've heard it increases the number of reliable streams, thus the purpose, but I rarely have issues without paying for it.

I'm spectrum. Dumped the DVR so now it's the basic app service at 97 bucks a month. I'd dump it, but they give the following streaming services included for free:

HBO Max
Paramount
Peacock
AMC plus
Disney

I'm holding. For now.
Yes I get those thru Spectrum too. They are usually also in the packages. Several even carry local Spectrum news channel.

NewsOn app. You can watch your local news live or whenever you pull it up it will show the latest one that aired
Many services have a "catch-up" feature to watch a show that you missed live. Assuming the service carries your local news channels.
