What Are Your Feats Of Strength? (1 Viewer)

Can someone find or link to that post from way back where the guy offered an open bet for anyone in a series of athletic feats and posted his stats? I can picture it but don’t remember the posters name.
Matuski?

No - this was a legendary schtick post from about 20 years ago that was reposted over and over.

Was his that he could beat Roy Jones Jr in a boxing match or something?

No - Ramsey got it. His handle was “Magnificent *******” and the post was a schtick challenge that he would beat anyone in a high stakes series of 1v1 challenges in baseball, basketball, golf, and other sports. It was hilarious at the time and had a long shelf life but seems to have been lost over time.

Here it is:

Here's your chance to step up and prove your skills.

Let me know where you live and when I am in your city (I travel often) I
will humiliate you in the sporting contest(s) of your choice and then I
will take your woman (if she is hot) out for a gourmet meal....I am not
responsible for any advances she might (will) make during dinner.

Rules are as follows -

1. Hoops. Costs $20 up front to play me (Game = 21 by 1's and 2's) You
beat me (you won't) I pay $100 cash on the spot. When I beat you, I keep
your $20.

Keep in mind that I have a lethal x-over and a 33" vert. You *will* get
dunked on. Repeatedly.

2. Baseball. I fan you on 5 pitches or less. Cost: $20 up front, pay out
is the same as basketball with the following caveats:

a. Solid contact pays $300 cash, on the spot.
b. Going yard pays $3,000 cash, on the spot.

Keep in mind, that I have filthy, nasty stuff. Exploding slider, wicked
splitty, heavy fastball, good change.

3. Baseball Part II. You pitch to me, cost is $30 up front. If I don't
hit everything you throw (If you can get anything near the plate) on the
screws, I pay you $2000.00 in cash.

4. Football. Punt, pass, kick. Cost is $50 up front. Out distance me
and I'll pay you $4,500
Here are my current averages:

Pass: 63 yds
Punt: 52 yds
Kick: 61 yds

Total: 176 yds!

4. Swim. 50M freestyle. $25 up front. You beat me in best 2 out 3 and I
pay you $500 on the spot.

5. Boxing or mixed martial arts. Trust me. Do *NOT* even think about
going there.

Yeah - It was in this thread.

1500 lbs club.
If serious, that's a #### ton (well, 3/4 of a ####ton) and quite amazing to be honest. 1000 would be a pipedream for me, and would take several years to acheive.
Yea. That’s serious. I got into the 1200 club and almost hit 1300 but there was no way I was ever getting to 1500. That’s big boy strength.
I may have lifted 1500 lbs over my entre life if you count every rep ever done and added up the total weight.......but it's still probably a no.

I am not lifting anything close to 1500 lbs. My comment specifically said I don't think you could combine all the weights I have lifted in my life to add up to 1500 lbs.

I'm assuming it's combined bench press, barbell squat, and deadlift.

Interesting. That's dumbbell kickback weight for me.

Yes, it's the three major powerlifting lifts. And you can film your lifts and send them into some guys who will give you some "certified" merch for being in the 1000 lb club, the 1200 lb club, or the 1500 lb club.

I've been lifting for close to 30 years now. I had some points in there where I didn't lift for a year or two at a time. Ultimately its due to military related deployments. 4,6 or 12 months deployed downrange with nothing to do except work, eat and workout. Basically prison strong.

Yeah, its a combined one rep max for Bench, Squat and Deadlift done within the same hour.

That's impressive. 1100 is probably where I'm at today. Just curious what are your individual numbers on these lifts?
Bench 430
Deadlift 515
Squat 555
Yowza. Those are definitely big boy numbers. Very impressive.
I'm dialing back from that for now. I enjoy going to the gym and hitting new PRs, but I'm 43 now and feeling the wear on my body. I definitely wanted to drop some weight for the summer, so dialing down the 1rep max training. Maybe next winter I'll see how I'm feeling. I've mentally said at 45 I'm done messing with big weights, but I'll see if I follow through. It's almost a mental health thing for me at this point.

I'd also add that coaching and training go a long way. Learning how to engage different muscles and how to position yourself can probably add a 10% increase to most lifters.

I'm 47 and around 44 was when i also started to pull back from what i consider heavy. I stick to a version of Wender 5-3-1 now as i feel it keeps me functionally strong and keeps a steady increase on the table without going to failure or getting really heavy. My main focus isn't lifting, but I also love/need it for my mental health.

Solid form can't be taken for granted that's forsure.

Seeing videos of horrendous injuries of people lifting too much weight makes me wonder why so many people do this sort of thing. Seems like the risk isn't worth the reward. Lifting is great and being in shape is great but maxing out on weights that are crazy big seems like a big risk to me.

A lot of those are definitely stomach churning. I can't watch if I know something bad is about to happen. It sucks because a lot of the time people aren't doing anything "wrong". Their bodies just give out. It's a risk and the downside of that risk sucks.

I see it like anything else and minimalize the risk in my mind. Same time I'll look at rock climbers, motorcyclists, extreme sports people and think they're the crazy ones. lol.

Yeah that's super impressive. In my peak fitness/lifting days I got over 1000 and thought that was really strong. I think I got there by going 315 on the bench (my strongest movement) and a good deadlift but my squat could never get much over 300 due to my bad form (in my early twenties I stupidly squatted with bad form). Couldn't even fathom how to get to 1500.

This is the part that really scares me. You can lift reasonable weight and get in very good shape and look good without going heavy weights. Every time I see people try to go with the extreme heavy weights it just doesn't make sense. Seems like a risk not worth taking. I guess kind of like the extreme sports you referenced. To each their own.

I just don't see the benefit of the extreme weight lifting.

Like most athletic feats (running a marathon to an ultra marathon, dunking a basketball, holding one's breath for several minutes, getting to like 3% body fat, etc.) there is really no tangible benefit. It's just a cool benchmark.

If it gives the lifter confidence via a sense of accomplishment, I get it and respect it even if there is no tangible benefit.

I guess I meant I don't understand the risk/reward aspect for the weights where your body can just explode to no fault of your own. Just too much risk for me.

Same with skydiving, ultra marathoning, racing, climbing mountain faces, etc. The reward is the rush of doing it and to say you do it.

To be clear, I'm not inherently challenging you or disagreeing with you. Heck, my main personal sport is now golf so I'm as risk averse as you. But I do "get it" when it comes to these extreme athletes.

This is a good way to put it. In my mind it's a you vs you thing. Try to be better than your old self.
