What is the best mattress? (2 Viewers)

Foundation? Can't we just put the new mattress on our existing bed?
I'm sure you could. I have a queen frame and box spring now and am moving up to a king so the old frame and box spring are going to the curb. They do say, however, that a solid, inflexible foundation allows you to reap the full benefits of the foam/latex mattresses and for that reason they don't recommend putting them on a box spring. I'm sure you could do it, though.

EG, this is the foundation we got. And this is the mattress pad. For the foundation $300 was more than I wanted to spend, but considering I plan on having the mattress (or similar type) for a long time, I figured the investment was worth it. And as I said, the manufacturer said:

"That foundation would work perfectly with the Leesa mattress. It will provide the right amount of support as well as the flat surface required.

Also the mattress protector you sent over will work great as well. It is waterproof and also breathable so it is exactly what you would look for. If you have any interest in a different one I would suggest to make sure the material is breathable. That is important to keep the airflow going in that top layer of Avena foam."

Thanks man. Only problem with that one for me is that I store a lot of crap under the bed so ideally, I'd want something that raises off the floor.

Just a heads up for anyone else...despite what that top review says, I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be used for a Casper mattress. Their site recommends a foundation with no more than 3" of separation between the slats.

We took that foundation and put it on the headboard/footboard/rails that our old bed was on. So for our setup, it is still raised off of the ground. What is your current boxspring sitting on? This should go right on that device.

I would recommend doing what I did...email the company you are going to go with and ask them if they are OK with the one you want to get. If they say yes, you are free and clear (and should be fine with warranty issues, should they arise).

Need some help re any recent bed in a box purchases.

We bought a Pac Bamboo maybe 4 or so years ago based on this thread. It's amazing. Still the best night of sleep we ever get.

Last year I bought my parents a new mattress. The BIAB had doubled in price (we had bought ours for $700), so I did some research and got them a Sleep Innovations off amazon. It's way more firm and not nearly as comfortable as our BIAB

Parents aren't thrilled with it. But they stayed at our house his weekend with the kids and slept in our bed and were raving about the mattress. So I'd like to get one for them. Two problems. First, it looks like the price has as least doubled. Is that right? Is it just that the quality is so good and they got so popular that they inflated hem? Second, I don't see a model anymore with the same name. Now I only see PacBamboo Gel. Is that the one I want if I want a copy of the same mattress?

Thanks. By the way, I travel a ton and stay in all sorts of hotel beds, including some really nice hotels. This BIAB bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in. Everybody should own one. And these folks spending 3 or 4 grant on a bed? I can't imagine them being that much better. But who knows.
Gotta get three new complete beds for a vacation house and went back to BIAB... Couldnt believe the price increase. We bought ours 6 years ago (as you said) for half the price and love it. But now I am not sure if they are the way to go because of the price. Thinking about going with the Dreamfoam from Amazon mentioned earlier.

Simmons, stop wasting your time and money. I have one in bedroom #1 that is a 15 year old queen and some posters here at FBG have slept on that bed. I'm laying on it now typing. About as good as new.

Bedroom #2 has a King in it and also gives a great night's sleep.

Serta? Killed one inside of 2 years

Sealy? 18 months had to get rid of it.
Curious, are you a large man?

My wife likes a firm mattress and I prefer soft. We're constantly switching between pulling our memory foam topper off our ####ty box spring or leaving it on. We recently went to sleep number and am close to pulling a trigger on the p6 mattress with the sleep thing that tells you how well you're slepping and suggests a new firmness level every so often.

Any experience here? Is the sleep quality technology worth it? I don't see any other options considering how drastic we prefer our mattresses, anyone else had a similar experience that found a compromise that both were happy with or am I stuck spending the cash on sleep number.

Talked the wife into the lowest level sleep number about a year ago. She wasnt excited about it but once she found her sleep number she loves it. I am very happy with it myself. Ironically I think we ended up with similar sleep numbers. We do have the sleep iq and it was nice to use the first month or so to get it figured out. Now I dont really look at it too much. Probably should. I believe you can use it for a short trial period and get refunded on that if you choose so it doesnt hurt to try it out. I do wish I had spent a few more dollars to get a higher end one but overall I cant complain and do like the bed. And if I am still happy with it after 10-15 years it will have been worth it (says its guaranteed for 20 and most regular mattresses are said to need changing after 8, but that could just be bed makers marketing)

Just an update, the Dreamfoam memory foam bed is really comfortable. Soft but still very supportive, really high quality build. Absolute steal at $710 for a king.

So we ended up going a cheaper route.  One of those new Bob's Furniture stores opened near us about a year ago.  I noticed they were selling memory foam couches.  I've been asking why more companies don't go this route.  So we went in to check out the couches and turns out they have their own version of memory foam.  It's called Bob-o-pedic.  But they had some cheap deals and a 30 day money back guarantee.  So we bought a new mattress and couch, both with memory foam.

Both are amazing!  I had the best night's sleep I've had my entire life the past two nights.  And that's not hyperbole.  I feel so rested when I wake up and my back no longer aches.  It's awesome.  The couch is great, too.  Love this stuff.

