What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (2 Viewers)

Yeah 2+ hours in line, tap room has occupancy of 45 and only 48oz of beer each. He didn't really buy much in the way of newer or bigger or newer equipment from what I understand, just took what he had bought and been using at Une Anne/Hubbard's Cave. With his beer he's going to need something the size of what Half Acre is doing...about half of what Pipeworks is doing. He's already said his distro will shrink considerably and he sold out Mikerphone Check 1, 2 bottles in about 2 hours. That's nuts. I love his beer but hoped that him opening his own shop would make it easier to get his beer, not more difficult.
Early reports are that Mikerphone Check 1, 2 is off the charts great -- which will only add to the crazy. Might be a place to just grab a few drafts on weeknights for a while if bottle releases are going to be mobbed by hordes of neck beards.

Only open Thu-Sun though....think this is a take a half day off to go up there. And I've heard the same about Check...but all of his IPAs are great. I was hoping that him opening his own place would make the beer easier to get, it certainly seems like it will be the opposite, which sucks.

I live in Arlington Heights so I'm hoping things cool off there. Hopefully, things stay nuts for a few weeks and then lines happen only on release days. Who knows.

You're closer than me, down in Lombard. I hope so, but if he releases like he did when he was brewing at Une Anne I'd expect craziness for a long time. If I can take a half day on a Thu and get there at 1p then I'm good. I'm hoping that he'll be open a bit more than Thu-Sun as well.

Went to Hailstorm for the BA Vlad release at about 5 last night. Grabbed a few. Also had a grapefruit Dominatrix and coconut Vlad. Grapefruit was awesome at first but then it just became too much. Same with the mandarin Makatea. Too much fruit.

The coconut Vlad was outstanding though. They need to bottle that. I guess they had maple Vlad too and reviews were great as well. They will be bottling that one. I guess the next BA release is raspberry Vlad. That should be interesting.

Opened a vanilla Vlad last night. TONS of vanilla. I am finding most of their adjuncts are really strong as of late. At first it tasted just like a vanilla RIS. As it warmed, it got much better and more balanced. Glad I picked up a few of them.

The Floy Division I is very interesting in a good way. So many flavors it's odd, pineapple, coconut, grapefruit, with some earthiness? It's definitely worth seeking out for a try.

So....didn't check the beer but that Prairie was canned 8/20/16. Does not hold up well.
Yeah, I agree. Plus, I stayed away for awhile since it kind of tailed off in general compared to other locally available products. I ended up getting a growler last night at Hailstorm and split it with my brother. We both agreed it was much, much better than it has been in a long time.

Now, drinking some Hailstorm Alabama Hot Tub.

Made a run at lunch to put the finishing touches on a box to send to my brother in Boston and grabbed one of these for myself along with Raspberry That's My Jam (tart imperial wheat  :excited: ) from Bare Hands. I've had Floy Division II (meh), III, and IV (both good) but missed I. Also interested in checking out Bare Hands repertoire outside of their hop game which I'm totally sold on now. Will report back.

picked up a Green Flash Le Freak bomber from costco

pretty good I will be buying this one again

its a Belgium tripel mixed with an IPA

Raspberry That's My Jam -- yeah, as expected, another big winner from Bare Hands. Crisp, very dry, and tart without being overly sour, fresh raspberry exploding in the nose and on the palate without being sweet, which would be a big negative IMO. Absolutely crushable even at 9%. Wife loved it too -- gonna have to go buy a bunch more. At 9% it'll be a guaranteed panty-dropper which is always nice to have around in the beer fridge.

Also, 18th Street is releasing another new DIPA with honey tomorrow, this one dry-hopped with El Dorado. Gonna have to make a run there this week too.

Ok seems like there are quite a few beerguys from the Chicago area.  Does anyone want to give a recommendation for a place for three thristy out-of-towners to go kill Friday night?  I'm meeting two of my younger brothers there.  We are 35+ so nothing too crazy but pints will be consumed and it would be great to be able to watch the World Cup Qualifiers and talk as well.  We're staying at an AirBnB in Bridgeport area if it matters.  Thanks   :banned: :hifive:

Don't know a ton of stuff in the Bridgeport area, but can definitely help if you're willing to uber it to other parts of the city. You looking for a brewery, or a beer bar? Does food matter?

