We've cut the cable (4 Viewers)

Thank you for this.  I stopped being lazy and jumped back a couple pages and found your link.  VERY helpful.

I am also extremely interested in this REDZONE and NFL network access via Sony.  Does anyone know if there is a DVR type function within the PS4?  I am guessing there is not one for the PS3.  I will still be on 2nd shift for most of the season and it would be great to be able to watch the weekday games when I get home at midnight.

You might want to look into NFL replay for that.  Come Monday morning you can watch all the previous weekend's games, and it's like $20 for the season or something.

Vue has cloud storage of "shows" that you choose to record for up to 28 days.  I assume this would include NFL games broadcast on NFL Network, but, am not certain.

This could be an option for the weekday night games, but Sunday games aren't really the issues as I will only work a couple of Sundays during the NFL season, and should be home by the second half of the first games.

My question to this would be, how long after the weekday night games are played are they available for viewing on replay?  if it is immediately, or an hour, it is an option, but if it is next day or day after that, probably not so much.

Do you know at what time they let you watch the 1pm games?  I have a quality service, but there's no dvr and sometimes life gets in the way.  Pretty cool they give you the all 22 angle.

1pm Sunday games are available very early Monday morning (then blacked out during Monday Night football).

The day of reckoning is here for many!

The NFL and Sony just announced the Sony VUE will have access to the NFL Network and REDZONE beginning this season.

For the multitudes of people who had cable for NFL football, the game just changed.
:allthelikes:

SlingTV has every channel that will be covering the Olympics and today they announced that MSNBC and CNBC will be dropped down to the basic package so that everyone can have all the channels at no additional cost during the Olympics.

Cord cutting numbers have surpassed Charter which includes TWC and Bright house.  Cord cutting is now second on the list (if cord cutting was a company) in numbers only surpassed by Comcast.

Tony,

You're far more up to date on this stuff than me.  Do you know of any streaming services other than Vue that includes your locals?  I'm just a bit too far for an antenna to work reliably.  Just looking for ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox.  PBS and other would just be a bonus.

For some reason CBS isn't included with Vue in my zip code, and ABC is listed as "on demand"

are we still clearing cache and purging packages as often on the fire tv box?
You don't have to because it has more memory and better processor, but, it only takes a couple of seconds.  Two things about cache:

1- Video cache is a small amount of RAM used to store a few seconds of video (that is almost always immediately deleted) in case of slow downs or bumps in the stream.  Most error messages are caused by this.  Faster internet connection and faster processor helps resolve these issues.

2- Kodi itself doesn't store a lot of cache and use up extra memory.  However, different addons assign their own cache to save files for various reasons (updates, pre-downloading, etc.).  Sometimes they don't bother to delete the temporary files and it starts to take up memory space.  This is what causes you to run out of drive space. Larger drive space and regularly clearing cache and packages helps resolve these issues.

With a builds like Titanium with hundreds of addons installed number 2 is what fills up a stick's memory.

Not currently that I know of.  Sling has announced they will start to roll out live local channels, but, did not provide any time frame.  It's not in the current plans for Hulu that I've heard.

Another thing you can try is downloading the app (if available) for your local broadcast channel.  Some of them will let you sign on with your Vue subscription.  I know for PBS you can sign up with them for free and watch it on their app on Roku and online (PC).

I looked earlier today, and I think mine only said local 12, and the rest were "on demand".  Does that mean that I wouldn't be able to watch live programming on those channels?  that would almost defeat the purpose of having the vue.

If that is the case, I hope the REDZONE and NFL network are standalone and then I will just pay for that and get an antenna.

I'm not sure, as I don't have Vue.  I believe ABC in my area carries Jeopardy, which my family loves to watch as my son is having his "before bed" bottle.  That's really the only thing we'd like to watch "live", everything else can be on demand.

I got the Fire TV delivered finally.  It was a quick setup to get Kodi and Titanium up and running.  I had to try twice - first time, I clicked OK after installation instead of unplugging/replugging the Fire TV.

Netflix looked all jacked up in the menu, but updating the Fire TV fixed it.  I'm up and running.  Thanks, @tonydead, for collecting all the info in one place.   Some of the videos you link are now listed as private, but I was able to find alternates.

NFL rewind is gone. NFL game pass is $99 from July 31st. It will now include audio of
live games. This is the replacement for Sunday ticket if you don't need out of market games live.

I need recommendations on the best way to stream espn and NBCSN. It may be that I just hit up my friends for a cable password and use the apps, but would prefer to stream them. I have an Amazon fire tv.  tia

Try the playstation vue app on Fire.  You can get a free trial (I think a week).  They have ESPN 1 and 2, FS1 and 2, and NBCSN in their cheapest package.

Need this for the olympics?  Sling tv is making all the nbc channels part of the base streaming packages so people can get the olympics.