Anyone have a tempurpedic?  What about the breeze option?  Does it work to make it less hot?  I'm a side sleeper and looking for a new mattress.  Any in[ut or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

update?  considering one of these.  curious how they compare to tempurpedic and sleep number specifically.  my current mattress is done.  need to make a change soon.
It is ok. It's not life changing. The mattress itself is about 2 inches thinner than advertised (it's only 8 inches, says it inflates to 10). My back hurts every once in a while from it. I still have some time left on the 100 days. Debating on whether or not to return it. Anything in particular you'd like to know?

Is anyone here who's bought one of the shipped in a box memory foam beds a bigger guy? I'm 6'5" and usually around 280 and not sure if these beds will hold up under someone my size. Any big fellas have experience they'd care to share?

Take a look at latex foam mattresses.

That was indeed sort of out of left field, but I think that's what he's getting at.
and I've never seen her name spelled.  Only thought that came to mind was that something was wrong with the coils  :lmao:

Tested many. Foam was a no go. Too uncomfortable. This one has tighter coils and firm as hell, which I need. My old one is 15 years and my back kills me when I sleep on it because its way too soft now.

Scenario:

- I have a PacBamboo Bed in a Box, that I love (and so does gf)

- my gf has a complete piece of garbage spring mattress that has sinkholes and ridges all over the place.  Every time I sleep over there I don't get good rest and wake up with a back ache.

- She knows it's not a great mattress, but she's used to it and it doesn't really bother her much so she's not overly motivated to invest in anything new. (Although when she sleeps at my place she usually has a good night sleep, but at her house she's always waking up....coincidence?  but I digress)

- We will most likely be moving in together, but due to misc. circumstances, that probably won't happen for another 2 yrs

So, I plan to be with this girl long term and will be having lots of sleepovers at her place within the next 2 yrs, but eventually we'll use my mattress when we move in together and not need hers anymore.   Where I'm going with this....I want her to get a new mattress that is comfortable, but because it's just a shorter term fix don't want her spending a lot of money on it.

I'm thinking around $500 is a sound investment....what's my best option?   As noted above would be great to get something similar to my PacBamboo Bed in a Box.  We both sleep hot so want to keep that in mind as well with the cheapo memory foam.

Kind of In the same boat. 6'2.5 250 (ish) and because of my lifestyle/sleep habits  (toss, turn, sleep on side, stomach) I've been very sore upper shoulders/lower back/ hips for about a year now

Buddy works for a company where he gets a significant discount on tempur pedic so I've been testing beds (need least test each bed 10-15 min) and the Tempur Flex Supreme Breeze seems to be what I'll end up getting (cali king $2200 after tax) also sleep hot and buddy who's got the hook up has same variables..  uses that bed above also. It's medium firm.

he did advise the ergo base because of how I sleep which can help. Also would help train me to start sleeping on my back since I'm so big muscle wise (bodybuilding )  but even with discount be another 1500-2k. Debating

Hope that helps. And no sleep number is just knock off. He went to a company seminar recently about how tempur is doing something that will test ur vitals, breathing patterns, etc for best bed and best sleep.  Pretty interesting from what he said.  Find out real info instead off top my head stuff an re post... ButTempur pedic way to go IMO

Worth it. I've found out hard way how important sleep is to the value for my life. I'm much less of an #######  when I get it  :scared:

Old post from 2012 - still extremely happy with this $400 mattress almost four years in...

FBGs are very happy with these two Sleep Innovations beds from Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Sleep-Innovations-10-inch-Memory-Mattress/dp/B003CT37JM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1340539438&sr=8-2&keywords=sleep+innovations

My wife and I are happier and happier with the 10-inch version as time goes on. I think we're about 6 months in now and one of us will mention how much we like the bed about once per week.

What's the upside of 12" vs 10" ?  Do these sleep hot at all?
The 12" inch is a little firmer than the 10".  Both my wife and I don't like soft beds so that's why we started with 12" right off the bat.  You could buy the 10" and if it's too soft then you could get another 2" topper, but that's more $$$$.

We do not have any issues with the bed sleeping hot.  My wife actually thinks it's cooler.  Me - I don't notice it either way.  I'm very comfortable in the summer or winter.  No back issues at all since we moved to the Sleep Innovations.

Was debating between two online only bad - Leaf and Loom and Leesa.  The Leesa was only going to be $910 shipped (plus a $25 Amazon card) for a King but went with a West Heavenly Bed since we get a big discount through my SIL.

Did some reading on it and memory foam beds apparently hold up better than innerspring beds.

Any newer recommendations on decent spring beds. I have a foam bed and hate it. Also not impressed with sleep number. I need something that doesn't feel like im sleeping on the freaking floor.

How many people here realized they were allergic to memory foam after getting a new mattress? And how long did it take you to figure out that it was the mattress causing it?

Been sleeping on the Saatva for about a week now.  I'm pretty impressed with the quality of the materials used in the mattress.  We got the luxury firm version and while it's firm, it's extremely comfortable to sleep on.  I'm a back sleep with occasional stints on my side.  I actually look forward to hitting the sheets these days.  I will continue to update as I get more experience but for the <$1,500 we paid (vs the $2k+ we paid 15 years ago at a mattress store) I'm extremely pleased.

we bought a sleep innovation memory foam topper. we've had it about 2-3 weeks at this point. It's a nice stop-gap before going all-in on one of these full mattress ones.
