What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Welcome to your new addicition. Lol. I trade for tons of those NE IPAs, they really are unlike anything else out there and on another level. I hear Trillium uses flaked wheat, which form what I understand is what creates that soft mouth feel. If you ever see any of the DDH varieties (Melcher St, Congress St, etc) available, grab em, theyre the best of the best IMO.

Yeah, it might be a problem in hindsight -- this past week I tried to drink some merely "good" IPAs -- Two Hearted, Sculpin, and a couple of good local super-fresh growlers (Marty McRye and Western Sunrise from Four Fathers) -- after starting off with Trillium and they tasted completely meh in comparison. I'm actually kind of hoping my palate goes back to normal -- I have access to a TON of good hoppy beer here right outside of Chicago and it will really suck if most of them stay kind of blah for me.

I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for the DDH varieties -- IMO the Galaxy Dry Hopped Fort Point was probably the single best beer that I've ever tasted. I've had plenty of dry hopped beer before, but as you said, the use of hops by this brewery is just on an entirely different level. My mouth is watering just thinking about the DDH versions.

I've had a bunch of beers that have generated crazy hype on the beer forums, and while most of them were excellent, the big whalez are just one of many outstanding beers in a given style IMO, just usually more limited and harder to get. The Trillium (and the two Tree House) beers were the first time that I really felt that the hype was fully justified, maybe even understated somehow. Just a totally different drinking experience unlike anything else that I've ever had.

Assuming that nothing kicks before my bro gets to the brewery tonight after work, looks like I'll be getting 8 x Double Dry Hopped Fort Point, 4 x Cutting Tiles (ex Artaic), 4 x Congress Street, 4 x Summer Street, 4 x Pocket Pigeon which will arrive a week from this coming Sunday. Droooooooooool...

Also, what happened to this thread?  Is teh beer geekery completely dead here now? :dislike:

CDL...they will be releasing cans of Navaja soon. If that doesn't work...not sure what to say.

Hailstorm is making a few NE style ipas and pales. Nothing groundbreaking but I like Cumulus enough in a bind.

LOL -- I'll be grabbing some Navaja for sure. And Pipeworks stuff, and Surly, and FFF, etc. They're all damn good. But Trillium is better.

Bro grabbed my case today as described above, and I dropped off 2 cases of Zombie Dust and a few bombers to send in trade. I'll survive.

Just finished the yard work and cracked a ZD bottled Thursday -- just a great beer when it's that fresh. Have two chickens brining since yesterday in cider + my spicy BBQ rub that I'll throw on to hot smoke in an hour or so. Bombers of Arctic Panzer Wolf and Cimmerian Sabretooth Berzerker on deck for later -- figured that I'd return to my FFF roots this weekend.

Miami Brewing Co., Big Rod coconut ale.  Meh, I like the Kona brewing co. Beer that has a hint if coconut, but this one has too much coconut flavor.

Yeah, I've never had that particular beer, but agree 100% that adjuncts belong in a supporting role. When they take over completely:  :X

I had Hailstorm Stratus and it was very tasty. Can't wait for Navaja to hit, love that beer. Might be my favorite HA beer.

Agreed on Navaja -- it's outstanding. It's not a huge PITA to hop over to Open Bottle to grab my HA and Pipeworks stuff, but it would he so much easier if they distro'ed to NWI. Difference between running to the store over lunch during the week vs a several hour dedicated trip from Valpo on the weekend when I'm already slammed with travel volleyball for the kids and house / yard work. I know, 1st world problems LOL.

Last night went to Arrowhead Ales in New Lenox. Nice place. Had the following:

Weed Whacker - Hoppy wheat. Really good. Would buy if available to go.

Melon Collie and the Infinite Hoppiness - session ipa with honeydew. Got a bomber of this to go. Trying to close on a house in the area ( NC fell through) and it has a pool. Would be perfect for a poolside beer. The honeydew in it is interesting in a good way.

Coconut killjoy (on nitro)- so good. Porter with coconut and vanilla. Growler worthy.

Also took home a bottle of Devils Breakfast imperial oatmeal, coffee, and chocolate stout.

