We've cut the cable (3 Viewers)

This is what I have:

Locals plus 30-40 other channels OTA.

Vue with 55+ channels.

Netflix

Prime, which I consider free anyways.

Then Kodi for next day viewing or anything I might want to see that's not available in what I service for.

If you want HBO just figure $15 a month and you get it through a service like Sling tv or just stand alone.
What is Kodi?  Googling now.

I can understand that.

My luck with Kodi has not been good.  I prefer the exact nature of torrenting.  I know the quality will be there when I want to watch it.

I will continue to monitor Kodi to see if I can find more consistent streams for my family.
Are you using Exodus?

ETA:  I'd say the first link in Exodus works flawlessly 80% of the time and the 2nd or 3rd 100% of the time for me.

Vue is going to be a winner due to live feeds.  But I guess I get live feeds through antennas.

Got fed up with dtv yesterday and canceled.  What is the preferred base package?  Hulu, sling, vue, or other.  Got amazon prime.  Will pay for HBO.  New to this, be gentle.
I have local OTA antenna

Netflix via Amazon fire stick (just ordered a 2016 Roku stick for my other TV)

Amazon prime - pays for itself just on the $$ I save on buying razors and bird food. Older HBO shows are available for free with amazon prime...http://www.amazon.com/HBO-Providers/b?node=293883011

Going look into Vue and Kodi but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a cable login so that opens up a lot more for me (including HBOGO).

Kodi has completely replaced that process for me.  No more downloading.  I never was a watch it more than once guy though so I don't have and desire to collect videos.
I  may get to that point with kodi, but at least for tv shows, having newsgroups and sickbeard make dling tv shows so simple.  I just have sickbeard configured with all the shows I watch and it automatically downloads new episodes for me.  Someone mentions a new show, I go to sickbeard site on my media server, add the show and it monitors for that show now as well.

   I never quite made it to sickbeard.

I don't think I am.

Since I have not cut the cord yet I have only experimented with Kodi on my various computers.  I will keep Exodus in mind, thank you for the tip!

I have never tried Sickbeard.  That sounds very cool.

How does it know which version of which show to download as their are typically multiple copies to Torrent for each episode, of varying quality levels.

Vue will give you live feeds of all the stations in their package, not just the locals that you can get via antenna.

And don't forget about your local regional sports channels.  You can not get those with an antenna so if you follow local teams, make sure you have that area covered if needed.

Note that Vue only has the locals for I think 7 cities right now (listed a few days ago in this thread).

Any idea when that may happen? I was trying to research the other day and was coming up empty.
I assume this will occur similar to how it happened for DBS back in the 90's and there was really no forewarning.  Every so often a new group of locals would be available on satellite.

I am just going to keep monitoring the best I can.  I am going to look for redit page for Vue as they would likely keep up to date with the latest news.

Their Elite package is pretty much all the channels we currently watch regularly. For the price, if they get locals, it would be a no-brainer for me.

I think the channel packages I saw were near perfect for my family as well.  It is amazing how many channels on DTV we never go near but if you try and go to a smaller package they always seem to be missing channels my family watches.

I was seriously considering Vue, but they don't have local channels for DC area. I'm about 60 miles south of DC, so antenna would be really dicey.
I'm about that far west, and was told they did offer locals (haven't tried yet).  Hmm.....

Sorry, I see now that they are "on demand" and not live.  My bad.

When you get a chance, try logging in to HBOGo.com with your Comcast credentials.
I just looked this up for my area.

I think it is included in a service above the one I get (I currently get the cheapest package for internet).  It looks like it starts in the 25M package but I am going to try anyway just in case!  Thanks for the heads up.

I just downloaded Exodus and it looks very nice.  I only tried one show so far but the stream was crystal clear.
Yeah, it's the new Genesis.  It kind of went Genesis ->Channel 1 ->Exodus to which was the best.  It seems every so often you just need to keep updated on what the latest and greatest is as they fix streaming issues and release new apps.

I've been seeing cheap/off-brand HDTVs with Roku built in a lot lately. I think they're all TCLs.