You can browse here if good beer is a top priority: https://www.beeradvocate.com/place/city/6/

Food would be a big plus but we could always find somewhere to eat before; definitely willing to use Uber and Metra to get to the right spot.  Appreciate any feedback you have GB!

I'm a big fan of the Half Acre (http://www.halfacrebeer.com/lincoln-tap-room-beer/) / The Bad Apple (http://www.badapplebar.com/) combo on North Lincoln -- literally right across the street from each other. Burgers / beer at The Bad Apple then cross the street to Half Acre for what is IMO the signature craft brewery in the city.

Local Option (http://localoptionbier.com/) is probably my favorite beer bar.

Julius! This batch is ridiculous. The last batch I had earlier this month was off...this one, canned 3/7/17, is as good as it gets. It makes me crave eggs and bacon to enjoy with it.

Floy Division I -- agree with @Hawks64, definitely not the typical FFF hop profile, but I'm digging it. Getting a hint of mint with the tropical fruit and citrus, and definitely a spicy / earthy thing going on. Will buy again.

Drinking a Peeptoad from Tilted Barn Brewery. They are a small local brewery in southern RI, on a farm where they grow all their hops. They just started to can and this American Pale Ale is their first. They are making the best beer in RI these days in my opinion. Hoppy, hazy and juicy.

Definitely going to be looking at the beer sites to see how crazy Mikerphone is today -- hoping that it will be more reasonable now that we're past the grand opening and it is a weekday as opposed to Saturday. Neck beards gotta work too, right?

For to go bottle sales today, we have the following:

The Get-Fresh Flow - Double IPA w/ Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin hops (limit 3)

Off The Record - Hoppy Witbier

Imperial Smells Like Bean Spirit - Imperial Breakfast Stout w/ Maple Syrup and Coffee (Limit 1) only 9 bottles left

Nature's Candy - Peach Berliner Weisse

Rockin' The Suburbs - Double IPA w/ El Dorado and Galaxy hops (limit 2)

As for Crowlers today, we will be doing the following:

Mikerphone Check 1, 2 - Double Dry-Hopped Double IPA w/ Citra hops (limit 2)

Untitled Art Collaboration - Imperial Stout w/ lactose, hazelnut and cocoa nibs

We hope to see you today! Doors open at 3 pm.

Pretty great list there, and now started with the crowlers. I'll definitely be heading out there at some point; how often will depend on whether it stays a complete $hitshow or not. I'm just not willing to deal with crazy, annoying crowds and hours in line for any beer these days, personally, given that we have so much easy access to similarly great beer all over the place.

I ran out yesterday. Line was ~50/60 deep at 2:30 and then he didn't open till 20/30 minutes late, I had left since I had a call I had to be on at 3:30 and would never had made it. Reading through some FB comments seems like the lines moved really slow. No idea how long it will take to die down but his beers have always sold out quickly, so I imagine it will continue like this until his capacity increases. If it ever does.

Picked up some Southern Tier Thick Mint last night. It's a thin mint flavored stout. Really heavy at 10%. Wasn't too bad, not super minty, which was nice. But it's a beer you only have 1 of at a time

Yesterday picked up some great NJ brews and a sixer of Lagunitas.  It's going to be a great weekend.

Kane Head High - growler

Carton Boat beer - cans

Magnify Vine Shine - cans

Lagunitas Sumpin' Sumpin'

Too nice a day not to bust out the grill and drink beer on the deck, so grabbed some Cimmerian Saretooth Berzerker, Grapefruit Sculpin, and Candy Crushable.

Every time I have Grapefruit Sulpin I always wonder why I don't drink it more often. Just an exceptional beer that, for me, gets forgotten because it's a "shelfie."

That's a good post. I never touch BP anymore. 2 years ago I was so pumped Sculpin was coming to Michigan. You ever had Shorts Hopstache?

I'm in Charlotte and lots of goods beer around here Heist, Wooden Robot, NoDa, Triple C, Birdsong and that's not mentioning Asheville.
Charlotte has a good beer scene. HDR used to be great, but I haven't had it in a couple of years...I hear Heist is really good, haven't tried any yet. I crave Birdsongs Jalapeño Pale Ale sometimes...still one of the best pepper beers I've ever had. Zero heat but tons of flavor.

Plus, you can make a quick drive across the border to Fort Mill SC and find Maine Beer Co beers.