I haven't had any luck getting "live tv" streaming via kodi.  Occasional feeds that looks worse than basic SD< never any HD streams.  Still great for TV shows and movies, though.

Just an update for the Olympics.  Excluding the golf channel all other channels broadcasting the Olympics will be available in both Sling and Vue base packages.  For the first time in over 100 years Golf is back in the Olympics and if you want to watch Olympic golf coverage you can get the golf channel in both packages for an extra $5.

Your NFL Game Pass subscription is set to renew, and while we will no longer be offering Game Pass Season Subscription, we are excited to be providing you a complimentary upgrade to 2016 Season Plus*! With the Season Plus package you will have all of the same features as before AND MORE... access to 250+ LIVE games including preseason, Playoffs and Super Bowl LI, NFL RedZone, 24/7 NFL Network, Archives, access on all of your devices, downloadable games, Coaches Film and condensed games.
For NFL.com VPN users. $129 (Turkey)

If I understood the lady at Sony Vue support correctly (but I must disclaim, I have come to find out that they sometimes are innocently unaware as they are trained on the "sell the package" but can't really talk nuts and bolts about "zip code XXXXX"), then if its "on demand" then its on the delay and they don't have the rights for live broadcast YET (but they are working out hundreds of individual agreements literally city by city). The way you KNOW if you're live on the big 4 is if your package is not called "slim" and you are paying $8-$12 more than the generic website pricing.

I can tell you that CBS is a stick widget all the way around. They make it very difficult to get, in general, via streaming unless you pay their fee (I think they are one of the more aggressive broadcasting companies which, from the beginning, tried to find ways to wrangle this into a controllable revenue stream).

My personal tactic on this has been to go slim package (cause that is what available to me ATM) and get an OTA antenna. The leaf is cheap and awesome. Can't laud it enough.  And then HOPE TO THE FF HEAVENS that RZ/NFL Network is offered up like Showtime as a $14.99 standalone with a discount to $9.99 for PS PLUS subscribers.  That would be ideal to me, however, I feel it is going to land right smack dab in the middle VUE plan.

So, cross my fingers.  Honestly, I am in a good enough position with being able to get ESPN w/o a package that if it is offered as a true standalone, I can see myself with a $10/mo bill, period.

I am loving TonyDead's news about how cutters are now #2 in number. That is a SIGNIFICANT statement.  Where do you get that TD?

Also, for all you guys in transition, etc, I'll share this:  My Bro-in-law is on the fence on this and the other day I said, "try this...call your TWC and tell them you got a better deal with VUE just to see how they react.  A simple 15-20 minute call got him $15 off a month and 12 months of free Showtime.  The cable companies know the score.

Just grabbed a month of Sling Blue + World News pack.  $30 for all Olympics other than golf is fine with me.

Okay, this sucks.  I got Sling for the month to watch the Olympics, since the blue package has all the channels other than the golf channel*

*If you're in one of the top 8 markets or so in the US.  Otherwise, you don't get the main NBC channel.  I can't watch the opening ceremonies.

Try the NBC sports app with your sling credentials. I don't get live NBC with Vue, but was able to activate NBC sports

Ok now I’m in!

I need some advice.

I have a fire TV (with Kodi on it) and a fire TV stick (stick just came today)

If I go the PS Vue route I will need to add a 3rd device (probably another fire stick) because there are 3 of us in the house.

I just checked my internet speed it was 54 Mbps. Is that fast enough to stream those 3 devices at once?

Should I upgrade to a higher speed or should I upgrade my router to one that has the smart connect?

The router I have now is a DLink 605L

Sorry man, my bad for pimping the Sling advertisement.  I was just trying to provide info (I don't subscribe to sling).  Let me know how I can make it up to you.

If you're looking to upgrade a new router would be your best bet.  The one you have should be able to handle everything for 3 people (300Mbps), but, its not close to the newest AC/Gbps standards.  Your 54Mbps is great.

Not your fault - google "Olympics vue sling" and you'll get 10 articles that all tell you that Sling Blue gets you all the Olympic channels.

This is the world we live in - all media outlets assume you are 28, single, and live in California, Chicago, or the northeast megalopolis.

Did you try the NBC Sports app?

NFL Network has launched on Slingtv.  "Blue" subscribers will get NFL Network as a part of the base package.  Redzone is an additional $5 add.

Possible way for Vue subscribers watch NFL Network on PC devices.  Some say it works, some say it doesn't (I don't have Vue to test it out):

Go to the CBS live webpage, sign on with your Vue account and then navigate over to NFL online web page.

NFL network live on vue already?

Good deal. Hoping Vue pricing is comparable.

I worry about Sling's ability to handle the load and would rather pay a few extra $$.

I did try, Sling wasn't one of the options.

I ended up adding USTVNow on to my Titanium.  It's accessible as a submenu from one of the other channels, but the quality appears to be better on the direct USTVNow feed.  I've been able to watch NBC using that.