This is the first 4K I've seen, though.
I just got one of those TCL Roku TVs for my bedroom and it's working great so far. I think I paid $150 for a 32" HD (720p). I watch very little TV in there, so I didn't need top of the line, but I'm happy with it.

this is interesting...TWC TV app on roku:

Time Warner Cable

Developer:Time Warner Cable

Now you can watch live TV right through your Roku. As a TV customer with Time Warner Cable, you can access up to 300 channels of live TV easily, and for free, with your Roku. Enjoy Bravo, Food Network, your favorite premium channels and original series, sports, news programming and hundreds more. Find and watch your shows by browsing the channel guide by genre and view detailed program descriptions with photos and cast information. You can quickly and easily find what you want through your recently viewed and favorite channels. You just need to have TWC’s standard TV service (or higher) and an Internet connection (customers without Time Warner Cable Internet service should contact customer care for set-up assistance).

I used their app all last season for Redzone.  Opened it on a tablet and mirrored it to the TV and it worked "okay".  I did think the interface was good. Very logically laid out.

Beats me.   The only thing you define is the show you want and what quality of which there's a few options.

I think you'll figure out what Kodi is by googling, but, it might be a little overwhelming where to start so if you have a firestick just do this:
Downloaded and set everything up, now what do I do?   Can't even figure out how to watch anything on Kodi.  :bag:

Depends on what you want to watch.  You'll need "add ons" to find content.  My favorite is exodus (discussed here and can be found on youtube).  There are others as well.

Also, you first (and easiest) step should have been to see what channels you can pick up simply by an antenna.

are you past the point where you have installed Exodus?

If so, go to the Programs Menu in Kodi and select Addons and launch Exodus.

After that, search on a TV title (for example) and then select it when the choices are given to you.  After that you will be presented with seasons folders and in the folders will be individual episodes.  Double click on an episode and choose a stream to watch it.

When you say you "downloaded and set up everything" does that mean Kodi in general or specifically Exodus (since it's been mentioned above)?

If you just installed Kodi and did nothing else you can kick the tires simply by going to any add on (channel) and check out the content. If you want something specific it's kind of trial and error to know which adds are out there and have the content you're looking for (i.e. sports, movies, TV shows, etc.).

If you are specifically looking for Exodus did you set up the Addon Installer and install Exodus? That's kind of step 2 after installing/setting up Kodi.

Also, if you are having buffering issue you may want to read this:

http://www.tekto-kodi.com/kodi-how-to-tutorials/kodi-advanced-settings/

I wasn't having very good results before making some modifications. Almost never have any issues now.

This is why that Kodi Gorilla Build I installed this week is so nice.  Lays out all your addons by major categories:  Sports, News, Movies, TV Shows, Music, Adult :oldunsure:  (They are all preloaded on there for you as well, big time saver not having to go through Addon Installer, etc..)

Anyway, go to youtube and find it and load it up.  It'll make things much easier for you.

I posted a link to it earlier this week.  Ill have to find it and repost, but if you just do a search on youtube for "Kodi Gorilla Build"  you should find it.  Guy shows you whats on it and how to load it.

It takes me to settings when I launch, cant get to apps.

Did you make it through all 5 steps?  To check and make sure you've installed everything goto Programs> Addon Installer.  Do you see Addon Installer?  If you do select it then select Favorites/Recommended Featured and scroll until you find Exodus.  Click on exodus just to make sure you have it installed.

Otherwise from the main screen select Videos>Addons>Exodus.  Once Exodus launches choose either Movies or TV shows (for testing purposes choose TV Shows. I'll explain later).  From here I do either one of two things (again for testing purposes do #2):

1- If you know what you are looking for scroll to the bottom and select Search.  When the type window pops up type in the name of the movie or show and select Done.  You have to spell it exactly, there is no spelling auto correct and stuff like apostrophes in the title will screw you up, try without apostrophes.

2- If you just want to browse movies or shows to watch select People Watching.

Once you have selected a movie or show a box will pop up showing all the available streams.  Select one of the streams, usually just the first one.  If nothing happens after a minute or two try another stream.

I told him to follow this:

Do what, install Kodi?

1- Download the ARM version for Android here.

2- Sideload it onto your firetv by following this.

3- Install the fusion installer by following this.

4- Then addon installer.

5- Currently the best addon is Exodus.
Did I miss anything?  Should just be Video>Addons>Exodus.