Had a sample of an upcoming oat ipa being released in a week or so. Balanced and crushable.  Looking forward to more from them.

On the way to Northern Wisconsin which is my temporary home at the in-laws. Have some HHG apa and cans of Moon Man waiting for me already. Bringing some Blueberry Thrill from Tyranena with me ( blueberry iipa with honey).

ZD x 7 thus far, chicken moving to direct to crisp, corn on the cob about to drop, zucchini, onions & peppers in foil with garlic and fresh oregano and basil steaming away next to the chicken. Life is good!

Yeah, I thought this too. Then I walked into a store that had a #### ton of Pseudo Sue and well....will hit up the NG tomorrow or during the week while fishing. Until then, TG it is.

Wedding reception at Coyland Creek outside Lewis, Wisconsin and we had NG Spotted Cow on draft all night along with Bells Two-Hearted and Coors Light

That's awesome!  Sue is fantastic. We head up to the Dells for a long weekend in the water parks a few times a year and I always look for TG but rarely find much outside of on tap. Granted, I'm not really hunting.

Enjoy your trip!

Especially at 8.99 per 4-pack. I pretty much stopped looking for anything else, except they had a couple of Alpine Nelson's that I grabbed. They are older but I don't care. I am in serious Nelson withdrawal....

Oh and grabbed a couple of 3 Sheeps Happy Summer! (ipa with amarillo, mosaic, and citra) which is really good too.

Hit Four Fathers for the release of Linea Bravo I -- sour Belgian brown ale aged 18 months in an oak Jolly Pumpkin barrel. It's good, really good. Also grabbed growlers of Western Sunrise and their new SMaSH pale HHF069. They're in the middle of expanding; if any of their stuff starts to hit distro, I'd recommend grabbing it. Haven't had anything less than good yet from them, and quite a few are outstanding. Definitely up and coming.

last night: KONA

grapefruit notes out the wazoo, potent punch ... woke up still drunk this morning, and grapefruit laced burps are the order of the day, thus far.

big fan

  :suds:

SMaSH HHF069 also balanced, delicious, and crushable. Round two of hot smoked chicken this weekend on too -- this one marinated in Chiavetta's (any Buffalo peeps will know this stuff), which is balsamic vinegar / spices. Since I switched over to hot smoking for chicken, my wife and kids just can't get enough of it, nor can I. Best chicken technique I've ever encountered by far.

Two new brew pubs/brewery openings I can't wait for...Une Anne/Hubbard's Cave in Niles and Mikerphone in Elk Grove Village. To that end had Hubbard's Fresh IIPA v3 and two new Mikerphone brews this weekend. Mikerphone's Off the Record (wit with orange and coriander) which is not my favorite style but damn was it good. Wah Wah, berliner with pineapple and mango, out####ingstanding. Loved it. Hubbard's v3 was very good but not as good as v1 or v2, it uses Topaz hops and didn't quite reach v1 or 2 for me. I can't wait for Une Anne's Le Seul Blueberry.

Linea Bravo I is freaking awesome. Couldn't resist cracking a bottle after dinner. Can't wait to see where the rest of them go with some age on them!

Westbrook Gose in Alabama...I was supposed to be in New Orleans by now but around Pensacola my car got a tire issue and I didnt wanna chance another 2.5 highway hours each way so I stopped at my final destination and had to skip Poboys, Gumbo, and GnR tonight. Im out $70 for the concert ticket but the hotel gave me a refund...still sucks a fat one.

Yup, but it is what it is. Im gonna go at the end of August instead, in my own vehicle, and Ill be able to stay about 30 hours instead of 10...I wouldnt have had much time tonight other than a quick bite and concert, then up early tomorrow. Next month Ill be able to hit NOLA Brewing and have some of Tipsy's BBQ, as well as the quarter for some drinks, oysters, etc. and can take my time and enjoy the visit more.

I'll be there the last weekend of August :oldunsure:

I've had it a bunch of times and like it -- but don't really know too much about it.
Ken Schramm is the godfather of mead. He literally wrote the book on it. Signature isn't one of the rares like Heart of Darkness or Black Agnes, but it's good. Mead isn't really my thing though. I am have no idea how available it is outside of Michigan.
